Hot topic What unreleased demos and remixes do you think will be on Thriller 40 Disc 2?

If The Estate and Sony wanted to "re-launch" Thriller again, to new generations and sort of bring it up again, they should for example, release a full music video of The Girl Is Mine with MJ and Paul in the studio singing. And that's just one idea for one song. Use unreleased footage. What's the point of it just laying around?
Wow that would be fantastic, now I have to get it out of my head again cause it won't happen.

I don’t agree that ‘the girl is mine’ is the weakest song on ‘thriller’ at all. I wish people wouldn’t state opinions as facts.

I wouldnt call that an opinion its a fact
according to whom? what constitutes as ‘weak’?
it was the song chosen to launch the ‘thriller’ campaign, and it performed well on the charts..

loads of people think its bad

loads of people think its bad
loads of people think it’s good - hence its success. that’s what an opinion is.

the phrase ‘I’m a lover not a fighter’ is used to this day in popular media/culture. the song was even performed on the ‘x factor’ by a fifteen year old. proof of the generational reach.

most recently the ‘mj one’ cast used it to pay tribute last month.
it was also the most popular remix on ‘thriller 25’.

singers brandy and Monica used the same concept for their own hit duet ‘the boy is mine’ back in the nineties. they weren’t the only ones either.. the song, just like ‘thriller’ in general, has an enduring legacy

it was lighthearted fun. some liked it. some didn’t.. it’s just like me declaring that ‘state of shock’ was michael’s weakest song. opinions.. we all have them. doesn’t make them facts.

^ so was "Nightline"

interesting. I always thought the pointer sisters covered this for some reason..

did you know that siedah garrett used ‘got the hots’? she changed the lyrics and title.

I honestly prefer michael’s original arrangements and instrumental. stark difference between early and late eighties pop/r&b. the former had more groove and warmth. the latter was stiff and mechanical.

The girl is line is only disliked because it is a Paul McCartney duet. I don’t know if that makes sense but this is how I feel it is.
I personally love it, I think it is a wonderful arrangement, very catchy and a nice sing along song. I especially love the string arrangements. Love the laid back fun vibe of it all.

Ha that boy’s x factor performance was cute. You could see the girls in the audience swooning over his looks and then later when he sang lyrics of the girl is mine some of them seemed to melt.
I got nervous watching him though, he’s got a good tone but it wasn’t a very good performance imo

Confirm. The Solo Demo is amazing!

Makes you wonder if all these artists that used these songs got to hear MJ's version before they went and recorded it.

siedah must have heard the original ‘got the hots’ - due to her connection with Quincy.

is anybody aware that ‘billie Jean’ responded with her own record in 1983? of course she isn’t the real one, but she’s singing from her perspective. I wonder what Michael thought of this?

I’ve heard many claim that ‘say say say’ was the better duet. most aren’t even aware of ‘the man’.

I see ‘the girl is mine’ as the sequel to ‘girlfriend’, with the two rivals meeting each other for the first time. I would have loved to have seen Michael perform this with donny osmond.

Both songs were written by Rod Temperton.

Does anybody know something about this song and a reaction from MJ? For me it has Billie Jean sound all over :D

I hope for Starlight

If they start with Behind The Mask and Starlight, that's a really impressive and good start.

Until T40 and the discussion of the tracks recently I'd never fully realised just how many leaks we have from Thriller. It's got to be one of the most right?

This and Dangerous. After all the second discs of the Special Editions leaked.

Would be so cool. Michael always so happy in the studio singing, it would bring a lot of positivity and "new" fans as everyone seems to want.

It's all about creativity. Not some random montage music video or something unrelated to MJ. They need real MJ footage to succeed for videos, not fan/other people stuff

So many opportunities. Release Thriller in 4K like the people want. Try imitate the launch of Thriller in the 80s but with new stuff
This makes me almost bust a vessel in my brain....I can't for the life of me wonder why they just sit on things.... like aaaaaaggggghhhhhhh
