How do scientists come up with such complicated names! How do you pronounce them!!
Equus is Latin for ‘horse.’ The specific epithet is actually Dutch; it’s the name they use for the plains zebra in South Africa. It’s origin, once again, apparently is onomatopoeia!

All scientific names must be Latinized. There are many rules governing the naming process (see ICZN), but the Latinisation and Principle of Priority are the primary ones.
 
Actually, to be a bit more optimistic, there was ONE VERY GOOD thing for me in 2023 - and some dodged bullets lol.

I try to stay positive - and naive about a lot of things. This song (lyrics) capture what I try to do, and I think that Michael would have loved the lyrics:

It's important to me too. Because when I stop hoping, it takes away the power to act. I kind of lose myself. I allow myself to be sad and discouraged for a strictly limited time)))) and then I try to make efforts to smile and believe in the best. It saved me in hard times.
