Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary- DVD / Blu Ray [available on iTunes Nov 19]

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Prince should stay away from this documentary, just like he did with Bad, it's better without him!

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Yeah - I see no reason why Prince should talk about an album he did not wanna be a part of.

Totally agree! My personal take is Prince didn't feel the song was good enough for him on top of all the stuff about him singing that first line of the song to MJ. :imbad Now what is he going to say? meh...stay away Prince!

Agreed. Just Beat It Prince....

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Michael always wanted to work with Prince, I mean he had no problems with it at all.
But Prince rejecting singing in WATW and in Bad, says a lot. :p

I remember I saw the movie Under the Cherry Moon and there's also a line that referenced MJ.
One of Prince's friend said "Only confused men wear loafers" lol
I remember I was like "Here we go again " when I saw that part.

I thought the story was that Prince was late for the recording session or something? Anyway, even if he didn't sing on WATW, he did write and record For The Tears In Your Eyes for the single release. So it's not as if he stayed away from it completely.

Anyway, this isn't a Prince thread...so back on topic :)

Yes I know he gave that song to the single release. But I don't believe he was "late" for the recording session pfff come on :D

But you're right, back on topic please! :D

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

This is great news. I can not wait!

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Justin Bieber will be in Spike's documentary! I'm really shocked and disappointed.

"Interesting thing is that we interviewed Justin Bieber for this documentary, and you know he idolizes Michael. And I love Kanye and Jay and everybody else, but there's only one Michael Jackson. So if there's only one Michael Jackson, how can anybody be the new king of pop?"

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Now all of the sudden, his recent MJ rip-offs make a whole lot more sense. Oh, the little prick...

It's just so sad to see this happening. Cause you know people will be watching this documentary years from now, our kids will probably watch this documentary years from now and they'll go: 'Who the hell are these people? Justine Beever? Criss Broun? Never heard of these guys..."

*sigh*

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

JB in the doc??

Worst news about this doc...

That's Spike Lee's official twitter page. Express your feelings and concerns. We should demand that he removes him from his documentary. Instead of Justin Bieber and Chris Brown (who weren't even born when Bad was released!!!) he could interviewed Jay-Z & Kanye West, people who actually worked with Michael at some point of his career. The best thing of course would be just people involved in Bad album and tour, but if he wants some current stars he should interview people who actually met and worked with MJ!

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Having Justin Bieber & Chris Brown in there just takes away from other people he could have interviewed. You know...people who actually worked on the album!? I hope they're barely in the documentary.

If any one does something so arrogant ?? I hope he tells them to eff off - Jeeez -
now I think the reason is that he is also interviewing top artists of the day who
are inspired by MJ - He isnt choosing people becuase you like them or not - that
woudl be foolish. Spike has every right to interview who he pleases without rabbid
fans attacking him. This is for the world not just for fan who like or dont like like Chris
or Beiber.. I dont care for either myself but they are relevant in that they are both
inspired by MJ .. I respect Spike Lee and would never be so arrogant in telling him
how he should create his work .. I dont understand fans arrogance sometimes :(

That being said I cant stand what Beiber has been doing. but that will not be the focus
of the documentary just a small part ..I would love to hear Spike call him out, but I dont
think that the purpose of the documentary to honor MJ .. It will be GREAT though
I have faith ..

Typical MJ fans crap. DEMAND. DEMAND. DEMAND.

What are we..? 4?

Go to him sideways with this pompous attitude, and he will chew you and spit you out in a new york minute.

That's putting it mildly... but I agree with everything you wrote.

I am going to wait and see how this turns out. I just want it to be positive and all about Michael.

I don't want to tell anyone what to do but I don't think we should demand anything. We don't know who in all he has talked to, what footage he has and what message he wants from this to be shown. We only know a few details and that isn't really much.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

I think John Branca wants to avoid the mistakes of Elvis's estate. Those over Elvis's estate only targeted his long time fans , there's nothing wrong with that but the executors didn't really introduced him to the upcoming generation maybe b/c they know his fans would buy everything b/c of their devoted love to elvis. One of the key factors for your legacy living on is crossing over to the new generation b/c what happens when majority of your fanbase are no longer alive anymore. Elvis is not that popular with the kids today but on the other hand, there are lots of young adults/teenager who love The Beatles' music 50 years later which is amazing b/c their parents or grandparents were probably youngsters when there was beatlemania, this is the result of the beatles being introduction to new audience through reissues of their albums, video games, the cirque show, and other countless merchandise. Michael's Legacy is going to be similar to that b/c even after his debut in 1969, he managed to crossover to an older generation and the younger generations after him which is amazing. Regarding Chris Brown and Justin Bieber they are the hottest stars out today and them being in the documentary which introduce Michael to their young fanbase. I was wathcing some mj videos on youtube and there were some comments from these young kids saying how much they fell in love with michael's music (they're justin biebers's fans also) and decided to check mj out after hearing justin talk about him alot and decided search mj on the internet

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

good point

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

This is for the world not just for fans

That is the most important thing to remember.
Not everything is for us and we need to think of Michael's legacy. What we think is good for us, is not necessary best way to keep Michael's legacy alive.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Maybe the word "demand" was a bit too strong. I'm sorry if I offended someone here, but that is just my opinion. Justin Bieber should not be on anything related to Michael Jackson. The next thing will be a duet with Justin on some "duet album" in the future..

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Ok I have no problem with people like Chris Brown and Bieber being in the documentary as long as their contribution is kept to an appopriate length.

Mj is gone and the Estate need to prolong his legacy and hopefully maintain it into the future.
Showing the world how MJ inspires the current generation of biggest pop stars in the world is a great way to do that. People in the media wrote MJ off as an irrelevant has-been for years but the inclusion of CB and JB (and hopefully others) will show that is not the case. Also, by including those people in the show it may encourage non-mj fans to watch it, and may even convert some of them to fans or at least give them a healthy respect for somebody that they didn't have before. That approah does work. When I was younger I knew next to nothing about James Brown. I saw how MJ and Prince loved JB and I was soon listening to his music and now I would say he is one of my favourite all time entertainers.
However, I don't want this documentary to be just be full of fawning celebs gushing over MJ (like in 'The One'). It should ideally focus on the creative process involved in making the album and promoting it with the World Tour. Obviously high quality tour footage, backstage footage and recording studio footage would be top of our list, and we may still get something like that. We know some people who were involved in the creative process have been interviewed so let's not write this show off just yet...

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Blaah, do I need to see this MJ copycat on the documentary too??? Getting sick of him.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

^^^

I'll second that!

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

So many people that could be on it and they choose Justin Bieber? God... that's terrible. I would accept Chris Brown, but Bieber? Come on, what about Stevie Wonder? He was IN the album...

I want that MJ in jeans pic from West Lake Studios :clapping:
Anyone going to visit, please can you take it for me?

He has interviewed Chris Brown for the document too, I think Jay Z and Kanye are in it too.

Ugh you guys need to calm down. If you have a problem with Justin being in the documentary then don't watch it when it comes out. Why some of the fans have a problem with everything JB does? Yeah we all know JB will never be MJ, but to sit there and bash him for no reason really?! And the majority of you guys are grown. So I'm guessing you bashing a teenager is really mature then? Just be happy that a documentary is taking place & stop complaining about who's in it.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

The first artist who Spike interviewed that I respect and that deserves to be in this documentary (although I would prefer no current stars at all, just people involved in making of Bad album). This guy is a fan (like Chris and Bieber) but he actually met Michael and worked with Michael. Jay-Z and Beyonce would be cool too.
