I said for a while that 4K videos are easily the best thing they can do, and after watching last night I was proven right. It’s absolutely insane & future proofs MJs art for future generationsAfter seeing Thriller ik 4K I can not complain about T40.
We get New songs - i am very happy about disc 2 (and 3 even though I would love TGIM solo demo)
BUT 4K videos are what really has talen This release to the next level for me. Thriller was shokingly beautiful and great looking. Great convertion. Looks natural and great.
It really makes no difference if the leaks are just days away from the release, the general audience wouldn't even be aware of it.
YANA in 4K?My thing is this....what about bad, dangerous, history & yrmw shorts in 4k....like they need to come on with it! I need visions in true 4k. I can imagine what the other shorts will look like!
Man, we’ve had “Thriller” and “Beat It” in 4K for a full day and already people are demanding something else lmfao. Let’s just be happy with this for a while, yeah?My thing is this....what about bad, dangerous, history & yrmw shorts in 4k....like they need to come on with it! I need visions in true 4k. 1st of all...I've been demanding visions in 4k for years! Not just today. & the simple fact it took so long to do this. But what I was meaning was that if thriller & beat it look like this...It excites me to know what the others will look like in that quality. Don't come like that...do you not understand how this makes ppl feel to see 2 videos in 4k & wonder what the other 20something would look like. It's not a demand or complaint. It's a wish at this point!Man, we’ve had “Thriller” and “Beat It” in 4K for a full day and already people are demanding something else lmfao. Let’s just be happy with this for a while, yeah?
Honestly, if they just upscaled the shots that have effects in them and have everything else be the original masters, I would be fine with that.I read a post on Twitter that basically breaks down why restoring MJ’s short films poses a unique challenge compared to other artists.
Long story short: if we’re operating on the assumption that MJ’s short films were edited on tape, remastering to 4K would mean locating the original film negatives, re-scanning them, restoring them, re-editing them, and recreating any visual effects from scratch. This could be expedited if they have the original edit decision lists (which detail what shots/takes were used and in what order) and the original CGI source files, but that’s a shot in the dark and, without them, bringing most of his videos to 4K would be a remarkably lengthy and costly process. That’s not even taking into consideration that the Off the Wall videos were shot on tape and can’t be properly restored, or that “Billie Jean” can only go up to 2K since it was shot on 16mm film.
Not to say that it shouldn’t be done, but there’s a fair reason to see why it probably won’t be, at least not in the immediate future.

Tape (1/2" videotape, I believe). What was the Off The Wall videos shot on again?
Sometimes they look okay, but an actual film transfer (and restoration) always looks betterman the videos look awesome
hopefully this is the last time we see those shit AI "enhanced" versions
Lol some of them were out right dog shit but some actually tried and did the best they could with what they had. For instance this guy, his work is actually VERY impressive for not having access to anything needed to properly enhance these.man the videos look awesome

I saw it on Apple MusicWhere are you seeing these videos in 4K?

It's not hard, it just won't be HD.DC Video
DC Video specializes in the transfer and reformatting and digitization of 2 inch Quadruplex, 1/2 inch EIAJ, 3/4 inch Umatic and other legacy videotape formats.www.dcvideo.com
This service specializes in restoring older fashioned tapes, is it really as hard to manage as believed?
There's really no reason for it not to be done other than them not wanting to spend the time and money, which is not an excuse in my opinion. They make enough money and let's face it they spend most of the time not doing anything.I read a post on Twitter that basically breaks down why restoring MJ’s short films poses a unique challenge compared to other artists.
