Na, they've only been to the north island, but they want to explore the south island one day. I looked at it in google earth.... is that a mountain in the middle of the south part of the south island???

yea there's a whole row of them, called the Southern Alps. it's where the fault line runs

actually , i went to the mall yesterday & i bought a huge christmas tree
& i need somebody's help to decorate it :p

well we don't usually get them here in CHCH, they usually happen further down south. i've felt one Earthquake down in Invercargill (right at the bottom) and that's it. you ever felt one?
 
Once but it was REALLY weak though. I was in Milwaukee and there's a fault line many don't know about down by Missouri in the US (in the middle of the country basically). Some little off branch of that one moved a bit and we felt it by us which is super rare. Only reason I felt it was because I happen to be up at like 2am on the computer. I was like....... WOAH what was that? Then I called a girl at my work (i used to work third) and she'd felt something too. Then it came on the news. Was bizarre!

Interesting I figured you'd feel more of them.
 
Nah i hardly ever feel them, apparently we have heaps of them here but i guess they are all pretty small. there was a really big one down south a few months ago, 7.6 or something and i know people that live down there and they said their whole house was shaking... that'd freak me out if it happened here

^^ yea it may of been. i'm pretty sure there was a tsunami warning for a while but nothing actually happened. they probably just reported a 10cm high wave like they usually do :p

I don't think i've asked you what you're doing for xmas, have I? sooo what you doin for xmas?? ;)

It's weird though :unsure: For 30 years I've had "white christmases" with snow, freezing temps, etc and I associate the holidays with it. And this year I'm here.... and it's summer and warm and all that and it's a little harder to be in the holiday spirit but I'm workin on it... :) We aren't totally sure yet. We've talked about going to the Catholic club here for Christmas eve, having dinner, drinks, etc. My friends are worried it will be too quiet with just three of us at home that evening, since I'm used to being with a huge family. I do know on Xmas day we are cooking a big ham and a bunch of stuff, having probably too much wine, etc haha. Between my birthday (the 21st) and the day after Xmas.... I will probably be a bit boozed up every day :rofl: or almost anyhow.... I'm going to need a vacation afterwards!!!

Okay, so what are you doing for Christmas???? :D With family? You have any traditions?
 
lol im the other way around, i'm used to it being all warm for xmas. yea i'll be with family.. on christmas morning we are driving down to Dunedin from Oamaru (like an hour and a bit away)(driving on xmas day sucks :() and having lunch down there..
 
LOL that is awesome! Funny how with one part of the family it's all tame and more formal/well behaved :)

That's too funny. :p Why does the driving suck? Traffic issues??? I know in the States it's a big driving day so I'm assuming it's the same by you too.
