Michael Jackson's Kids Will Record 'We Are the World'

Following their appearance at the Grammy Awards, sources tell me Michael Jackson's two oldest children -- Prince Michael and Paris -- want to be included in Monday's re-recording of 'We Are The World,' the proceeds of which will benefit Haiti. "Prince Michael and Paris know that helping others was as important to their daddy as music. That is why they really want to be part of the re-recording of this extraordinary song," a friend of Michael's tells me.

It's still unclear if their voices will be blended in with the chorus of celebrities or if they will make get to sing a solo line or two I, for one, can't think of any singer alive that would be more powerful than Prince Michael or little Paris singing the lyrics their daddy wrote 25 years ago.

Prince Jackson took to the stage Sunday night at the Grammys and spoke in public for the first time, stunning the audience with an emotional speech about his late father. In accepting Michael's posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award, the reclusive 12 year-old choked up while thanking fans for their support since his dad's death. "Our father loved you so much because you were always there for him," he said in a soft-spoken voice. He also touted the goodness of his beloved dad: "Through all his songs, his message was simple: Love."

The brief speech quickly became the most sincere and poignant moment of the evening, with every member of the audience standing and listening in awe as the shy Prince spoke.

Paris also spoke but very briefly, saying, "We love you daddy." She of course made a touching speech at Michael's memorial service, which was held under the very same roof as the Grammys, Staples Center.

Read the whole speech below:

Prince: First of all, we'd like to thank God for watching over us over these past seven months, and our grandma and grandpa for their love and support. We would also like to thank the fans. Our father loved you so much because you were always there for him. Our father was always concerned about the planet and humanity. Through all his hard work and dedication, he has helped many charities and donated to all of them. Through all his songs, his message was simple: Love. We will continue to spread his message and help the world. Thank you. We love you daddy.

Paris: Daddy was supposed to be here. Daddy was going to perform this year, but he couldn't perform last year. Thank you, we love you daddy.

That would be fantastic! awesome!!!

they are Michael's legacy (even though i doubt they will be there)

Quincy is two faced...

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Earlier on the TMZ thing they asked if any of the Jacksons were there and the woman said "3T is here". The guy from TMZ had no clue who she was talking about LOL

thank you for the info :)

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Someone also said earlier on the TMZ thingy that Randy Jackson just arrived and then said he was a jerk because he ignored them. But I don't know if it was Randy as in Michaels brother or the AI one LOL

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

LOL@ them going in another door!

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Hmm, it's hard for me to personally see this "We Are the World" remake as anything other than a huge publicity stunt to further these artists' careers at MJ's expense.

The gesture of artists coming together and creating a song for Haiti Relief is an honorable one, but what about writing their own song? If everyone is so adamant about "We Are the World," why not just re-release the original to raise money for Haiti?

The only reason they chose that song is because Michael Jackson just died last year. Do you think if he were living they would even cover this song, or ask him to be part of it?

I doubt it. It makes me so incredibly furious. If they want to show MJ any respect at all they will let this "bandwagon" phenomenon ride out and stop using his material as an advertising ploy to the masses.

I'm sure there are going to be plenty of people who disagree with my post and that's fine. But I had to type this out or my head was going to explode.

Ahhhhhhh I'm sooooo angryyyyyyyy

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Keep an open mind. It is the 25th anniversary and it is going for a great cause. Rereleasing the original wouldn't get the sales from the younger generation. So they are going for the people that are popular now.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

^^^^

I have a simple answer for that. The new generation do not know most of the people on the original version and plus it is the 25th anniversary. You want these kind of charity songs to sell alot (to help the charities) and the way to that is to include the most popular artists of that time. You put Miley Cyrus in it then the kids buy it, you put Lady Gaga in it the teens buy it.

Yes the original song is perfect but it would not sell alot in today's time.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Thats exactly what I was trying to say Ivy :)

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I don't see anything on TMZ...where can I watch the video?

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Im not against this, i just wanted MJ vocals there (they were very few btw), or the kids vocals there, one of the two... but i guess all has changed now.

This was all a Michael Jackson idea, Jones is such a two faced man... i cannot believe it, i just cannot believe it...

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I do not think the kids are going to sing on this

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

is it on or what exactly??

I too heard that they would keep the MJ's vocals. I guess we'll wait and see.

An interview one Et online has Quincy saying that they will have Michael incorporated into it some way.

