Prince Jackson steps into public spotlight - endorses jackets by J5 / Jackson's sue for nonpayment

Cassie oh oh I think we will be agreeing with Karen for the 2nd time. She really said something we have all been saying over and over.

I guess the company paid the travel costs and gave them some of the money up front. When I go to the fanconvention, I better not see any fans buying these jackets!!!!!!!!!!

This little project with the jackets is really interesting because due to the lawsuit brought my the bros it reveals alot of info which we wd have been unaware of. I think although it was estate endorsed, jackie took charge of this project because he has a clothing line under estate auspices (think i'm right in that) and the man who is making the jackets is a family friend of jermaine, so unusually this seems to be an official project but with family involvement.

Apparently the lawsuit has resulted in the company paying $234,000 to the estate for the licence to make the mj jackets, which is 10% of the gross profits - maybe that's par for the course for licenceing agreements. Don't know how much the bros settled for, but they were meant to be getting $400,000 plus expenses, that 's nearly 20% of gross profits - nearly double what the estate's cut is. Forget the signatures, they're practically worthless, how can relatives' signatures add value to mj clothing for mj fans or collectors. It didn't even give the jackets exposure in the media - it was prince's presence that guaranteed the media coverage. This was clearly the family taking a cut out of an mj project - 20% of gross profits is huge. And just think if they had been executors this would have happened in every single thing that wd be done in mj's name.

have the estate ever confirmed they are involved in this? cause if they were u think the bros would be getting paid 100K? if they are getting the that the estate would be getting x amount times more. and u can bet they arent as where the money coming from to pay them?

it was prince's presence that guaranteed the media coverage.
Outside of CNN, did anyone else even report this story?

So you wonder how were they going to sell these jackets in the first place? The family just doesn't get the A-list media coverage to pull off any successful venture.

will we ever be able to find out how many jackets have been sold?

Just want to see how many rich DUMB A$$'s there are.

Website mentions estate receiving money here -

So the estate got $235,000 for granting the licence and the brothers got over $400,000. Crazy. I imagine the bros (maybe through jackie?) got some autonomy from the estate to do this deal, and this is what they came up with, completely exploiting the mj brand to make some personal money. Just shows the estate can't trust them with anything, and it's the fans who will end up paying - adding over $400 to a collectible jacket.

Angie - i've no idea what advertising it got but the cnn report prob wdn't have happened without prince's presence.

Someone asked Paris on Twitter why Prince always has his earphone in his ear especially last night on X-factor and she said that he only uses to take calls, he uses his phone For BUSINESS/EMERGENCIES only.

Hmmmm.....

More like sat listening to music. my 14 year old neighbour has them attached to his head!

It's really interesting to see this Limited Edition Michael Jackson Jacket selling on Groupon for $1,299 each -- and people are buying them, according to the Groupon sales statistics.

The signature red jacket is signed by four of the Jackson brothers: Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon Jackson.

It's listed as being worth $2,350 -- and it harkens back the style of the King of Pop when Michael wore a similar style in the "Thriller" or "Beat It" videos.

For $1,299, fans can get their signed jackets with shipping already included, and it would make a nice gift for a Michael Jackson super-fan, or for someone wanting to hold onto the unique gift and see if it appreciates in value.

With a discount of 45% listed, which purports to let customers save $1,051 per jacket purchased, the Michael Jackson jacket seems to have more of an arbitrary value assigned, because there's probably nothing else like it.

There's more than 6 days left to buy -- and I wonder how many of these they have in stock and are selling.
