Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

This is a whole different ballgame now. It's make or break time now.

It's not to compare with a random interview.

IMO

"Jamba, Detective Martinez discussed interventions today and they were discussed in the defense’s opening statements as well. I do not know if concertventions will be mentioned during the trial." (Tygger)

Problem is family claims the concertventions were interventions--if they went to see MJ about touring or performing with them, they say that was actually an intervention. Problem is, the family did not know what was going on in MJ's life.

KJ's deposition states she received $$ from MJ. She received 1 million before each tour. She had all expenses paid at Hayvenhurst and 2k for groceries per month (although some bills were in arrears when MJ died). If all these bills were paid under normal circumstances, what happened to the 1 million she got before the tours? MJ gave her 500k when he left after the trial and his accountant would write her a check when she asked for it. She said MJ gave her 20k or more a few times in 09 when he was in LA. She can't remember how much or how often. (info from the trail summary thread).

So they shouldn't seek justice because the media might say something bad?

They are not seeking justice, it's a civil suit and almost all their claims were rejected. By the way like MJ did appearing drunk and ont poing to work,in à normal and see how you will be treated and it won't be différent.

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

Ok I misspoke seems Ivy did a summary of paris deposition

actually you were right the first time. Depositions haven't been public so we don't know what they said at depositions. What I did was the summary of the written questions - interrogatories - they sent to Jacksons.

Please someone. Does the jury award one full amount or they decide how much each plaintiff should get?

it will depend on the verdict form. The last we heard they were arguing about whether there will be one full amount (and jacksons can divide it anyway they want) or if there will be different determination for each plaintiff. AEG had argued that there won't be any damages for Katherine.

They said that then in 2007 because Michael was alive and they didn't want to hurt him by allowing people to think that he had a problem. Now he is dead, there are things that otherwise would have been private that unfortunately have to come out in order to get to the bottom of what happened. Michael himseld used to say things to the media that weren't true in order to manage his image. It's all PR and that's how the industry works.

I agree with Stella that in 2007 they were probably lying to protect Michael's image and it's pretty common. The important part though is that letter is hurting Jackson's claim that Michael had a "known" "addiction". For example if someone heard the rumors but then read the 2007 Jacksons letter saying that all the rumors were lies, would they know the "addiction" or would they believe the Jacksons and thought it was all lies?

If they win the suit then it would be justice I suppose in terms of the damage it will do to AEG, financially and commercially.

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

I don't think anyone is 100% reliable or unreliable. He is clearly someone who was around in MJ's life in the final years. If he was not called by Janet for help when her tour was cancelled, if he did not suggest to her that he would go to LV and talk to MJ about touring, if he did not go to Rebbie's house where he met Janet, Randy, Marlon, and Jermaine, if they did not all truck over to MJ's house and spend hours trying to convince MJ to tour with brothers and Janet, if all that did not happen in Feb 17, 2007 in MJ's LV house, then we should hear about it at the trial. Until then, I believe him.

It won't be justice. No company would allowed an employee to appear drunk at work.

I know a lot of fans don't want to hear it but Michael did have a problem. Look atthe number od timeshe was betting demerol shots from Klein. It doesn't make him any less human to accept his faults.

Michael Jackson Sues Ex-accountants ( Randy's team)

23 December 2006

Michael Jackson is suing his former accountants, accusing them of making unauthorised business deals and charging him millions of dollars.
Jackson and his production company filed the lawsuit against Bernstein, Fox, Whitman, Goldman and Sloan yesterday at Los Angeles Superior Court.
They claim the firm didn't keep Jackson informed of his financial affairs and committed negligence and breach of fiduciary duty. They are calling for unspecified damages and a thorough audit of money paid to the company for services provided.
Earlier in 2006, Jackson's spokeswoman Raymone Bain revealed she suspected Jackson was being defrauded by business associates and advisers.
She said in August (06), "Mr Jackson is neither shocked nor surprised by these revelations. He has long been suspicious that some of those whom he entrusted to act on his behalf, and to advise him with respect to his personal and business affairs, may not have always acted in his best interest." http://www.contactmu...untants_1017414

t had to happen eventually: With no work coming his way, Michael Jackson, sources say, has agreed to do a tour with sister Janet and his brothers.
I'm told that Michael reluctantly met with his siblings on Monday in Las Vegas. Sisters Janet and Rebbie, as well as Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, Tito and Jackie, all knocked on Jackson's Las Vegas door around 7:30 p.m. Nanny Grace Rwaramba, who runs the door, made them wait between 30 and 60 minutes before allowing the brood in.
What was discussed was the family's financial situation and the fact that Jackson has so far been unable to get work in Vegas. Sources say concert promoter Leonard Rowe of Atlanta, who worked with the Jacksons in the 1980s, was there and made a proposal: a family tour with all members.

