Michael Jackson Grows Out of Neverland

The days of wine and roses and giraffes and late-night visits from Macaulay Culkin have formally come to an end at Neverland Ranch, the 2,500-acre property that Michael Jackson owned in Santa Ynez, Calif. On Monday Mr. Jackson filed a grant deed that transferred ownership of the property to the Sycamore Valley Ranch Company, The Associated Press reported. According to the report the company is a joint venture between Mr. Jackson and Colony Capital, the real-estate investment company owned by Tom Barrack, which purchased Mr. Jackson’s debt in May when he defaulted on a $24.5 million mortgage on the ranch. Mr. Jackson purchased the ranch and turned it into an amusement park in 1988 but has apparently not lived there in recent years, and it is believed to have fallen into disrepair.

Miley Cyrus Spoofs Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' Video -- Swapping Zombies For Paparazzi

'I needed a serious massage afterward,' she says of 'Fly on the Wall' clip's intense choreography.

281x211.jpg

By Jocelyn Vena

Miley Cyrus might not be dating Nick Jonas anymore, but that doesn't mean their paths don't cross once in a while. For her new "Fly on the Wall" video, the teen star hooked up with Philip Andelman, who also directed the Jonas Brothers' "Lovebug" clip.

"I'm not sure if she did know I directed the ['Lovebug'] video and she didn't mention it on set," he told MTV News of the coincidence. But, the director said, she definitely had a very strong idea of what she wanted in the video. "I was told the song was a soft poke at the paparazzi that Miley is constantly surrounded by and that she was hoping for there to be some choreography in the video."

Cyrus told us the song is about the constant attention she gets, whether she goes to the mall with a new love interest or holds a "sweet 16" bash at Disneyland. " 'Fly on the Wall' is about the media," she said. "It's about how they think they know everything about me, when they don't. They want to be a fly on my wall and watch me 24/7."

The clip spoofs Michael Jackson's classic "Thriller" video, but Andelman said that instead of zombies, everyone turns into Miley's worst nightmare: prying photographers. "I didn't want to do something too serious, as I felt it would come off as her being whiny instead of playful," he said.

"The gist of the concept is that she and her boyfriend are on a date, leaving a movie, when suddenly, he gets overcome by some strange cough," he revealed. "Suddenly, he turns into a paparazzo and begins chasing Miley. Soon, she is backed into a corner with nowhere to turn and the paparazzi approaching, when suddenly, instead of attacking or photographing her, they break into choreography."

Even though Miley Cyrus doesn't do it for me and i'm sick to death of her, I have to admit that I think it's neat that she's doing this Thriller spoof. Anything that puts MJ's influence even more out there I love.

Time for living on 'Life on Mars'

Sam checks himself into the loony bin onLife on Mars -- but it's all in the service of foiling a hostage crisis and keeping captive mental patients alive in 1973, and his own comatose body on life support in 2008. Personally, I'm just fixating on Lisa Bonet in the enormous Afro wig.

The precinct celebrates Ray's birthday by emptying the cells of hookers and filling all the cups with hooch. Annie and Sam are the only ones working, and even they finally give in and end up dancing on a table. Sam wows the crowd of inebriated cops and crooks with some dead-on Michael Jackson dance moves, but he accidentally moonwalks right off the table. No worries -- he's finally starting to make an impression.

The crew gathered around the table chanting "Spaceman! Spaceman!" as Sam copied Michael Jackson circa Thriller was a joy to behold. Even better was when Sam moonwalked right off the table, the popped up after a moment shouting "Who's bad!"

Amid lineup changes, Red Bulls remain energized

Wolyniec scored the final goal to finish the shocking result in Houston, then celebrated with a dance routine from Michael Jackson's Thriller video. "(Shaun Oliver, director of team operations) played Thriller before one of our road games, and we won," Wolyniec says. "So someone thought it would be a good idea to do the dance in celebration. Dave van den Bergh actually did it against Chivas, but Shaun didn't feel it was good enough."

Obama is wonderful, but can we talk about my clothing line now?

MUSIC: Kanye West, the Chicago rapper with an ego the size of Illinois and sales figures that dwarf the Sears Tower, tells Brian Boyd about his Black Panther dad, Obama's victory, why Shrek is his favourite film … and, yes, his album, his fashion business and his burger joint.

