Official MTV Video Awards Thread [Janet Jackson, Trailer, Spoliers Here]

10 MORE MINUTES FOR MICHAEL'S TRAILER!!!

Michael, you're seriously the only reason I'm watching the show this year. I missed Janet's performance, but this'll be playing all night... so I'll get to see her perform.

Anyone kind enough, I really need a youtube link for the trailer... it's the only way for me right now. Thank you in advance. :praying

I won't 'chill out' or 'relax' - if I did so, how would anything ever change? What you said was wrong and extremely hurtful to a lot of fans, not to mention utterly bigoted.

I don't care what sexes were screaming and when! We're talking about a man, Michael Jackson, who completely unapologetically broke down all gender specifications just by expressing his character through his looks and body language. I hate the word androgynous, because I don't think that that's what he was, and he definitely wasn't asexual either. He simply just proved that straight and gay and all that shit has no relevance and no importance as long as you express yourself, as long as your message was positive, and as long as people love you. And when Madonna made that comment tonight, she knew exactly what message she was conveying - and I'm sure Michael was giggling from his cloud.

I'm not about to get into an argument here, but please yall stop. Enough. Michael was NOT about overtly-political or sexual agendas, no matter how much people want to try to make him out to be now that he's gone.

Michael was an artist. In fact the BEST musical artist of all-time. He was not out there promoting homosexuality, politics, etc. Yes he had a look, but that look had nothing to do with sex. It had to do with innocence. Childlike innocence.

So please...can we all knock it off with all the back and forth about gay this and gay that?

Thanks.

Man been trying to get on since 12am... MJJC shut down on me..lol

All I can say is I AM EXCITED, HE LOOKED SO VIBRANT IN THAT TRAILER...

I thought the Dancers were incredible. They had Michael steps down to a T and they brought it home how innovative and creative he was when it came to dancing. I think people who saw the VMA's and are part of the Chris Brown, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Neyo generation saw for the first time that Michael Jackson is no doubt a major influence in their careers. There is nothing original that they do that Michael Jackson hasn't done already. I thing a lot of none Michael Jackson fans could see that.

I think Madonna by far gave the most in depth analysis of Michael Jackson career and his public life as a celebrity than anybody has ever done.

Janet performance wasn't that impressive to me. She was being Janet. There wasn't anything special that she did and I really didn't expect that she would try to over shadow Michael. I thing her performance was very appropriate for the tribute to her brother.

Kanye West should be banned for life attending award shows. He is just plain ignorant and I believe overrated.

Beyonce performance was ok, but she does have a lot of class for what she did for Taylor Swift.

The best part of the award show was the opening.

That was so disappointing. I hadn't watched that show in years but did so because of Michael. Unfortunately, Kanye overshadowed it. I respect Kanye West's accomplishments as an artist but his thuggish idiotic behaviour has knocked the tribute to Michael aspect (Madonna's speech and Janet's compotent performance) and the This Is It trailer out of the spotlight which they rightly deserve.

MTV VMA: Kanye West apologises for interruption

Kanye West has apologized for storming onto the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards during a speech by Taylor Swift.

Published: 8:00AM BST 14 Sep 2009

West used his blog to try to defuse the situation. In a standard all-capital letters message, West said: "I'M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD'VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED!"

West - who has lost out at the VMAs, the Grammys and the American Music Awards - reacted to support Beyonce after she was overlooked for the Best Female Video.

Beyonce, nominated for best female video for "Single Ladies," was beaten by Swift, the best-selling artist of the year apart from Michael Jackson.

The 19-year-old expressed shock at her acheivement, "You Belong With Me," the first award given out Sunday, and said, "I always wondered what it would be like to maybe win one of these someday, but never actually thought it would happen."

But West ruined her moment when he jumped on stage at Radio City Music Hall.

"Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time," he said, as a shocked Beyonce looked on and the crowd began to boo.

A crestfallen Swift didn't finish her speech, but the audience applauded her anyway. She later performed "You Belong With Me" in a subway station for the broadcast.

Swift later got another opportunity to deliver her speech, courtesy of Beyonce, who won video of the year for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)." Beyonce recalled that she won her first VMA at age 17, as a member of Destiny's Child.

"I remember how excited I was," she said. "I'd like Taylor to come out and have her moment."

A smiling but nervous Swift then said, "Can we try this again?" before going on to thank everyone she would have thanked had West not interrupted her.

Later, backstage, Swift said she had never met West and had been a fan. She declined to get into a verbal tussle with West: "I don't know him and I don't want to start anything."

Instead, she praised Beyonce for giving her the stage. "I thought that I couldn't love Beyonce more and then tonight happened and it was just wonderful."

The celebrity crowd was unforgiving of West. When Diddy read West's name later in the show while introducing the nominees for best male video, the crowd booed, and Diddy said in mock surprise, "What happened?"