The weird thing is, Michael seemed to understand what was happening.
That's good, too, because Jackson is still "radioactive," according to those familiar with the casino business. For example: The owner of one big casino hotel in the Caribbean recently told his chief executive to make sure Jackson was not invited to a big music event being arranged there this summer.
A successful Jackson family tour could change all that for Michael. It would also be a financial boon to a family that needs cash in a hurry. Jackson recently took a new mortgage on his parents' home, and his own home — the Neverland Valley Ranch — is in hoc to the tune of $25 million. Jackson himself relies on cash from royalties on his own songs. But that only comes to a maximum of $7 million a year. As described in court testimony, Jackson could go through that kind of money in just a couple of weeks.
The tour idea also works for Janet Jackson, whose last two albums have been huge duds. The idea of Michael and Janet performing a couple of duets, or Janet's brothers backing her on her own hits, would be a tantalizing notion to any promoter.
The question remains: If Michael agreed, will he go through with it? Stay tuned ...

Jackson Accuses His Brother Of Stealing From Him

18 June 2007

Singer Michael Jackson has accused his brother RANDY and advisors of attempting to steal money from him during his child molestation trial.
The Thriller hitmaker claims he was pressured to approve a multi-million dollar (pound) financing deal by an associate close to his older brother Randy during the trial in 2005.
Jackson insists his fortune was saved by the advice of long-time friend Reverend Jesse Jackson and supermarket billionaire Ron Burkle, reports the New York Daily News,
He says, "(The entertainment industry is) full of sharks, charlatans and imposters. Because there's a lot of money involved, there's a bunch of schmucks in there.
"It's the entertainment world, full of thieves and crooks. That's not new. Everybody knows that."

Michael Jackson's Family Calls for Help

Michael Jackson’s siblings — including Janet — and his parents are so worried about the failing pop star that they’ve sent out an emergency 911 call.
Sources tell me that the Jacksons are in the process of contacting Thomas Mesereau, the superstar criminal lawyer who won Jackson an acquittal two years ago in his child molestation trial.
The word from the Jacksons is that they’ve met several times as a family and discussed bringing Mesereau in for an intervention to save Michael.
Mesereau, who did not return calls to this column, is said to be open to finding out what Jackson’s true mental and health status is at this point. If he doesn’t like what he sees, the Jacksons will ask him to do something legal to save their brother’s life.
Jackson, according to insiders, is in perilous health right now. There is talk that his liver is damaged and that he’s been seen vomiting blood, although there’s no confirmation of that.
What has been confirmed is that Jackson — whose penchant for prescription meds and alcohol is well-known — is depressed, alone and mixing ingredients instead of making a new album or working.

But it’s the two-year isolation from friends and family that worried the Jacksons enough to consider including Mesereau in the conversation, sources tell me. The culprits are said to be publicist/manager Raymone Bain and aide de camp/nanny Grace Rwaramba.
For instance: this column has now learned that Bain has brought Rev. Jesse Jackson on in some kind of executive capacity in Michael’s businesses.
Bain and Jesse Jackson have a long relationship, so this is no surprise. But two years ago, Mesereau — sensing trouble — removed Bain and asked Jesse Jackson to leave after he arrived in Santa Maria, Calif., to grandstand at Michael’s trial.
It was Jesse Jackson who two years ago caused an avalanche in Michael’s finances. Jesse Jackson, sources say, interfered in Michael’s business by attempting to call Bank of America president Ken Lewis to complain that Michael was being “ripped off” in some way over his $270 million.
Lewis refused to speak with Jesse Jackson. He was so annoyed by Jackson’s interference that he ordered the banker in charge of the account to sell the loans to Fortress Investments.
The result was a sale and subsequent refinancing that put Jackson another $50 million in the red. Jesse Jackson at the time had convinced Michael that business partners Alvin Malnik and Charles Koppelman’s plan to bail out the singer was no good.
But in hindsight, he was wrong. Under the original plan, Jackson would only have sold half his interest in the Beatles’ catalog to Sony. Now, next May, thanks to the Fortress deal, he will have to dispose of all of it.

September 2007 the signed letter from the family except Randy .Janet and Rebbie.

