We Are The World 25 for Haiti / Official video now in first post.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Oh no!! Please not without Michael.
It's going to take away from the original meaning of the song & how it helped out. I'm all for helping Haiti, but they can make another song with other artists. :(

I agree. I think it's great they are doing this for Haiti and I hope they can raise a lot of money, but I wish they'd choose another song or record a new song altogether. "We Are The World" was something that was a once in a lifetime thing. Besides, it just wont be the same without Michael and the many others that made the song what it is.

I agree, I wish that they would just pick a different song to record. I mean it won't be the same without a lot of the people that did the original song. imo they should just re-release the original song and not re-record it with other people.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Well, I don't see it that bad, I'm lookin' forward to it! :)
It'd be great if they just made another completely new song, as well but this is great, too! :)

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Even if they keep Michael's voice, it will be an insult to everyone else who gets their parts erased.

Well everyone else didn't write the song. Michael wrote the majority of it and was involved heavily in the arrangement of the song. You can see video of him on youtube and on "We Are The World" dvd helping other singers get their parts down. He was a huge part of the song and should be included. Without MJ, there wouldn't have even been a "We Are The World", at least not how we know it.

I don't think they should re-do the song at all, but if they are going to do it, it's only fair that MJ's vocals are included. If anyone's vocals deserves to be included in that song, it's MJ's since he was such an integral part of that song.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

If Michael's not there im sorry, but i will help in other ways... as i have been doing, dont expect me to buy it,

However i cannot believe this backstabbing to Michael made by Quincy Jones... he is a, i just cant believe it... what a let down... again, ok, i will let it be... but dont count on me on this one, i will help in other MILLION ways.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

in truth, i don't think Sony is charitable. it just occurred to me, that, if MIchael were here, he'd get the same treatment that he got for 911, and Katrina. Sony doesn't want to pay for a new master, that would go with a new song. and Sony wouldn't have distributed whatever Michael would have come up with. when 'What More Can I Give was showed on tv, i was ready to buy it, but Sony refused to distribute it. and, Sony scrapped, whatever MJ was working on, for Katrina.

so, this is about face time, trying to give the impression that Sony cares about MJ, all of a sudden, in the face of the fans, (because it would really look bad, otherwise, since MJ died..) and holding onto their own money. that's the ugly truth. that's what they consider more important than helping those in need.

Sony was envious of MJ being a sure bet to be successful with charity, and they were envious of his fame, while he was here. so..they still are. never mind the fact that they were his label, and still are.

its a disgrace really, you would think they would be happy to have someone as huge as michael on their label, not jealous of him, if they had worked closer with him and not been so up there own A*** they could have made more money from him, fools. Anyway back on topic, its not gonna be the same without michael, i dunno if ill bother buying, ive already given £5 to haiti

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Hey hun...well Lionel Did Co-write We are the world. Him and Mike worked on the lyrics and melody. Lionel had part of the melody down(well small part of it) then they worked on it together...so it is fair to say he co-wrote it! :)

From my understanding Mike wrote the song , took it to Quincy Jones. Quincy told him to have Lionel Help him with some of the words. Here is the MJ's demo:

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

The estate should just release "what more can I give". It would be perfect.

Even just as an itunes single.

Or even still, just finish the katrina single.

Yup...and Letoya said (during the time of it's release, so she was muc more credible) that she witnessed the creative/writting process of that song and said MJ wrote 99% of it and that Lionel didn't really contribute much accept some melody ideas and word changing.

yep. humility is a powerful thing. MJ had plenty of it. but he really dominated all his collaborations. but the collaborators tended to take most or all of the credit, no matter how trustworthy they convinced us to be in them. in the end, with MJ's humility, we find out the truth. besides..the magic was only there when he was there.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

How about they just release "What More Can I Give" since it was a charity song made on the same purpose, never released.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

We are the World did its legendary job for Africa...already cemented into history..
why o why recycle it??? Quincy is a producer who has access to lots of songwriters....write a new song...Haiti deserved it...

its like what Elton John did with the song he originally wrote for Marilyn Monroe then used the same song with dif words for Lady Di............i thought it was "trifiling"...you are a song writer and Diana is a good friends....why didn't you jus write her a special song???

