Unless promotion improves here in the states (especially in my neck of the woods), I fear this album is going to be a bigger flop than Invincible.

The album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 behind Taylor Swift and Susan f*cking Boyle. No air play for Hold My Hand whatsoever, and with the album out almost 2 weeks now, I STILL have not seen it in stores.

This is not good. Sony better pick a good 2nd single (hopefully not Monster) and promote the hell out of it.

I'm starting to get a feeling that Sony doesn't give a crap and wants this album to fail.

As far as I know China (Mainland) does not have an official album chart. Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau are separate Chinese markets where IFPI certifies every unit sold, so their sales numbers are much more reliable. Michael is debuted at No.1 in Taiwan, Hong Kong's overall number not yet out but is No.1 in local HMV's album chart.

It is harder to get real sales numbers in Mainland China, but I am told by a friend living there that Michael is currently No.1 in Amazon China's album chart. I think that could be an idea how well Michael has been selling there, though not fully accurate.

Hollywood Tonight needs to be the next single and released FAST!

Come on Sony! Just get some old MJ clips, put them together for a 4 min video and that is it for Hollywood Tonight/Monster or whatever.

Its been so long since I made a post here or any MJ forum ( I think this is one is the same as MJJFORUM ) this album need a VC and it should be Hollywood Tonight because I don't think that Monster or Breaking News or even Keep your Head Up are MJ voice (I'm MJ fan for more than 20 Years and I know that this is not him )

and I don't think Chinese market is that huge, though there are many people.

many CDs are pirates, frankly speaking.

Piracy is everywhere, but more people means more fans and fans always buy albums so I think that the album will sold very well in China.

that China has big problem with piracy is know. But I don't think piracy is such a big problem worldwide like 10 years ago. else beatles '1' woldnt have sold 31mio in 10 years and Norah Jones Come Away With Me 22mio, acording to

That is my point.. The Beatles and Michael Jackson has huge fanbase and these albums will always sell very well.. But many other artists can't sell 1 mil albums because of piracy. So I think that MICHAEL could be very big in China because there is over a billion people and I hope that many of them are MJ fans..

I think that we know (at least most of us) that these "numbers" are not accurate.

^^Nope I've been to my local Walmart store numerous times since the album's release, and it has not been on the shelf. When I ask about it, they have no clue what I'm talking about.

The day Michael came out, they had 2 copies of the Vision DVD out, which they didn't bother to stock on until the album came out.

As I said, things are looking bad IMO

Great pics from China! :)

Michael is doing well on the official album chart of Finland (#9, what is most important of course) but it has dropped dramatically on iTunes (now #114). HMH is #19 on iTunes and it has dropped out from the official single chart top 20 :( On the OVI chart though, HMH is #10.

Probably the reason for the dropping is that people bought it physical for Xmas gift? Then those people don't buy it digital primarly. I think Finland is also 'advanced' in making your own mp3's from the cd? Another reason could be that people got iTtunes gift certificates for Christmas so they are buying right now some music they wouldn't have been buying otherwise? Logical?

Take That's success looks pretty crazy. But that's how it goes. Success grows success.

The promotion for the album "Michael" looks better in China than in the U.S. :woohoo:
Thanks for sharing. :girl_butterfly:

Where can you find those Hong Kong and Taiwan album charts or do you mean only charts from different supermarkets and music stores? But, this proves Michael is really big in Chinese area. 'Hold My Hand' is #1 on Taiwan's leading radio:

UK album charts with sales:

1 Take That 434,362
2 Rihanna 306,108 (to date: 820,544)
3 Michael Buble 205,770
4 Olly Murs 131,192
5 Michael Jackson 105,001

7 Susan Boyle 101,903
8 Bon Jovi 96,091
9 Black Eyed Peas 95,709
10 Kings Of Leon 88,353

It doesn't look good for MJ - It is strong but .... Look at Buble sales or Rihnanna and can't beleive it.

Take That run in the UK

1st week of sales (UK): 518,601 copies
2nd week of sales (UK): 208,220 copies
3rd week of sales (UK): 176,881 copies
4th week of sales (UK): 203,210 copies
5th week of sales (UK): 330,252 copies
6th week of sales (UK): 434,362 copies
----------------------------------------
= 1,871,526 copies sold in 6 weeks.

Take That will be one of the fastest album of all time to sold 2M copies and the group is on his way to be one of the biggest selling act in UK history.

Amazing for a band with medium pop songs.

Wow, I'm disappointed. This is a Michael Jackson album release and TT and Rihanna are so far ahead...it's just...wrong.

Oh god get OVER IT. Michael Isn't HERE Take That and RiRi ARE... good lord. These numbers are fine.

I think it's not all because of that. It's more because there hasn't been a killer single from 'Michael'. I think if they can wait around two more weeks and keep him in top 10, it is possible to climb with a killer track like 'Hollywood Tonight' or 'Monster', and it should be promoted to clubs.

i can see where your coming from, but postmuous releases by 2pac even went number 1. and well with MJ it's another story arguably the greatest ever to touch a mic, so when he doesn't get a number 1 charting it should raise an eyebrow or 2.