West commented on the reaction on his blog: "BEYONCE'S VIDEO WAS THE BEST OF THIS DECADE!!!! ... EVERYBODY WANNA BOOOOO ME BUT I'M A FAN OF REAL POP CULTURE!!! NO DISRESPECT BUT WE WATCHIN' THE SHOW AT THE CRIB RIGHT NOW CAUSE ... WELL YOU KNOW!!!! I'M STILL HAPPY FOR TAYLOR!!!!"

Yay we're back!

Anyways.....dang, this was so AMAZING! I loved it! Madonna just made me cry so hard....this speech was really needed, I hope the whole world has and will watch(ed) this and that the haters regret it for the rest of their lives.
Really great that she got so long to do her speech!

Janet....ohmy....what a wonderful tribute. I loved the part where they danced 'together'....man... Was really good how they put those vid's on the huge screen. It made everyone hold their breath and it was just...so STRONG!
And when she looked up at the end I litterally broke down, you go girl!
She did it, her brother must be sooo proud!

i was blown away by madonna and janet tonight, cried like a baby.

i hate kanye, i feel like he's taking the attention away from madonna's incredible speech and janet's amazing performance. everyone should be talking about these two things

Glad the board is back up...that trailer made me tear up again, not as bad as the previous weeks, but man, Michael looked so vibrant and brilliant, the best was truly yet to come. Now we just gotta wait until october 28th. :(

Madonna's speech was beautiful, Janet's performance was beautiful, trailer is beautiful. And they all make me cry hysterically.

Here is a transcript of Madonna's great speech

Madonna Pays Tearful Tribute To Michael Jackson At 2009 VMAs

By Hillary Crosley and Gil Kaufman

The first moments of MTV's Video Music Awards are always memorable, and VMA vet Madonna certainly did not disappoint with a tearful tribute to the late King of Pop.

Walking onto the darkened stage wearing a black zippered jacket and skirt, Madonna said:

"Michael Jackson was born in August, 1958. so was I. Michael Jackson grew up in the suburbs of the Midwest. So did I. Michael Jackson had eight brothers and sisters. So do I. When Michael Jackson was 6 he became a superstar and was perhaps the world's most beloved child. When I was 6 my mother died. I think he got the shorter end of the stick.

"I never had a mother, but he never had a childhood. And when you never get to have something, you become obsessed by it. I spent my childhood searching for my mother figures; sometimes I was successful. But how do you recreate your childhood when you are under the magnifying glass of the world for your entire life?

"There is no question that Michael Jackson was one of the greatest talents the world has ever known. ... That when he sang a song at the ripe old age of 8, he could make you feel like an experienced adult was squeezing your heart with his words. ... That the way he moved had the elegance of Fred Astaire and packed the punch of Muhammad Ali. ... That his music had an extra layer of inexplicable magic that didn't just make you want to dance but actually made you believe that you could fly, dare to dream, be anything that you wanted to be. Because that is what heroes do. And Michael Jackson was a hero.

"He performed in soccer stadiums around the world, he sold hundreds of millions of records, he dined with prime ministers and presidents. Girls fell in love with him, boys fell in love with him, everyone wanted to dance like him, he seemed otherworldly, but he was also a human being. Like most performers, he was shy and plagued with insecurities.

"I can't say we were great friends, but in 1991 I decided I wanted to get to know him better. I asked him out to dinner: I said, 'My treat, I'll drive, just you and me.' He agreed and showed up to my house without any bodyguards. We drove to the restaurant in my car. It was dark out, but he was still wearing sunglasses. I said, 'Michael, I feel like I'm talking to a limousine, do you think you could take off those glasses so I could see your eyes?' He paused for a moment, then he tossed the glasses out the window, looked at me with a wink and a smile and said, 'Can you see me now, is that better?'

"In that moment, I could see both his vulnerability and his charm. The rest of the dinner, I was hell-bent on getting him to eat French fries, drink wine, have dessert and say bad words, things he never seemed to allow himself to do. Later, we went back to my house to watch a movie and we sat on the couch like two kids, and somewhere in the middle of the film, his hand snuck over and held mine. It felt like he was looking for a friend more than a romance and I was happy to oblige him. And in that moment he didn't feel like a superstar, he felt like a human being. We went out a few more times together and then for one reason or another we fell out of touch. Then, the witch hunt began and it seemed like one negative story after the other was coming out about Michael. I felt his pain. I know what it's like to walk down the street and feel like the whole world has turned against you. I know what it's like to feel helpless and unable to defend yourself because the roar of the lynch mob is so loud that you are convinced your voice can never be heard.

"But I had a childhood, and I was allowed to make mistakes and find my own way in the world without the glare of the spotlight. When I first heard that Michael had died I was in London, days away from the opening of my tour. Michael was going to perform in the same venue as me a week later. All I could think about in that moment was that I had abandoned him. That we had abandoned him. That we had allowed this magnificent creature that once set the world on fire to somehow slip through the cracks. While he was trying to build a family and rebuild his career, we were all busy passing judgment. Most of us had turned our backs on him.