Yea I heard on Entertainment I mean Exaggeration Tonight that they were going to take part in it some way. Don't even ask why I was watching that dumb ass show. Let's just say I was extremely bored and my tv happened to be on that channel? yea...They talked about the kids, I ended up yelling at the T.V. because that show is just ridiculous.

But anyways, supposedly there is going to be a "special" or w.e about the re-recording of We Are The World tomorrow on that show. -_-

yep...still wish they would have just re-released the old version. They can't replace voices on the old version, people such as Ray Charles, Michael, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder and many more. Imo you just can't replace those great artists with these....."artists" today. Just

w.e. I guess I should stop complaining about it now....at least it's for a good cause? :)

I hope this is true, it would change my vision of Quincy.

yeah, we will have to wait.

Michael is the song even though some may try to make it desappear... Michael IS the image of We Are the World, he was the man behind it all, he was a TRUE humanitarian

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I wonder how the original artists feel about being "replaced" by these newbies like Miley and Kanye West?

*facepalm*

Who knew mediocrity could get you so far in life?

What are they saying Tink?

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

How Long did the original take to come out after it was recorded? I can imagine that with 100 participants this time around, the wait will be much longer.

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

There guna sing Mikes bit?! Not gettin excited til i hear but it will be good anyways...

They been seen at the studio at all?

Yes the original song is perfect but it would not sell alot in today's time.

of course the original would sell in today's time. just like the audience was in the grip of MJ's children, last night. 'This Is It' did really well at the box office in a short run. the 50 o2 concerts sold out in less than 4 hours

people still don't necessarily buy stuff if they think it sucks. people today, do a lot of illegal downloading for free, when they listen to 'today's artists'. so, having those 'artists of today' doesn't guarantee sales. the x factor that makes a song sell, has nothing to do with whether or not it's 'artist of today'..it either has to be good, or it won't sell. there was an x factor in the original.
if the remake isn't any good, it won't matter who sings it. if it doesn't have an x factor, it won't sell. or it will sell very very little, due to overkill media push. but that's not much help if it sells very very little.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

It would be sacrilegious for them NOT to incorporate his vocals into the new version in some way. As much as I loved the song, I remember it was always Michael's part I looked forward to the most. Seriously, they couldn't be that callous to remove the voice of the man who not only co-wrote the song but who has been the most passionate about carrying out the very lyrics of it.

Interesting about the kids' possible participation. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... If true, I hope the producers find a way to still keep Michael's vocals. Plus, putting the kids in the chorus instead of giving them solo parts kinda allows them to remain "low key" and doesn't come across as exploitative to the max. I do remember at the memorial Paris was singing the hell outta this song onstage. Couldn't hear her voice but she was clearly into it...knew all the words and everything. Made me smile while I was crying. Too precious!

Regardless of the kids' participation, I hope Michael stays in the song and it does for Haiti what it originally did for Africa.

I think they just want to make the song appeal to today's audience which, unfortunately, is being breastfed with mediocrity. Having said that, if you look at some of the people in the original chorus of the song from the 80's not all of them were exactly tearing up the radio airwaves. :fear:

Hmmm.... Where did he get that info from?

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

that will be interesting.

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

Would be better if they sang the part with Michael's voice too.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I went to the ET website and found a short video of Kevin Frazier talking to Quincy Jones. All I gotta say is tht Quincy is really showing that he is 80 yrs old. He's mumbling and stuff. Kevin asked something about Michael and the tribute at the Grammy's and WATW, and Quincy said 'We got that covered'. So I don't understand what he meant. To those who watched ET on TV, did Quincy specifically say that Michael is going to be in the re-make?

Well, I always thought this was a bad idea and it's obviously not going to do as well as the first. But, just think about it. . . . all these artists are going to be singing Michael's lyrics. he wrote this song (with an assist from Lionel). So in a way, that is like a tribute to him. I will be happy to know if Prince, Paris and Blanket will be part of it as well as 3T. Also, Michael sang two solo parts in the song as well as vocals during the chorus, so it would be nice if they kept something in there that sounds like Michael.

I just don't trust Quincy at all!

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

I rather they keep Mike's voice and the children can sing along with the chorus (if this is even true.)

Honestly, I don't want people to start ragging on the kids' voices (they ain't going to be clones of their Dad's talent) but then you never know they probably can sing.
