Around the world with Michael ~ Japan Sept 1987 ~ and Michael impressed with books he had seen by Japanese Illustrator, animator and designer of video game characters Mutsumi Inomata invites her to meet him at his hotel Capital Tokyo, where he requested she draw him as an anime style character. The resulting drawing appearing in the January 1988 magazine Newtype.
Mutsumi who enjoyed Michael's concert, remembered Michael wearing red socks and was also very kind. Michael who had purchased Mutsumi's art book 'Space Prince' also signed her copy and took photos of the occasion.

..he sat on his lap *jealous*“Michael Jackson and the kid he did the Pepsi commercial with came in unannounced to the Halsted Street store,” Frankel said. “I asked Michael to get in the photo booth with me. He had a vanilla milkshake at the soda fountain. He got in the booth, we were both smiling and he sat on my lap. He bought a lot of stuff. He collected Disney and vintage stuff.” A copy of the strip from the photo-booth visit hangs above the Uncle Fun counter. ~ Ted Frankel
The Uncle Fun novelty store, 1338 W. Belmont, which opened in 1988 will close on 26th January 2014 and Frankel recalls his memories including this visit from Michael.
