@Fuzball @bluemoon7 @zinniabooklover Was life more care free and easier without the internet and the distractions of today's world?
Every era has its challenges. Life is full of pros and cons. So it's a tricky question to answer. I wouldn't say the 80's were carefree.

Interesting question, though. Quite profound. 🤔

Michael is like a sibling to me in many ways. I mean, not like his actual siblings. No thank you!

Just a warm, lovely, beautiful thing, iyswim.

That is beautiful.

I have always felt a deep connection to him, and for the longest time thought (and was told) it was silly to feel connected to someone I don´t even know let alone a pop star.

Today, actually, I feel the connection even more. He was just an amazing human being. I also admire his bravery and courage. He was shamed so much and yet had so much dignity and strength. That really gave myself strength in dealing with some tough things in my life.

I don't curse though my friends do, I don't
I am quite sweary, ngl. Not Courtney Love level, perhaps, but I do swear quite freely. Sometimes in anger, sometimes for sarcasm. But never, ever the 'b' word or 'c' word. And I do try to rein it in depending on who I'm talking to. If I'm around church Christians I'll generally knock it on the head. They don't tend to cope well with too much swearing, ime. And I use a lot of substitutes as a way of toning it down a bit.

Also how did y'all survive without the internet?? I can't imagine living with out the web

Radio, library, newspaper, tv, teletext, letters, analogue gossip lol, teen and pop magazines, ... :D

EDIT: phone (landline), cassette tapes, records, advertisements, ...

I want to complete the list 😁 @zinniabooklover @wendijane please help!

It's just you didn't have the internet and you didn't have have to worry if you have this amount of likes on a post you on social media and it seemed that you could go outside and not worry to much that you might get kidnaped or someone might be stealing your stuff right at this moment..

(I'm gonna make @wendijane mad) I just won in my jeans and Grand Canyon shirt!
Yes, it was! I still remember hearing IJCSLY on the radio for the first time (in 1987), absolutely loving it and thinking: Who is Michael Jackson? 😮🤯
hi @bluemoon7 goddess of the power of 7 . Yep and i was a little later 1991 here so i missed bad ,thriller, wall,
Darling, Michael Clark doesn't even know who you are, lol.
That's because hes out cold on the floor now

This made me feel a little bit tearful. This is a beautiful summation of the Michael 'thing'. I don't even know what to call it. It's so many things. So many beautiful, mystical, enchanting things.

I'm fascinated by the way in which so many people can feel a connection to a person they haven't met - often to someone creative - and yet, in Western society, at least, we've decided that it can't happen. Or it shouldn't happen. Or there must be something wrong with you. Something lacking. We have got ourselves into a bit of a muddle over this, imo. I think the connection can be a very real, important, meaningful thing. Why assume it's a delusion or something weird or harmful?

Reading the Lizzo stories today and then thinking of Michael. How Brad Sundberg talks about him. Matt Forger. Marsha Ambrosius. The list goes on and on.

He was a beautiful spirit. And we are lucky to be able to recognise that and to allow ourselves to be embraced by it.

[...] you didn't have have to worry if you have this amount of likes on a post you on social media
You don't have to worry about those things now, though. You can just decide not to. Social pressure is a problem, it always has been, for every generation. That is never going to change. Us humans, we're weird. No getting away from it. So that pressure will always be there. But you can decide to ignore it, to give it less importance in your life.

But don't take this as me preaching at you. I'm not. And it's normal to fret about stuff like this. But, in time, you can learn to shrug off this type of stuff.

My fandom was paper ..because i collected a-lot of books /posters / magazines/ fanzines and wrote alot. And if you wanted to connect with other fans you'd do pen pals or go to MJ meet up party's...so , things were not as instant , but was it carefree ? yeah like zin says @zinniabooklover it is a tricky question !

@@mjfanatic777 I'm going to say it was slightly 2D .🤔 the internet is 3D maybe....... so we see the whole picture (didn't have to worry about fuz balls and Voldemorts blustering about ) and fighting with fashion stylists changing the colour scheme! 🤸‍♀️
We would have done that all over the corded phone somehow ! haha

Darling, I can't even explain to you just how incredibly cool Michael Clark was back in the day. He was THE rock star of the ballet world. You have no idea.

Actually, being serious for a moment, he's very low-key these days but there are reasons for that. He will always be my boy.

Yes ID theft and also scams, stuff like that. Things are more open , so mental health and sexuality get talked and discussed freely today those things were controversial to talk about for a long time. I don't think people are more understanding though

But that's my point. You've already worked out that this is a problem and that it isn't all that great. You're not being mindlessly sucked into something. You might feel the pressure sometimes - as we all do, that's normal - but you are also looking at it from a bit of a distance and, hopefully, seeing that it isn't necessarily wonderful. Getting a load of 'likes' doesn't mean much in the end. It's not RL.

At least you're thinking about this stuff, you're not embracing it mindlessly. Or that's how it seems to me. I might be misinterpreting what you're saying but you seem to have a sensible attitude towards all of this.

So , when Bucharest's dangerous world tour night , Oprah and M , and the 1993 superbowl was being broad cast these three events were legendary to a fan.
I mean even in 2001 i was still going to the library to check mj forums mjni ...and the little daily text we got for the trail
