Katherine Jackson Speaks Out: Life After Michael Jackson

Late Pop Star's Mother Talks About Lawsuits and Raising Michael's Children
She is the matriarch of a music dynasty.

Katherine Jackson who buried her most-famous son pop singer Michael Jackson almost two years ago, has been front and center since his death.

Now she's speaking out about dealing with court cases related to her son's death, lawsuits and how the family is trying to move on.

Michael Jackson died June 25, 2009 after being administered a lethal dose of propofol, a powerful intravenous sedative.

His personal doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray, is accused of killing the pop legend by allegedly administering an overdose of intravenous and prescription drugs.

Since her son's death, Katherine has been raising his three children and is a constant presence in court.

"It's been a difficult time for me ever since my son passed," said Katherine Jackson. "When I'm in that courtroom I can't stand to look at that man [Murray]…and I go because I love my son...I just feel I have to be there. It's the same way when they was accusing him of molesting, molestation…I was there every day."

Reports have said Murray attempted to hide evidence and delayed calling 911 as Jackson lay dying.

Murray's attorneys have said the doctor did nothing to cause Jackson's death.

Murray faces trial on involuntary manslaughter charges, and is expected to make an appearance in Los Angeles Superior Court today.

Dealing with Lawsuits
In addition to the case against Murray, Katherine is dealing with a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by the singer's estate, according to the Associated Press.

Her son's estate is suing Howard Mann, who runs a website that features Michael Jackson's music, video and a book Katherine is writing about Michael's life.

The lawyers representing Jackson's estate released the following statement to ABC News on the lawsuit:

"The Estate of Michael Jackson has filed suit against Howard Mann and his company to bring a stop to the unlawful use of Michael's name and likeness. The Estate had hoped Mann would voluntarily cease his conduct but that was not to be. People who trade off of Michael's personality, copyrights, and trademarks should not be allowed to exploit the legacy of one of the world's most recognized talents for their own benefit. Protecting and preserving Michael's assets are a core responsibility of the Estate and we will do everything the law permits to enforce those rights."

ABC News has licensed the video Katherine and her business partner Howard Mann have produced in response to the lawsuit.

"As far as the estate suing Howard Mann, my feeling is when they're suing Howard Mann they're suing me…because I authorized the book," Katherine said.

Howard Mann said Katherine has gone through a difficult time.

"It's not just obviously the lawsuit filed against us, she's obviously going through a criminal trial towards as to the wrongful death of her son, the litigation with AEG, I think there's a lot of compound pressure right now," Mann said.

Raising Michael Jackson's Children
Amidst all of this, Katherine is talking for the first time about how different it is raising children in your 20s than in your 80s.

"Michael's children are good children, and he raised them out of love and understanding, " Katherine said. "I don't have a hard time with them, because they know what, how their father had them raised, and their very respectful and also it's a difference today."

But knowing what she knows now about kids in show business she said she would take a different approach in letting them get involved with the entertainment industry.

"I wouldn't let (them) go into business at this early of age, like Paris wants to be an actress…and I don't think Michael would have let her," she said. "He talked about he didn't have a childhood, he wanted to be more...play more."

May God give her the strenght she needs to live and fight for her son and her grandchildren. It's hard to believe she is going through all this, at this age, at this time... ahhh, man.... this is so wrong :no:
 
I wonder if Howard Mann has threatened her with a lawsuit yet if the estate wins against him.
 
Well I feel bad for Katherine but now she knows what her son went through every day of his life.. lawsuits, allegations and all kinds of bullcrap from the media, his family and associates. So can she see now why he couldn't sleep?

I think Katherine feels guilty with the way her kids were raised. I think for Michael's sake and desires she wants to keep those kids as far from the limelight as possible.

Someone one just saying on facebook how cool it would be if Paris was the next "Disney Star" like Selena Gomez, Demi Lavato or Miley Cyrus.

Let Paris have her childhood for god sakes.

I think she feels guilty too... Her golden child is dead and unfortunately her and her husband played a major role in MJ's success and downfalls. Mike was a good man but he needed a strong family support that would protect him from the crooks and charlatans who wanted to take advantage of him. Unfortunately his mother is 80 years old and she still doesn't know any better because Howard Mann is a crook and a charlatan.

