Unpopular opinions about MJ’s music?

that's probably because michael had a limit how far he would go. he had to remember he had younger fans too. he was a gentleman. remember the time is one of my favorite mj songs.

But "In the Closet" with Naomi was pretty passionate. And the chemistry is very good there.

he probably liked her more then iman and pretty sure he did from reading stories between them man she was even with him at the dinner with michael jackson contest in the 90's

Dangerous tour was lazy to begin with if you ask me. The first leg was essentially the Bad tour with a few new songs thrown in. Janet commented at the time at how similar it was to the Bad tour.

I don't understand why he performed so few songs from Dangerous. That never made sense to me and don't give that "It wouldn't have worked" excuse.

I agree on One More Chance - that's not really MJ's finest moment vocally.

BUT - I really think Whatever Happens is a great song, and I like the vocal-style for the song. The western-theme, Santana on guitar, I think it all melts great together. WH should have been released as a single - and imagine a great musicvideo it could have gotten.

I really like MJ's voice on Whatever Happens. It's very warm sounding to me and I think it fits the song. Possibly a bit ropey towards the end but yeah.

Likewise, the first leg of the Bad Tour largely bore the traces of Victory.

Hate to jump in out of nowhere, but my unpopular opinion is that I think the Cascio tracks are actually good songs and it's a shame that the Cascios tried to pass them off as real and not as tribute songs. I think a Side Two of Michael with tribute songs from friends, colleagues, proteges, and relatives would've been nice. "Monster" or "Breaking News" (albeit a bit better produced) would've fit right in amongst tributes from Janet, 3T, will.i.am, or Darkchild.

Yeah, but that's understandable. The album came out on August 31st and the tour started on September 12th. The audience would not have really been familiar with the new songs.

However, the Dangerous Tour should have contained more songs from the album. But I feel like by that time, Michael had too many classic songs. When you think about it...he didn't even perform DSTYGE or Rock With You on that tour which are two of his most iconic songs.

i agree. michael had too many songs that was hits. in my opinion he should did all the new songs during the dangerous and history tours.

hahahaha as someone who is a fan of the bad and thriller era i'm okay if others doesn't like those eras. i don't like dangerous or history era. i like michael in general but bad and thriller era are my favorite eras.

though i don't see anyone not liking thriller era though.... that was the beginning of his peak.

I feel this is where Michael went wrong with his set lists. He prioritised classic songs over newer songs too much. Your tour is called the Dangerous Tour. You are supposed to be promoting songs from the Dangerous album, not your classical songs that came out years ago. To perform a grand total of 5 songs from a 14 track album is criminal, in my opinion. I understand performing songs like Billie Jean, Thriller all the time but other classical songs like WBSS, Beat It etc would have been dropped in favour of songs from the Dangerous album.

I just did my own version of the Dangerous tour setlist, and I think I did a pretty good balance of the hits and songs from the Dangerous album. I couldn't decide between WBSS and APOM, so I figured I'd just be put them together as a medley. And I did a shorter version of WDAN, so an extra song could fit into the setlist.

1. Jam (With aspects of Can't Let Her Get Away)
2. Wanna Be Startin Somethin' / Another Part Of Me (Medley)
3. Human Nature
4. Smooth Criminal
5. Who Is It
6. Jackson 5 Medley
7. Thriller
8. Billie Jean
9. Working Day And Night (Shorter version)
10. Beat It
11. Will You Be There (Maybe replaced with Remember The Time at some shows)
12. Give Into Me
13. The Way You Make Me Feel
14. Dangerous
15. Black Or White
16. Heal The World
17. Keep The Faith
18. Man In The Mirror

i can't stand she's out of life. yeah the fangirls but i honestly dislike this song and can see why others do too. i'm a female and i dislike she out of my like. maybe because i see michael as a human not someone who just wanna though myself at. i don't see michael that way so maybe that's why i dislike it. to be real i don't like his love songs very much. i like some but not all. this make me very different from alot females in the fan community. that's probably why i don't get along with much.

Perhaps he was afraid to overload the concert. To avoid too many rock songs or ballads. Some songs within the same concert might seem too similar.

For example, Michael didn't sing Give In To Me in Dangerous & HIStory tours because he already had Black or White ? Beat It. Didn't sing Keep the Faith in DTW because there were already Man In The Mirror and Will You Be There.

Also some songs might not have had an effect on stage (for example Liberian Girl and Leave Me Alone, where there were many overlays of Michael's vocal tracks).

Beat It is in the same tier as Billie Jean and Thriller. Why can those two be kept but Beat It removed?

you know i never thought about that.

i love beat it. but if michael had choose another rock song i say give in to me because it's underrated.

Removing Beat It from the second leg DTW was more a technical necessity than a sincere creative decision.

Michael Jackson should have performed ‘Blood On The Dance Floor’ (in the HIStory Tour) with a female partner, as he did in the music video of that song.

The way he performed it on stage alone (during that tour) looks incomplete, with the singer most of the song's time just walking embarrassingly on stage.

About the set list of the Dangerous Tour, Jennifer Batten sheds more light on why the set list of that tour had so few new songs from the ‘Dangerous’ album.

She revealed that the singer did not have enough time to rehearse new songs for that tour due to his many important business meetings at that time, and he was also becoming physically tired because of those meetings.

As a result of that, much of the set list of the Dangerous Tour had to simply be carried over from the BAD Tour:

“…I noticed that he was busier and I remember that one time he came to rehearsals and just [he] apologized for not having been there the last few days. He said ‘I was just showered with meetings’ and he just repeated it with emotion, ‘meeting after meeting after meeting’…” (Jennifer Batten)

That is not necessarily true, because he did not include ‘Give In To Me’ for the 1993 leg of the Dangerous Tour although he dropped ‘Beat It’ from those concerts.

He dropped both WDAN and Beat It for a reason (most likely because they require a lot of energy, which Michael didn't have at that point), so of course he isn't going to add another rock song to the set list.

But ‘Give In To Me’ (although a rock song) would not have required from him a lot of energy for on stage performance.

Actually, it is a rock song that would have required from him minimal dancing and energy.

Look at the ‘Give In To Me’ music video: all that he does is to execute few, very easy dance moves while singing his lines.

Yeah...but they probably hadn't even rehearsed Give In To Me.

Michael's decision to drop WDAN and Beat It from the set list was pretty much a last minute decision (he rehearsed them both on August 16th 1993) and I think it was too late for them to think about what Give In To Me should look like on stage at that point.

Speed Demon had the same fate. It was rehearsed by the band. When performed to Mike, he said he liked its groove but he can't perform this on the show as he had no choreography.

When you say "the singer" like that, you sound like a reporter :rollin:

He could have had a live dance off with Spike The Rabbit