By a country mile, West is the most interesting hip-hop artist in the world today. It is not an overestimation to regard his second album, Late Registration (which contained Touch The Sky, Gold Digger and Diamonds From Sierra Leone ) as rap's White Album .
He's an extravagantly talented artist - and he knows it. Modesty is not his strong suit. In 2006, when he lost out on a MTV award, he interrupted the winners while they were making their speech, taking the mic to shout out "this award should have gone to me". Earlier that year, he had posed as Jesus Christ on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. And not in an ironic way.
Other times he makes better use of his public profile. In 2005, he deviated from a speech he was giving at a Hurricane Katrina benefit to say on live TV that "George Bush doesn't care about black people".

He has spoken out about the rampant homophobia in the rap world and - no doubt influenced by his ex-Black Panther father - he once sang about the theory that Ronald Reagan intentionally placed crack cocaine in US ghettoes to kill off Black Panther leaders.
There are only two things he doesn't particularly want to talk about today: the death of his mother (also his manager) a year ago this week, after a plastic surgery operation that went tragically wrong, and the recent end of his 18-month engagement to the designer Alexis Phifer. Everything is on the new album, though: 10 of the 11 tracks are about his break-up with Phifer, one is about his mother.
One other proviso: "If you ask me which I prefer, producing or singing, I will walk straight out of this room." He smiles as he says this. Or at least, his mouth is smiling; his eyes aren't.

"THIS ISN'T A HIP-HOP RECORD. I SING ON ALL THE SONGS. I WANTED A POP ALBUM"
• A distinguishing characteristic of 808s and Heartbreak is the use of the studio software package Auto-Tune. Auto-Tune, used now in most chart hits, gives an artificial sheen to the voice and makes the vocal sound distorted or even robotic-like. It's most widely known use is on the 1998 Cher hit Believe .

"I've called the album 808s and Heartbreak because all the drums on it are produced by the Roland TR-808, which now is a very unfashionable drum machine, but I love the sound you get from it — all the drumming comes out very tribal. The 808 was really big in the 1980s and in the early days of hip-hop."

"The other thing I've done is that all my vocals are with Auto-Tune. A lot of the time in hip-hop music you get samples used from the 1960s or 1970s and the voice is always a bit off-pitch. Auto-Tune gives you perfect pitch. I really wanted to use it because this isn't a hip-hop record - I'm singing on all the songs. I know Auto-Tune is really popular now in pop music and lot of people think it's really wack for a singer to use it, but I wanted to make a pop album.
"I'm already bracing myself for the fact that all people are going to be talking about when the album comes out is Auto-Tune. But I've done something innovative and cutting-edge here so I'll just have to accept it."

"THE MUSIC THAT EXCITED ME GROWING UP WAS BOY GEORGE, MICHAEL JACKSON, PHIL COLLINS"
• Unlike a lot of his contemporaries, West has always talked up his "uncool" pop music preferences. But you do get the impression that, having conquered hip-hop, he might be after Michael Jackson's king-of-pop crown.

"I don't know what hip-hop's problem with pop music is: pop has given us the best musical moments ever. The Beatles were pop. I wanted to use my position as the biggest hip-hop artist around to make a statement on this record. You know, hip-hop now is the most cred thing you can do. And I'm a black guy, and I'm from Chicago, so I have a lot of cred stuff going on for me, but at every step I like to stand back and just get people to open their minds up.

"With fashion, I said, through what I was wearing, that is ok to dress stylishly again. I also said that people shouldn't bash gay people - that we need to be respectful of gay people. And now I want to say: "It's ok to like pop music."
"As little kids, we all listened to pop music - when and why did it become a bad thing? With this album, I've invented a new genre called 'Pop Art', which is not to be confused with the visual art movement. I think I'm producing pop, but in an artistic way.
"To do a pop album I went back and had to think about the pop music that really excited me when I was growing up. Do you know who it was? You'll never guess. It was Boy George and Madonna and Michael Jackson and Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins."