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

i feel they should just re release the old version it not gonnA the same with out michael imo!! i mean its for a good cause but just use the old version!!!!!!!!!!! or release what more can i give!!!!

WOW! never really thought about it!
yeah, why not actually? It's a shame what had been done to that song..

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

did you know that the original 'we are the world' single and video are NOW available on itunes? i know what i am downloading. it seems like sony could direct proceeds of that download to Haiti, if they wanted to.

I agree! WATW, is not the same without Michael. If they release it, then his vocals should be included, he wrote it after all, and this was only possible because he was the big draw. or If they are so concerned why not have somebody record something else, or better yet release What More can I give- if they want to use Michael to help raise funds.

These ppl are using Michael to enhance their images. They wouldn't help with Katrina when Michael wanted to do something because they didn't want to be associated with him after the trial, now they are so willing to do something that Michael was involved in. They don't genuinely care as evidenced with the Katrina project.

I posted this in another site, but this only shows what a huge hole Michael left when it comes to charity work, and how genuinely giving he was!

And no I do not like Quincy Jones - he seems to always take credit for this song, when in truth Michael wrote this song, with Ritchie only contributing a few lyrics. The way he slammed Michael, I just don't care for him at all!

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Just heard Kanye is guna be on it. If he uses autotune on We Are The World I will burn all his albums! Will be interestin with what they come up with though.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Is it confirmed that MJ isn't going to be in the newer version?

Didn't Rodger say MJ rerecorded WATW for TII?

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

Whoops..here's the latest:

‘We Are the World 25′: Elton, Wycef, Celine, Gladys, ArethaBy: Roger Friedman // Thursday January 28, 2010

“We Are the World 25″ is a ‘go’ for Monday, February 1st at the Nokia Theater.

After checking with lots of stars, and accepting calls from “just about everyone,” Quincy Jones and AEG Live’s Randy Phillips are putting the finishing touches on the big recording session.

Among the names I’ve heard so far: Elton John, Celine Dion, Wyclef Jean, Gladys Knight, and possibly Aretha Franklin will join a huge number of younger stars.

Some of the stars from Quincy Jones’s upcoming album, “Soul Bossa Nostra,” may join in as well. They would include Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Akon, Bebe Winans, Usher, Robin Thicke, LL Cool J, and Tevin Campbell.

As I told you yesterday, Paul Haggis will film the proceedings. What’s still being finalized is where all the money will go; that should be announced by Friday. When the original “We Are the World” was recorded in 1985, the money was funneled through its own organization. This time, however, raised funds will be sent through an established foundation.

Originally there was a sketchy plan to re-record “We Are the World.” But when the Haiti earthquake occurred, Quincy Jones realized there was a larger purpose for the reunion.

And this is really Quincy Jones’s week. The famed and legendary producer/composer has just designed a watch named the Quincy for Audemars Piguet. It’s really a beauty, too. You can see it at http://www.quincyjones.com/. Maybe Q will design a Swatch next!

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

don't mean to burst the bubble but Friedman isn't allowed on here. yeah, i know it sounds good, but it's a rumour, and last time i checked, Friedman wasn't allowed on here, because of how he used to butcher MJ in the press.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

I hope they will leave Michael's vocals in the song!

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

isnt it that this must have the permission of michael's estate? because he wrote it he must have kinda copyrights. so, they can demand michael is there..? i think it cant be 'too modern' either.

If someone does a remake, they don't have to use the original performer's music or voice. If they only use the lyrics and record a techno style, hip hop, or heavy metal arrangement, they can do that. If they use the music and change the lyrics (like Weird Al), they can do that. The only permission they have to get is from the publishers and apparently they have done that already.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

^^^ yeah friedman is NOT allowed to be posted.

That said....

The fact that Elton is getting on board this song is very very emotional for me. Since the early 90's I've wanted to see them sing together. Elton singing on an MJ written song is now the closest I'll ever get to seeing that happen. When I hear it I think it's going to about kill me, yet be wonderful at the same time :(

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

I just heard some Quincy (the person) - not related in MJ .. but the info was really not flattering