I agree 100% with what you said. Like Joe, Katherine is also at fault with the way her son's and daughters have become. Michael's death really shook her and so she doesn't want to raise his three kids the same way.

What a shame. I wish Michael had a chance but he never did :(

I can't stand to look at Murray either to be honest. I feel sick. I like what she says about how Michael raised his kids. He did a great job with them and deserves to have that credit.
 
Well good to know the kids will enjoy their childhood at least for now! And when they get older if it's their decision they will go into the industry!?

But, being in business with Howard Mann isn't good, I hope she will soon finally realize that?! If only their was a way they can get their stuff back without those losers having their things!? SMH
 
Katherine Jackson needs to stop playing a businesswoman at age of eighty. She should enjoy her age and grandchildren. She got herself into very complex business deals, getting out of it is not going to be easy for her, and that interview is not going to help her at all. If Mann goes down, he is going to drag her with him. That part scares me the most, she is too old for all this drama and stress in midst of MJJ's manslaughter trial. God help her!

It's her own fault if her greed hadn't come in the way she could have been enjoying whatever life she's got with a generous of monthly allowance, in addition to having several employees. It's not like she has to get up, cook, and wash herself. Yet she couldn't stop herself, and went just right ahead into business with the porn guy, which reasonable person does this? Which grieving mother binds minor children to a porn guy? Mann will go down and he will drag her with him, and it's totally her fault. Of course it's hard for her now that Michael is gone, there is no unlimited amount of money coming in for dozens of lazy people to leech of, anymore.
There is no doubt in my mind that she loved him, but she loved to use him as her source of income just as much, do everything she could to put more pressure onto Michael, make him tour with his senior brothers. Like any of his brothers would have been in the position to tour with him (I saw their pitiful 'rehearsal' in that sad reality show and it was ridiculous). Look how out of shape they are. She needs to sit back and actually think about what she is doing, disrespecting his wishes is one thing, but binding his own children to some porn crook is a whole other and inexcusable. So just because she doesn't let paris join movies now doesn't mean she is not exploiting her (and the boys), she clearly is by including them into her contract with her porn bff. At the ages of 13/12 and 8 she has got them on Oprah and signing some tacky belts for her porn bff. What will happen once Michael's kids are legal? Is Mann going to produce Paris' first 'motion picture' with the blessings of Katherine? Cuz this is exactly where all this is heading, everyone knows to keep away minor children from pornographers yet this woman is binding them to one legally. I'm really curious to see what happens to this Jackson family after Katherine's departure (which won't be soon hopefully), it looks as if welfare is where they're going to end up.

I used to sympathize a lot of with this woman, but after her recent antics, not only am I disappointed but disgusted by her.

^^^^^that interview oh my, i mean its true ppl write books about michael all the time but they dont use MJs own drewings in a book they created with a pornguy to sell the book.

katherine doesnt seem to understand the problem in getting into buisness with howard mann and as long as she doesnt see the wrong with it, she will keep on doing crazy stuff like this..

ps, some anti-estate fans that are apparantly close to randy jackson say something will happen around may and june.. i guess we are gonna hear one of randys stints.. watch out for more damn drama

Generous? I know people who make more than half a million a year and don't have a house and 3 children to look after. And half a million is what she's getting. How much do you think John Branca is getting?

I dont know a part doesnt think it all her fault, its mostly joesph. I think hes whispereing in her ear telling her to do this & that etc.
 
Someone need to tell mrs KJ that mj would not approve,
She need to listen to mj estate people and stop making deal out side of mj estate with all those shady people.
Why can't she live on what she is getting from mj estate she is coming off insensitive to mj debts that the estate need to pay off.
The estate know has to spend unnesseary money to fight off she and a theft money that could go to the debt repayment,
Come on. Mother Jackson stop doing business and do what your son ask of you look after his children and relax at home just stay out of it and don't let it come to mj estate suing you too.
 
The focus should be on the children alone.... not any business deals with snakes at such an advanced age. ...