"THE BIGGEST SELLING MOVIE IN ANY GIVEN YEAR IS ALSO MY FAVOURITE MOVIE OF THE YEAR"
• Some musicians like to reference obscure cinematic and literary works - either in lyrics or in interviews. West believes the cultural mainstream is where he truly belongs.
"I am a huge fan of popular culture. I love Walt Disney. Here's all you need to know about my tastes: whatever is the biggest selling movie in any given year is also my favourite movie of the year.
"I loved Shrek . It was a masterpiece. It was art; the drawing was amazing, especially the techniques they used. They really pushed the boundaries there. There is a belief, I think, in society at large and a lot of the time in the hip-hop world, that something popular is necessarily bullshit. There's a real snobbery there. I think that people who think like that are just jealous that they can't create something popular - so they look down on it.

"I remember back at school, the jocks there used to really hate me because I was able to dance. I was also able to play basketball - not as well as them - but they couldn't understand that I could be a guy who could dance and who also could play basketball.
"You get this sort of snobbery also from all those indie guitar bands who look down on pop music. My question to them is: 'Do you not get excited when a song of yours explodes and everyone is listening to it?' Basically what I'm saying is: if you don't like Britney Spears, then you are wrong."

"I ONLY HAVE TWO PASSIONS AND TWO GOALS IN LIFE: MUSIC AND CLOTHES"
• Hip-hop has always been more than just the music. Early pioneers such as the Wu-Tang Clan put as much effort into their "lifestyle" clothing range (Wu-Wear) as into their recording career. It was an idea taken to a multi-million dollar conclusion by P Diddy whose Sean John clothing line now makes more money than his albums.
Says Kanye: "I have this burger restaurant in Chicago called Fatburger. It's like really good food - but still diner food. There's going to be a chain of them. It really doesn't take much time because my business partner does most of the work.
"There was also supposed to be a TV show about me with Larry David (writer of Seinfeld and director and star of Curb Your Enthusiasm ), but I think HBO was going through a lot of stuff when we gave it to them and it didn't get picked up.
"My huge passion now is my clothing line, called Past Tell, which I'm putting all my time into and will be available sometime next year. It's going to be American sports wear, but with Japanese edge. I've set so many fashion trends over the past five years and I want to do it full-time now.
"It will be a mix of Marc Jacobs, Polo and American Apparel. I just need people around me who can produce the stuff. I want to be able to say to someone: 'I want a suit that looks like Raf Simons', and be able to get one done up.
"With the clothing line, I'm really influenced by what the Wu Tang Clan did back in the 1990s. If you could see my room now - I've magazines stacked up to the ceiling and I keep ripping out pages for ideas. The clothing line is an idea from my heart. I only have two passions and two goals in life: music and clothes.
808s and Heartbreak is released next Friday. See www.kanyeuniversecity.com
Bigger than the Beatles
Rap music is known for its big egos, but Kanye West takes self-belief to a new level.
"There's a song on the album called Heartless , which I really love and is going to be the next single - we've already shot the video for it.
"When I have a song I love I really want people to hear it and last week I was at the MTV Europe Awards in Liverpool last week, and Paul McCartney was there. He got up to go and I just kept thinking "he has to hear my song" and I went over to him and I was going: "I know you're Paul McCartney and everything and you used to be in The Beatles but I'd love you to hear my new song. I had to stop him leaving the room. That's what I'm like."

The rapper and the president
A vocal supporter of Barack Obama during his campaign, Kanye West was put out that the promo schedule for his new album meant he was travelling on a plane to Europe when the news broke about Obama's election victory.
"It's just the most unbelievable thing I've ever heard," he says. "I heard on the plane and then we got it confirmed the moment we landed. I was trying everything in the days beforehand to switch flights and work things so I could have made it back to Chicago that night to take part in the celebrations but logistically it just wasn't going to happen."
After Obama's victory, West posted a photo of the president-elect on his blog with the headline: "HI MOM, OBAMA WON!" (West's mother Donda died last November.)
During his campaign, Obama had said that he planned to use rappers Kanye West and Jay-Z to educate the US public and bridge the generation gap if elected.
"I've met with Jay-Z. I've met with Kanye. And I've talked to other artists about how potentially to bridge that gap."