Michael Jackson: Inside His Finances and Family

March 10, 2010 - Bodyguards Say King of Pop Did Not Often See His Family

While the Jackson family portrayed a unified front at Michael Jackson's funeral, three of his former bodyguards said Jackson did not often see his family in the two years prior to his death.

When he died, Michael Jackson faced drug problems and debt...

"There was another occasion when Randy came to the house and crashed the security gate with his vehicle and came inside. And at the time, I didn't know who he was and I drew my weapon on him and the first thing out of his mouth was 'Get that thing out of my face or I'll call the press,'" Whitfield said, who said he put away his weapon when he realized it was Randy.

Anyone with a brain can figure out what was really going on , the real reasons behind the "interventions" were very well known and documented .

They always run to the press to humiliate him ,to spread lies against him because of Katherine he always kept his mouth shut , and now look what dearest mother is doing to him , using and abusing him in death like she did in life to satisfy her greedy family

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

Randy's gf says the visit in Vegas was not an intervention she said it was for business

How great it would be if she is awarded nothing .

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

I guess we have to wait and see. Sorry my previous post, I didn't mean to be agressive

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

I have been making a concerted effort to avoid any news on this trial but some thins keep slipping through the net!

I just want to say that for me this is not about justice.

If the Jackson family had pursued Murray with the same vigor as are AEG - it would be about justice.

If they were asking for $1 plus legal costs - it would be about justice.

If the money there were asking for was going to charities Michael supported - it would be about justice.

It is not about justice and, as always, Michael is the one who gets the crappy end of the stick. I hope that as the trial progresses dirt is exposed about AEG and the Jackson family!!!! Right now everybody is just throwing rocks to hide their hands. It makes my stomach sick to know that because of this trial people who have disrespected Michael in life and in death get yet ANOTHER opportunity to wash their mouths on him.

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

If they win the suit then it would be justice I suppose in terms of the damage it will do to AEG, financially and commercially.

And what about the damage it will do to MJ? But I guess they are not concerned about that as their lawyer was asked about it and avoided answering. MJ will be the only loser here no matter how it ends.

What the media choose to report about Michael isn't the fault of the family. They shouldn't be afraid to file a wrongful death lawsuit just because the media will regurgitate the same old stories.

Yes. This is why I find what they are saying now so confusing and disappointing.

Im sorry but what the jacksons are doing is wrong. Their case cow is dead and they are broke. Their "interventions" were merely a cover to what they were doing to Michael - trying to make him be involved in another moneymaking scheme to benefit them Thats not to say I support. Aeg

But as his family why would they want those stories dredged up again?

I have never in my lifetime seen a family be so careless about a loved one's reputation.

It's the fact that no family would ever do this is what makes this whole thing so depressing.

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

I know Michael had a problem way back in 93 because he said he did. Maybe in 2001 as well but I have hard time believing he was this crazy addict when he died. He was desperate to sleep. I am not wearing rose colored glasses or anything like that. But with his family they change their stories about things many times. Not just about Michael but other things too. Their credibility is not strong to me. I am sorry I know it's his family but I just have a hard time. I don't like this case. Both sides are making Michael to look bad like some out of control addict who needed to be babied and watched. I know some people support this case and that's fine. It's too hard for me.

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

Im aware this is a discussion thread however, you guys do realize that the family has nothing to lose right? I mean, what can they possibly lose? Pride? MJ's reputation? Nothing is stopping them. They may be still ''recovering'' from his passing, but that ain't stoppin them from what they want to get. Heck, they dragged him through hell when he was alive, what will they not do when he's not around anymore? He aint loosing nothing in their eyes either, he has his fans and who wants to ''be'' one can probably look up everything these days and figure out whether he or them is the one with the wrongdoing.

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

I was talking about the March 2009 event. Nobody can critized RP for the way he reacted to a very unprofessional behavior.

The totality of that lawsuit, except for one claim, has been rejected by the judge, if they won it will be on a technicality, not their main claims.

