need to vent. I posted the link to the petition on several russian forums and some people there are saying that they won't sign it because they feel sorry for Murray. unbelievable. and these people call themselves Michael Jackson fans.
I noticed that I find it rather difficult to hang around fan forums of my 2 mother tongues...for a number of reasons.
For example countless MJ fans (!!) still think *acko is a cute term of endearment because of a language barrier that prevents them for a)listening for themselves why Michael finds this hurtful and b)they are simply not feeling the implication in that term.
That leads to many weird things. Unless you have an excellent grasp of American English and know the legal mumbo-jumbo, it's extremely difficult to catch the nuances. You'll have plenty of different ways between the English and North American Fans alone- just watching the Prelim. Hearings threads is a good indication how people from different cultural backgrounds with differing expertise in English are taking to the news here.
I remember one "Michael" album thread where one fan wrote that this album's "the shit." Somebody who loved the album very much took big offense until someone explained 'shit/vs 'da shit'. :wild:
It's next to impossible for many non-natives to even start reading the coroner's report, heck, for native speakers that thing reads like the Book of Raziel.
The fact that many people feel sorry for Murray also comes from this yeah-Michael-is-an-addict-what-can-you-do type thinking. (totally unrelated for most to any conspiracy thoughts)
Across the world the mind set of 'a Doctor can do no wrong' is akin to a sacred cow if you will.
Unfortunately on many MJ boards you'll run into the conviction that Michael was an addict and thus had it comin' but generously in an act of I don't know, they'll love MJ "no matter what". I find that rather mind boggling myself.
But: across the world there was also head scratching, surprise and downright outrage about WTF is taking so long. And what on Earth could be wrong with the US Justice System to repeatedly single out Michael Jackson as the one who does NOT receive equal treatment under the law- in life and in death.
Oh, and by the way, I remember reading the comments on the story you translated for a Russian forum- and those were very sweet sentiments very much the same across the world.
Please don't feel bad, I know where you're coming from. It can be immensely frustrating to be the one sitting between cultures.
I too, have posted this petition across the web trying everything I can to circulate it wherever possible- and sometimes standing up for something you believe in is downright hurtful. But that's okay in the long run. Just stand up for what you believe is right.