Though we asked West about the Obama victory and its implications for the US and for the two men's home city of Chicago, he had little to say on the matter, other than: "I still find it unbelievable."
It's hard not to think that the musician's ultimate view on Obama may be that the election only distracted Americans from a far more important event: the release of Kanye West's new album.

Re: November 14-16, 2008 News and Mentionings

On Monday, I told all of you that there was a special on the network TV One called "100 Black powerful influence that shaped black America. I told you that Michael should be on this list. And yes, Michael was on the list. He was number 10. This was great in all the others he beat out. His Thriller album, being the first black to be played on MTV, and becoming the best entertainer that famous reach skyhight put him on the list. If you can watch it again, try to see it. The photos were GREAT that they featured on him.

Re: November 14-16, 2008 News and Mentionings

Thanks to mello, marie and terrel for the news.

Oh lawd... Kanye.... let me say this first -

The days of wine and roses and giraffes and late-night visits from Macaulay Culkin have formally come to an end at Neverland Ranch, the 2,500-acre property that Michael Jackson owned in Santa Ynez, Calif.

Shut up, New York Times! Just shut up!! Fools. There is nothing wrong with some wine in the late night. Nothing. These clowns make it seem as though MJ was still doing theese things. LOL. That man has not lived in that place in three years and who knows when the last time MJ even chatted with Mac. (That is not a question and please don't answer it. I was just saying.) Blah. Just another shitty newspaper hating.

Back to Kanye - alright, I read the whole thing and I wanted him to just stop talking. I adore Kanye, but damn. First of all, if Kanye was trying to do something innovative, fine. However, it has to be something that has not been done before and what he has been doing has been done before. I did like what he said about pop music, from back in the day. Because, let's face it, pop music from that time was off the chain awesome. Kanye is a fellow Phil Collins fan. Man, I love me some Phil Collins. Don't get me started on singing his classics. Whew..... Kanye wants to create pop art - that has already been done and I know he stated that as such, but still. Over all, just another self absorbed article on Kanye. I have to admit, I was laughing and saying "shut up, Kanye" all at the same time. LOL. I am gonna try to get his cd.

Rowe filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, on October 8, 1999.

I remembered that day very well. I wasn't shocked by the news. LOL. I was happy for Michael that day.

He was number 10

That is a really good number. Considering there were so many black people who are powerful and influencial.

Let me just add that there is a thread on the Jackson Family forum regarding Vanity Fair (you are not reading things, I typed Vanity Fair) article or feature they are doing on Motown. It is about the Jackson 5 and it was an awesome read.

Now, with Miley Cyrus - *sigh* man, I am tired of the kid, but you know what? I am glad she did her little tribute to Thriller. :)

JACKSON SELLS NEVERLAND RANCH FOR $35 MILLION

Michael Jackson has sold Neverland Ranch to a Delaware-based corporation for approximately $35 million, although the King of Pop retains an interest in the property.

The infamous property north of Los Olivos in Santa Barbara County was transferred from Jackson to Sycamore Valley Ranch Company LLC, which formed in mid-July, according to documents from the county assessor’s office.

Sycamore is a joint venture between Jackson and an affiliate of Colony Capital Inc., a Los Angeles-based company that purchased the entertainer’s $24.5 million mortgage on the property in May, according to a source close to the deal.

The pop star’s private amusement park and home at 5225 Figueroa Mountain Road opened in 1988 and consisted of 2,800 acres. Prior to that, it was a working cattle ranch owned by Bill Bone, a developer who has his own connections to Colony Capital.

A notice of default from a San Francisco title company was served in November 2007 suggesting that Jackson’s ownership of the ranch could be at risk. And a foreclosure auction in May was canceled after Colony Capital LLC purchased the multi-million loan.

Jackson has struggled to pay his debts in recent years after his financial empire crumbled following his arrest in 2003 on child-molestation charges. A jury later acquitted him and he reportedly hasn’t lived at Neverland for the past two years.

AKON CALLS JACKSON A ‘GENIUS’

In an interview to IGN Music, singer Akon had to answer a question about what it was like working with Michael Jackson:

IGN Music: One last thing, and I’m sure you’ve been asked this a million times, but what was it like working with Michael Jackson?