Debts, drugs, messy bedroom highlighted in Michael Jackson wrongful death trial
By Alan Duke, CNN
updated 5:40 AM EDT, Fri May 3, 2013

How Michael Jackson's death unfolded
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
Conrad Murray was $1 million in debt when he took the job as Michael Jackson's doctor
A Las Vegas man told police Murray's negligence caused his father's death
Katherine Jackson told investigators her family "attempted several interventions"
Part of Thursday's testimony in the civil trial focused on the pop icon's messy bedroom
Los Angeles (CNN) -- A lawyer for Michael Jackson's family seemed satisfied as he left the Los Angeles courthouse after the first week of the pop star's wrongful death trial.
"There's a long way to go and we hope the evidence supports -- and we believe it does -- that Dr. (Conrad) Murray was unfit for the job he was hired to do," attorney Brian Panish said. "He was financially motivated and was in serious financial straits."
Jackson's mother and three children are suing AEG Live, contending the concert promoter is liable in the pop icon's death because it hired, retained and/or supervised Murray, the doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
Murray's fatal treatment of Jackson with the surgical anesthetic the coroner ruled killed him was the result of the doctors' financial desperation and pressure from AEG executives to have Jackson ready for rehearsals for his comeback tour, Jackson lawyers argue.
AEG contends it was Jackson who chose and controlled Murray, not its executives. The company had no way of knowing what treatments the doctor was giving the singer, who it said was an expert at keeping his "deepest, darkest secret"
Who\'s who in Jackson trial
Conrad Murray maintains his innocence Jackson doctor speaks from jail Jackson wrongful death trial under way
The trial's first witness was a paramedic who arrived at Jackson's home at 12:26 p.m. on June 25, 2009 to find a man who he initially thought was a hospice patient who had died after a long illness. Jackson lawyers see that description as support for their argument that AEG execs should have realized the frailty of Jackson's health.
AEG lawyer concedes: Michael Jackson is dead
The second witness was the Los Angeles Police detective who led the investigation of Jackson's death. Orlando Martinez arrived at court Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday wearing a black cowboy hat, which he said is not part of his uniform as a homicide investigator, but "the chief tolerates it."
The trial is off until Monday, when the coroner's toxicologist will give scientific testimony about the drugs found in Jackson's body after his autopsy. The doctor who conducted the autopsy will follow on the witness stand.
Conrad Murray's big debts
When AEG Live first talked to Murray about working as Michael Jackson's tour doctor, he asked for $5 million for a year. Now we know why.
Court records and credit reports showed Murray was at least $1 million in debt, including delinquent taxes, defaulted student loans, unpaid child support and a defaulted mortgage. His Las Vegas home, which had dropped in value by $500,000, was in foreclosure and his medical clinic was being evicted from an office building, according to records introduced as evidence in the trial.
Murray's chances of catching up financially became an achievable goal when AEG Live agreed to pay him $150,000 a month. Before that, his monthly expenses totaled $2,700 more than his income, according to one document.
Martinez testified that he concluded this was a major incentive for Murray to "break the rules, bend the rules, to do whatever he needed to do to get paid."
Murray's heavy burden of child support payments was the result of his fathering eight children with seven women.
Jackson lawyers contend AEG could have at least run a credit check on Murray before giving him the responsibility of caring for Michael Jackson. It should have been a red flag warning that he would put his paycheck above his Hippocratic Oath.
Conrad Murray claims innocence on phone
Photos: Michael Jackson, King of Pop
Jackson family wants AEG to pay Conrad Murray from jail: I'm innocent
Murray's other lost patient
The Jackson death trial jury broke out into laughter at the oddest time Thursday -- when Panish asked Martinez about another Murray patient who died under his care.
Lawyer: 'Ugly stuff' to come out at trial
A Las Vegas man called Los Angeles police to tell them about how he thought Murray's negligence caused his father's death. The man said he didn't file a medical malpractice suit because Nevada law discouraged him.
Panish: "You learned Conrad Murray wasn't sued for malpractice, but he had killed someone else?" (The jury laughs.)
Panish: "You learned that Dr. Murray had caused the wrongful death of someone else?"
Martinez: "Yes."
AEG's lawyer brought out a document showing the coroner ruled the man's death was from natural causes -- a heart attack.
Martinez also testified that Murray had been suspended from hospitals three times in the decade before Jackson's death. The loss of hospital privileges in one case was because he failed to promptly respond to a phone call when he was on call. The others appeared to be based on failure to follow record keeping procedures.
Elvis' ghost haunts Jackson trial
Jackson lawyers will argue that a background check on Murray by AEG executives would have revealed these and served as red flag warnings that he should not be Jackson's tour doctor. AEG lawyer will contend they had no way of knowing.
'One Jackson' policy
Only one of Katherine Jackson's eight sons and daughters can sit with her in court at one time, the judge ruled this week. Unlike in Murray's criminal trial when all of the Jacksons filled a courtroom bench at times, the family will have just two seats throughout the civil trial.
The limit was imposed because all of the Jacksons -- with the exception of Marlon -- are on AEG's witness list. AEG lawyers objected when they saw Randy and Rebbie sitting with their mother as the first witnesses testified. There is "a risk in allowing any of them in the courtroom," an AEG lawyer argued. The risk is their own testimony would be influenced by hearing the testimony of others, she said.
Panish successfully argued that at least one should be allowed to sit with their 82-year-old mother, who plans to be in court each day -- except for the gruesome medical testimony about her son's autopsy.
"I think Mrs. Jackson should have at least one support person in the court room," he said.
The Jacksons star power could influence jurors who sit just a few feet away from them in the tiny courtroom.
Jackson family intervention
AEG lawyers plan to call Janet, Jermaine, Jackie, Tito, La Toya, Rebbie and Randy Jackson to testify about their failed attempts to intervene with Michael Jackson's drug addiction and their lack of knowledge about what was happening to him. Only brother Marlon Jackson is not on the defense witness list.
AEG is trying to show that Jackson was able to deceive even those close to him about his drug use, which helps their argument that executives with the concert promoter could not have known about it.
The lawsuit contends that even if the executives didn't know about Murray's dangerous treatments, they should have.
Katherine Jackson told investigators that her family "attempted several interventions and she had spoken to her son about possible problems with drugs herself," Martinez testified Thursday. "He denied having a problem."
An intervention at Jackson's Neverland ranch, organized by sister Janet, failed because "Michael didn't want to participate," Martinez said.
Messy bedroom
The Los Angeles mansion where Michael Jackson died was clean and neat, except for Jackson's bedroom, according to Martinez. Jurors saw police photos taken hours after the pop icon's death, showing disorganized closets, cardboard boxes lining the hallway and a general mess throughout.
AEG lawyer Marvin Putnam spent several minutes questioning Martinez about the messiness. During the lunch break, the Jacksons' lawyer joked to reporters that Putnam has succeeded in proving Michael Jackson was messy.
Back in court, Panish asked the detective: "Is there anywhere in the penal code that says if you have a messy room that's against the law?" The jury thought that was funny and laughed.
Panish: "You've come across scenes that had a messy room?"
Martinez: "Yes."
Panish: "And that's an indication that someone is not doing well, that their health is bad and they can't clean the room?"
Martinez: "Yes."
Panish: "There were moving boxes in the room?"
Martinez: "Yes."
Panish: "Did you know he was planning to go to England? Within a week or two he was leaving that residence?"
Martinez: "Yes."
When Martinez walked into the upstairs master bedroom,, he found the gas fireplace was burning, the television was on and music coming from the CD player. Except for Murray, "only the chef who can drop off food at the door" was allowed upstairs, he testified.