It does have to be horrible being in that courtroom seeing a remorseless... person like Murray and hearing all the graphic technicalities and the shameless defense for one who took an innocent person, her son to an early grave. She was there for her son every day during the sick prelims and the 2005 trial, it must be horrifying to survive all this. Therefore, she should understand how greedy people are and how they destroyed and betrayed Michael for the longest, business partners in this case. At 80, all everyone should do is be grandparents since they have them, and relax, have some fun, especially if they got the money to enjoy it. That is what Michael wanted all along, for the family to be family to him, that's all, for children to be children and have a childhood, Unlike him, and that his treasures for whom he lived, his 3 children, get the best upbringing and education, the children need her..... Hope she will live long, all this stress is horrible for her, and she is obviously being brainwashed by the likes of Mann.....

First of all the Estate is in probate
The woman is getting 26k per month including to over 100k for the kids monthly, in addition the fact that everything is paid for, she doesn't need to pay employees or buy groceries with the money she is getting. and YES it is generous, The estate is not here for her to give money to her lazy grown adult grandchildren and deadbeat sons, period. She want's to get a million of dollars so she can go and distribute it among her tribe, that's NOT how it works. She should ask JEhova why Michael didn't leave her more.

She's been getting a pass for decades because people always felt it was Joseph, her greed is just as unlimited as his. All this is shown by her actions.

I agree!

Katherine's actions have spoken VERY LOUDLY since the passing of her dear son.

In my opinion, the finger can not be pointed at only Joe Jackson any longer, because Katherine "appears" to be just as greedy as Joe is.

She said recently that "it's not greed, it's need." I'm not sure how she can say that because she does look greedy, taking money from the Estate, AND setting up illegal side deals with some porn guy, doesn't make her look good at all.

Oh and somebody also needs to tell her the the majority of Michael's fans have no interested in purchasing any items from Howard Mann's website. We don't like him and will not be sending him our money. LOL!

More specially, I think Katherine falls more into 'Mother Hen'.

Namely, she thinks as her entire family as an unit instead of individuals and she wants to take care of the entire family. The money that the estate is given her is not enough to meet that end and she can no longer guilt Michael into helping her.

She wants to take care of all of her children instead of letting them fend for themselves and grow up. It's of no surprise that all the first generation of Jackson, besides Rebbie, seemed to act like children. Just look at their reality show when they ran to their mother to solve their issues instead of actually talking it out. Quite frankly, most of those her children never had to grow up which is why they act so immature and irresponsibility.

This was all well and good when all her kids were alive, but now she had to think of the grandchildren she's raising now. Katherine needs to let her own children grow up and stop babying them. She owes it to Michael's kids. This isn't just about her anymore.
 
I agree... and if Katherine was going to baby a child of hers it should've been Michael since he was the one supporting her. She should've made sure her son was healthy and happy. I still don't understand how she wasn't aware that her son was so sleep deprived that he was willing to under go insane procedures for sleep. How does his mother not know that?
 
At the end of the day he “supposedly” left his mother wit his kids I never will trust that “will” that’s my own opinion but anyway she entitle I guess to raised them how ever she feels like it sense she is their legal guardian many come for her head its nothing we all can’t do Mrs. Jackson is going to do things her way so how Michael raised them doesn’t matter at this point witch is sad whatever happens to Mrs.Jackson and Diana Ross takes care of them its going to be her way as well just deal with it

For one, no mother knows everything about their child and I doubt Michael would had told her. Also, millions of Americans and people worldwide suffers from some form of sleep problem, so even if she did know she could hardly know the extent unless she asked.

Two, Michael was healthy and happy during his last days and that has nothing to do with why he was killed. So, this point is as moot as it comes.

And my final point, Katherine did baby Michael. She kept his room up and refused to let anyone move into it because she wanted Michael to return home one day. There are words from Jermaine's ex-wife book. She also excused Michael's behavior by blaming his handlers for everything. Like keeping him for his family and 'abandoning' him in 2005. If Michael allowed it, Katherine would had treating him like the rest of her children and rob him of any responsibility.

You are only taken advantage of if you allow it to happen. Katherine is not stupid or at least she shouldn't be. She and her family have been in the business for over 50 years. They know from years of experience that there are plenty of lying and stealing charlatans and snakes out there that are looking to prey. They will only prey if you allow them too. I said the same thing about Michael too.. Mike had been hurt and burned too many times for him to be so naive. He obviously continued to be that way, trusting some shady @ss doctor to give him IV anesthesia at home and unfortunately it cost him his life.
