Wasn't the song written in 1978 originally? I feel like they're lying about the origins of the songs just to say that it's from Thriller and it's a valid inclusion.

please just confirm Hot street soon, and yeah.. would be nice if it comes along with Niteline.. it would be disappointing if there would be this The Wiz song and not the two aforementioned songs..

Pretty sure that was never confirmed. Given that it was recorded and mixed by two men MJ first met in the early 1980s, I think it’s safe to call it a Thriller outtake.
 
This was another song Michael originally wrote for the “Thriller” album. Although Michael also considered it for “Bad”, he never finished it but released it as a bonus track on The Ultimate Collection in 2004. It was also one of the songs featured in the Ubisoft game, “Michael Jackson: The Experience”. The mixer on the original 1982 demo was Bill Bottrell who would go on to co-produce tracks on Michael’s Dangerous album. True. It's still a good song, so it's not the worst thing ever. I still have a hard time thinking it's a Thriller era song, when for X years I've thought it was Off the Wall!!

The book Man In The Music says that it was written in 1978 and reworked throughout the Thriller and Bad era. The Estate is writing out as if the song is 100% from the Thriller era which doesn't seem to be the case. That's why I think they're changing up the story to make it look like a valid inclusion for the album.
 
So, four more songs to go. It's now very obvious that two of them will be most likely CGOTR & Carousel. The remaining songs will be either Hot Street & Nightline; or Starlight & Slapstick or INH & MTS.

The sound of the music & his vocals on „Sunset Driver“ scream OTW to me…
For me it‘ll probably always an OTW era song.
Already released also. That is underwhelming.
If CGOTR is now to be expected, the room for some rare gems is getting less.
 
So what options are left?

Ironic how the Estate, who are certain it's a Thriller outtake, use an Off The Wall version of Mike doing very 70's disco era moves.

It's almost like they thought it was from Off The Wall or something

Man in the Music also states that “Got the Hots” was co-written by Michael and Quincy (it wasn’t), that the vocals for “One More Chance” were recorded during the Invincible sessions (they weren’t), that “I Have This Dream” from the Invincible sessions is the same song as the Hurricane Katrina charity single (it’s not), and a horde of other incorrect pieces of info. Joe Vogel has some great sources, but both editions of his book are rife with errors.

I think it’s entirely possible that it was written in the 1970s, but again, given the people it was actually recorded with, it couldn’t have been recorded any earlier than 1981.
 
I always thought it sounded more like a thriller outtake than OTW to me. Musically is fits the thriller era greatly. You can call me crazy but the 2nd disc is shaping up to be one of his best discs ever but yeah I totally love this era from 1978-1984
I'm stoked we get all these songs on one disc. For me it will not be complete without hot street, niteline and his best song never to make an album carousel. With 3 never before heard songs/takes it is overall a wonderful release.
 
If the song is 100% from the Thriller era that means we don't have any outtakes from Off The Wall which is a bit sad to think about lol, we at least have a handful of outtakes from each era of Michael's life except for the one that's one of the most significant time of his career.