"In a desperate attempt to hold onto his memory, I went on the Internet to watch old clips of him dancing and singing on TV and onstage and I thought, 'My God, he was so unique, so original, so rare. And there will never be anyone like him again.' He was a king. But he was also a human being and alas, we are all human beings and sometimes we have to lose things before we can truly appreciate them. I want to end this on a positive note and say that my sons, age 9 and 4, are obsessed with Michael Jackson. There's a whole lot of crotch-grabbing and moonwalking going on in my house, and it seems like a whole new generation of kids has discovered his genius and are bringing him to life again. I hope that wherever Michael is now, he is smiling about this.

"Yes, yes Michael Jackson was a human being, but dammit, he was a king. Long live the king."

Wow! first of all sorry that I'm checking in so late, I've watched the Michael tribute live on MTV I had no idea it would be on tv because I checked teletext and there was nothing to be seen as far that has to do with the VMA's.
The tribute was AMAZING, Madonna's speech had me in tears, but the tribute itself was outstanding! perfection! :clapping:
Madonna said she abandoned Michael and it takes alot of courage to say that so I respect that.
When she said: Michael was a human being god damn it, she was so right!
I have absolute respect for Janet, she did an amazing job and Michael would be so proud of her, well done Janet you were absolutely amazing.
It's a shame it was in the middle of the night here in Holland otherwise I would have probably screamed, danced and sang the whole place down

The trailer looks absolutely amazing, I can't wait to see it, thank you!

I miss him more then ever now, I love you so much Michael forever!
I'll never let you part, for you're always in my heart!

I miss him so much. I cant stop crying. Janet on stage and seeing Michael on the screen was heartbreaking. I love This Is It trailer, the way he moved and his voice.... I cant believe he is gone and this movie will be the last thing we see of him...I have mixed emotions right now about the movie. I want to so bad see it but at the same time I feel like if I watch it then thats it, there will be no more. Oh Michael I love you so much.

haven't had a chance to watch the tribute yet, but just reading the transcript made me cry again. and the trailer is beyond perfect. Michael was perfect, the concerts were meant to be perfect. why, why, why did everything have to end this way? I' still searching for an answer, for some kind of explanation, but I can't find it...

I miss you Michael

The trailer is stunning and yet sad. While watching I couldn't help but cry. His hopes and dreams for this tour ended so abruptly the night Michael was stolen from us. It will be bittersweet watching the film but I will do so for Michael and his vision.

JANETT!!!

Btw- she has a new single out!! It's very Off the Wall meets electro! I'm sure MJ fans will love it!

i cried for the tribute and the trailer, still cant believe he is gone. I have a lot of respect for Madonna and her words too, amazing!

Yay the board is back!
I actually enjoyed a lot of the VMA's. I know Brand wasn't everyone's cup of tea but that English humour really cracks me up. Especially when he was telling the differences from the UK and US and he's like...and we don't let our people die in streets cuz we have free healthcare!! I was like OHHHHHH he just went there!! (here we busted a gut over it...but the crowd was almost silent...) lmao! :D
Madonna was just wonderful...the things she said, made me cry :(
The MJ tribute was amazing....Janet...oh man Mike would be SO proud of her. At the end she almost looked angry, but I think she was trying to hold it together until she got off the stage. She did SO great.. I loved how only Mike was on the screen behind her and she was dancin on the stage...like a dancing duet of sorts...
One of the guys during the Smooth Criminal part... I think his peg didn't come up from the floor cuz he couldn't do the 'lean' with the rest of them!
And why does Kanye West think he can say who should win awards?? He should make his own damned award show then. He wants to be the 'next king of pop'... well sorry but the REAL King Of Pop would never ever disrespect someone like he did. MJ was about professionalism and courtesy...things I don't think that guy ever learned growing up....

And I have no words, to describe the TII trailer....

It was just...

Beautiful :(

It would have been the show of all shows...bigger and better than Dangerous or HIStory shows....And here I didn't think that would ever be possible. Silly me. ;)

It ended like this because the bad side of human nature ruled in the worlds dealings with Michael. Madonna is right when she say that he was abandoned. And people doing the rounds repeating the same lies that they told when he was alive is still not accepting the fact that they did this. They will continue to justify their actions by focusing on their version of him. Deep inside, i think they know they were part of killing him, because no matter what happened in that house- one major contribution to this is the witch hunt he was put through by the media. It made him more vulnerable to people taking advantage of him. Michael should have been given the love he deserved, and the respect he so clearly deserves BEFORE his death. What is given now, is good- because its good for his children to know their father was loved and respected. But if I were them, I know that I would become angry growing up, when understanding everything that has happened.
The look on Janets face when she was performing made me cry. Madonnas speech was heartbreaking, because what she said was so true.
