Hot topic What unreleased demos and remixes do you think will be on Thriller 40 Disc 2?

Originally they did want to release a Victory Tour concert but Michael vetoed it. MJ personally hated the whole Victory tour , then the Don King comments about MJ apparently refusing to accept that he is an N word performer and always will be. The Brothers wanted the tour to continue but MJ announced at the final one during Shake Your Body and according to someone , one of the brothers called MJ a little prick . Basically it was a shame because MJ's live voice was incredible in that tour. Though he did not want to do it. They never performed a single song from the Victory album which spoke volumes I guess too. Though i Hope one day they do release it but maybe they not doing that out of respect for MJ as they moved on to a degree.
Yet, it is worth noting that reportedly Michael Jackson himself with a film crew later filmed few Victory concerts (after he vetoed that release that his brothers wanted).

There were also plans for a LaserDisc video release of the Victory Tour in the late '80s.

In any case, the Victory Tour does not deserve to get an official release.

The tour is saddled with kitsch moments, lots of pointless pantomime by his brothers, and an overabundance of visual effects/laser lights that bring no artistic value to the show.

Michael Jackson also looks like that he does not enjoy performing on stage.

He did not even have any desire (during that tour) to perform additional dance routines for his 'Billie Jean' very successful hit at that time.

Who said this and where did this really come from? The more I hear this the more I think it's bs because it doesn't make sense. Haven't the jacksons released re-relases of their albums, remixes of their songs and they were the one who uploaded the never before seen heartbreak hotel live from the Victory tour on their channel. They also asked/teased fans if they wanted to see a Victory tour concert get a full release back in 2017. Why wouldn't they want to release concerts?
I think the general dispute between the estate and the Jackson family is preventing a tour release from happening. All parties need to be in agreement, and that doesn’t seem likely. Hell, the recent reissue of the live album was the first time I’ve seen collaboration between them.

This is simply not true.

Now you are frenzy for real! :D

Of all of the ridiculous things you’ve said over the years, this has to top the list.
It only gets better, doesn’t it? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a member on a forum be so frequently hateful and overly critical towards anything and everything that the artist, to whom the forum is dedicated to, has done in their career. It’s insane!

I agree that Michael either looked vex or in pain for the majority of the ‘victory’ concerts. out of the many photos available of the tour over the years, there are very few of him smiling. especially in comparison to the ones that came before.

I agree that there were a few lulls in the show; the long ‘sword in the stone’/laser fight with the ‘kreton creatures’, the long transition between ‘working day and night’ and ‘beat it’ with the giant spider, jermaine’s solo, and the fake exit at the end of ‘lovely one’.

however, I do think that the brothers descending the staircase and removing their shades in unison, was an iconic moment.

I also think that michael’s freestyle at the end of ‘billie jean’ evolved as the tour progressed. with the debut of the circle glide, it was the highlight of the show in my opinion. much effort went into preparing for it. here’s michael practicing below

I think if any numbers from that tour are to be featured in ‘thriller 40’ in some fashion, it should be ‘billie jean’ and ‘human nature’. those are solo performances from the ‘thriller’ album that are sung in the original key. they’re most recognisable to the studio versions.

despite it being amateur footage, I think the New York show is the best. it has the smoothness and balance between the vocals and dancing. michael even stops the show mid song to call out someone for not dancing. I wouldn’t mind at all if this was professionally released.

it’s worth remembering that Jackie Jackson works for the estate. Tito, marlon, and even late father joe supported them. even mother Katherine is now on board with the upcoming biopic. I’m sure they could all work something out if need be.

it’s true that the ‘victory’ tour would have been much bigger if it was worldwide, or at least televised, however it’s crucial in showing the mass hysteria surrounding michael at the time. the costumes were spectacular. all of the trademarks that are associated with michael were present. real peak ‘Michael mania’, despite the controversies..

Yeah the New York show looks awesome, absolutely stunning vocals!
I never liked all the theatrical stuff either I would cut all of it lol but I do love all the lights and laser stuff!
Purely in terms of dancing I like this era the most, billie jean on the Victory for me cannot be topped.

I doubt that considering There Must Be More To Life Than This was reworked and released just a few years ago.
They wanted to release the original demo. The Estate said no and they had to settle for the shitty William Orbit mix cause that's what the Estate approved.

I think they actually created their own version of the track that they wanted to use. Brian May talks about it, and the difficulty working with The Estate in this video

Does make sense to be their version since it was a Queen compilation album. Thanks for the video!

edit: Just finished the video. Branca once more gatekeeping stuff. What's the point anyway?

I didn't say he was wrong and I do know the original The Essential Michael Jackson has fake edits. I just simply pointed out there is a real single mix on streaming platforms, so there is chance that the 7" remix on digital bonus can be a authenic mix.
I feel like you're being kind of defensive here even though i am agreeing with you haha

Honestly, I think 'There Must Be More to Life Than This' would have sounded better with a slightly deeper register. While it's not a bad vocal, MJ had a lot more in his vocal repertoire to bring to the table while being on a song with a vocalist like Freddie Mercury. They're vocals ran together really well for 'State of Shock'...

I always thought the William Orbit remix was fanmade, never knew it was actually stitched together using the original reels, thanks for sharing that video!

It's on the "Queen Forever" compilation released in 2014.

i think now is the time to invest in whatever michael jackson related companies there is lads, things are looking to be set to blow up for mj in a very good way with the movie, album and now doccumentary on the way.

Never knew that was actually released, thought it was some bootleg, I always was skeptical because of how the MJ vocals sounded on that, never gave it thought it was a rough demo recording and the quality wouldnt be the best, damn i feel like an idiot for that lol.

It sounds fan made, definitely, lol. That's why I'm annoyed the MJ Estate made Queen release that instead of their own version. Don't think it's much to do with the quality of the recordings. It's just horribly produced and mixed. Check out the leaked Gold Mix on youtube, even though it's unfinished it's much better imo.

You have to remember they recorded the MJ one in MJ's home studio and not some actual professional studio, i assume the intention was to get into an actual studio and go back and record a proper take there, hence the quality isn't of standard on this rough take.

Tragic the quality of the Gold Mix is horrendous, i cant really give my opinion on it due to its poor quality.

Whilst that may be true, the mixing on literally everything on that remix is awful, so MJ's vocals could have sounded much better, and they do on the gold mix. On the William Orbit mix he sounds underwater.

There must be more to life than this is my vote for worst recording Michael ever made. Freddie dominates the song. There didn’t seem to be any chemistry between them.

Gold mix is sooooo much better

I'm positive I have a CD rip of there must be more to life than this as a duet, I'll check my PC later on.