^^^^^...the end of that article says that '"When Martinez walked into the upstairs master bedroom,, he found the gas fireplace was burning, the television was on and music coming from the CD player. Except for Murray, "only the chef who can drop off food at the door" was allowed upstairs, he testified."

I find it ODD that there was a GAS fireplace burning with Michael in the next room wearing OXYGEN. Oxygen is flammable....and there is NOT suppose to be ANY gas near it EVER. That is why there are signs outside rooms that say "no smoking oxygen in use".. They could of blown that whole damn house up with that gas stove fumes and oxygen usage.

Re: Open General discussion - Katherine Jackson vs AEG (daily threads merged)

lots of ppl speak.b.s in opening statements that they never prove. i doubt this case will be any different

So true^^--The majority of the Muarry's defense opening statement is a good example.

Panish states in the opening statement about Michael: because of his pain and the use of pain killers he developed insomnia.

Is this some lie Katherine told Panish or did Panish simply make this up. Even Katherine has said before that Michael always had insomnia. Now that this case is in court the insomnia is due to pain killers and pain? This case is only 4 days and there is so much rewriting of history that I cringe to think about what else will be rewritten by the end of the trial.

Panish did not even mention that when Michael had some creative project going on, his insomnia increased. Oh no, every thing is due to pain & pain killers.

How about being accused wrongfully & going to court with people jeering--wouldn't that increase your insomnia. How are you going to sleep at night. Oh no only pain & pain killers cause insomnia for Michael Jackson.

I don't understand why they are bringing up Michael having a messy room.

Wasn't this testified in the Murray trial though, that demerol or demerol withdrawal can cause insomnia? That is probably what they are referring to.

Right. I think they want to say either Michael is messy, or something really horrible happened there, who knows..... Anyway I for once I had to give thumbs up to Putnam for asking if it is a crime to have a messy room, or if Martinez knew that Michael was packing to go to London or words to that effect. Let's see if there are more occasions during this trial when I can give either side a thumbs up.