Akon: Aw, man, that was a blessing. Literally. I learned so much just from a conversation with him. He is a genius, man, I mean like literally. I can understand his success just by having a basic conversation with him. I can see why he was so big and why he is a legend today and will always have an impact when it comes to the pop world because of his contributions. It’s just so crazy because sometimes you never really know what’s in the person’s mind until you have a basic, every day, heart-to-heart conversation with them. You know what I mean?

Thanks for the news and I hope you guys have a nice weekend!

Re: November 14-16, 2008 News and Mentionings

I love Kanye's interviews. I think people have the wrong idea about him and he just runs with it. He probably gets up from interviews and cracks himself up cuz he KNOWS the reaction he's going to get about the ego thing. And ppl fall for his trap everytime, imho. It's kinda fun to watch.
I have to agree with him about the Obama thing. I think it will finally sink in for me when he's actually inaugurated.

Miley Cyrus gets a gold star for the Thriller tribute.

Thanks to all for the news and mentionings. :flowers: Happy Weekend ppl! :punk:

Holly Bradley, of Barmby Moor, who is to audition for Britain’s Got Talent

Holly’s got talent

SIMON Cowell won’t know what hit him when Holly Bradley auditions for the show Britain’s Got Talent.

For Holly, 22, from Barmby Moor, is heading to Manchester later this month to wow the music mogul and television’s Mr Nasty with her Michael Jackson moves, hoping to prove she is a Thriller rather than plain Bad.

Holly, who lives in West End, has been fascinated with Michael Jackson for the last six years and knows all of ***** *****’s dance floor moves off by heart, including the famous moonwalk, and also owns several copies of his costumes.

Holly, who has Down’s syndrome, even teaches entertainment staff at the hotel she stays at when she and her sister, Michelle, go on holiday to Tunisia. She said she had been getting plenty of practice in, particularly to her favourite Michael Jackson song – Billie Jean.

Her mum, Christine, said it had been Michelle who had sent the audition tapes off to Britain’s Got Talent and they then got a letter inviting them to audition – but only on the proviso that they agree to be filmed.

Christine said: “I didn’t know anything about it but Holly taught herself all the dance moves. It’s her favourite thing, she is absolutely brilliant at it and she just adores Michael Jackson.”

Simon Cowell had better watch out too, because Christine said Holly also loves him.

Christine said: “She adores him as well and will probably be giving him a kiss.”

Holly’s talent was spotted by Julia Gregory, her former drama teacher at Kings Mill School.

Christine said Julia had told her: “It’s a great breakthrough for people with special needs as people think they can’t do anything but these kids can do things.

Christine added: “She might not win but it’s an experience for her to show people what she can do.”

The day in Manchester on November 25 will be a family affair as Holly will be accompanied by her mum, sister and niece – but it will be Christine suffering from nerves rather than Holly.

“There will be no problem for her,” she said. “Holly is not a bit frightened, she will go on any stage.”

Hey EM, if you find out more about that trial, please let us know. I think this is the main and last real hurdle for MJ to cross if he wants to start distributing his music again. Thanks!

Re: November 14-16, 2008 News and Mentionings

The fact that they want him to pay back all that money for letting him stay over there is just over the top IMO because they were supposed to be friends. That's what doesn't make sense to me. But (God forbid) if he loses, they should have to give him time to pay it back. With everything he's doing, even paying a judgment would take time.

i dont beleive that would stand up in court because you would have to prove that mj agreed to record the song before he even left for bahrain. and considering mj left for bahrain within a week or so after the trial there is no way mj went there after agreeing to record the song. jermaine stated in inteviews and maybe the bahrain lot aswell that mj was invited there to rest/relax. the prince is being gready because his only claim would be for expenses after the time mj agreed to do the song. so say it was 6 months after he and the kids arrived he would only be able to claim money for the time after 6 months and onwards. the princes argument is obviously based on the fact that he only offered mj a place to stay and paid for everything because mj agreed to do the song.when mj didnt do the song he wanted his money back. but money is only due from the time mj agreed to do the song. and imo unless theres some kinda contract saying im paying for all this on the agreement you do the song then i cant see it standing up because its nothing more than good faith in accepting the hospitality. you dont expect strings to be attached especially when the first offer of hospitiality was based around helping you get away after the case which is easy to prove. it smacks of someone taking advantange and being gready.
