Prince Appreciation Thread - For Fans

Re: Prince...........

Thanks for ^ article about Wendy and Lisa, very interesting. Idk what planet I've been on, but I sure don't remember ever reading or knowing about them as a lesbian couple.

And Prince, love the guy, uber talented/multisided/and somewhat of a dictator at times. He's always fascinated me for so many reasons.
That's one of the reasons he doesn't keep people long. Out of all his band members, Dr. Fink lasted the longest. Prince never got rid of him, Fink left to start a family.

Re: Prince...........

^ Nope I think nobody has gotten the shirt yet.

Yeah the site has so much potential, and there are a lot of promises... but it's been 3 months now and nothing interesting has happened since the opening in March.

He would be a fool to let this go to waste, cuz many people will end their memberships by the end of the year if nothing happens. He just needs to update it every month (minimum) to keep us interested.

My bet is by the end of the yaer he will put a little awesome stuff online so that we will continue to be a member. If that is the case, I won't buy it... I will cancel the membership and become an illegal downloader.

We paid 77 bucks for some action over there. So far the only thing we've gotten are some vids we already had, The Morning After (just over 2 mins) and a T-shirt (that still hasn't reached my mailbox)

Re: Prince...........

This is a bit off topic but, I've been wanting to draw a portrait of Prince for a while now but I can't find a good, large pictue, the more detailed the picture, the more detailed the portrait.
Anyone of you fans know a good site with lots of great picture?
I know there are some great site with MJ pictures so there surely must be a site where they gather a lot of Prince pictures, right?
I just can't find it! :)

Housequake.com had a lot, but it's gone now. But try Prince.org, but you have to be a member to look at the gallery. Try looking at http://www.princeinfo.net/ also and the link-list they have.

Re: Prince...........

There is an article in the current issue of Spin about "Purple Rain". Members of The Revolution, Appollonia, the director of the movie, + others are interviewed. But there's no Prince involvement as usual, lol.

Re: Prince...........

I agree. I'm a member of Prince.org, and I get tired of all the MJ bashing. I even pointed out once that MJ fans respect Prince, but Prince fans don't seem to respect MJ. I was ignored.

There are exceptions. I've seen A LOT of members, there, saying that Prince is a nothing compared to MJ, saying that MJ is much better than Prince. In fact, I know members from prince.org saying that they just go there to talk about Michael (in a positive way). I also know people who go there and keep talking trash about Prince. Besides, it's notorious that many members are a bit sick of Prince and refuse to bash other artists but Prince.

In my point of view, Prince fans are a bit jealous of Michael's. Michael is the one who sold almost a billion of albuns. Michael is the one who is recognized all over the world. Prince is not well known outside of USA and, after Purple Rain, he hasn't been able to sell more than a dozen of LPs. And Prince fans know that. When Jackson died, a lot of members from prince.org said that Jackson was the greatest entertainer of all time and that Prince still has a lot to learn in order to be like Jackson.

And don't forget that Prince has very few foruns dedicated to him which means that every diehard/hardcore Prince fan goes to prince.org. And we all know that hardcore fans (mainly hardcore Prince fans) don't respect any artist but Prince. It doesn't take too much to realize that only diehard Prince fans bash Jackson. And I'm a member of the prince.org for ages.

Jellybean Johnson cracked on Prince in that story. some interesting things here and there. Alan Leeds said some real interesting points about Prince and the Music thereafter. interesting and hard to believe it's been 25 years ago. feels just like yesterday.

Re: Prince...........

I am a huge Prince fan!

I don't really understand all the constant comparison between Prince and Michael. Maybe they are somewhat similar but not...really. Musically they are very different, lyrically, performing, instrumentation... I know they were pegged as "enemies" or something back in the day but they're really not that alike aside from being totally committed to their art.

Well I guess it's because both of them had one of their peaks in the 80's, Prince's Purple Rain and MJ's Thriller. And they both come from R&B and Soul music background if you get what I'm saying. They are very different as you say, but MJ's only real rival in the 80's was Prince, I mean who else was there?

Er, Billy Ocean! :tease:

Re: Prince...........

I like Prince's earlier music up through the early 90s. But I have always been a bigger fan of Michael Jackson. Where is Prince, btw? And Why haven't we heard a statement from him. The truth is they were rivals musically, but admired each other's work. I think they were friendly outside of that.

Prince never talks to the press about anything. That's just not what he does, unless he's trying to sell an album. He gets upset if former band members, managers, friends, etc. talks about him in interviews, even if it's positive.

I never expected Prince to release a statement about Michael's passing, it's just not the type of thing Prince does. He's more likely to perform or record a cover version of a Michael Jackson or Jackson 5 song as a tribute to Michael.

21 Nights: The Prince Opus - New Book
A new Prince book published by Opus is available for Pre-Order and it comes with an iPod with a 40min movie and exclusive footage of Prince during his 21 Nights at the O2. I've seen the documentary an an Opus Gallery in Covent Garden, London and it's brilliant footage. The down side is this pre-oder is a limited editon book of just 950 copies and costs $2,100.00.

I really want that 40min movie of the 02 concert. Why can't Prince just release this on Blu-ray or DVD.

Re: Prince...........

Okay, where are all my Prince fans at? I know there are a lot of Michael fans such as myself who love Prince as well. After Michael, Prince is my favorite artist actually. What can I say about Prince really that hasn't been said already? I mean he's a musical genius and one of the greatest and most influential entertainers ever. I saw him on his "Musicology" tour three times back a few years ago and thought he was incredible. Definitely the best live performer i've ever seen.

Good LORD! While obviously I'd be interested in the product, that price-tag, WOW!

Re: Prince...........

I love Prince! "Diamonds and Pearls" is one of my favorite songs... ever. :) I love his image and appeal more than anything though.

I saw the Opus book when I was looking at Michael's. I'd love to get my hands on that puppy, but I'm digging a grave for myself by shelling out the $165 for Mike's book.

Michael's book is a very low price compared to Prince's. Prince sure does see his fans as money more so than fans.

Re: Prince...........

I love Prince. I remember when he was touring with Madonna in the 80's. My mom and sister tried to get tickets, and they were sold out. That would have been an awesome show.

i love prince from the 1980's. everytime i hear 1999 i wanna dance!

I don't know what Prince's reputation is with his die-hard fans to say. I do know the price for Michael's Opus is for a limited time only though when you pre-order. I'm sure that's only because of the circumstance, plus the fact that it's not limited edition like the rest of the Opus books. All the others are about the same price or more than Prince's.

Mike did charge people $3000 in Japan just to see him, no performance or book, lol.

The $3000 was also to meet Michael and have your photo taken with him, even though it was a lot of money when many fans meet Michael for free. I think that is worth more than a book and movie that will properbly be released in one form or another at a cheaper price in the future.
