I once had a dream about a Smooth Criminal version with Gonzo from the Muppet Show, it was so great! :D

Now, that’s something I’d really love to see! :D

Michael was a fan of sesame street. i'm not sure who his favorite characters were but i know he loved elmo and oscar.

Talking about Muppets:

If we couldn’t get a celebrity, the Muppets’ [creators] would build a copy of them. They made The Beetles, a band of puppets with antennae.

Spinney
There was a lawsuit because [the 1979 spoof] “Letter B” was too close to “Let It Be.”

One day I got a letter with a $5 million lawsuit by way of Northern Songs, The Beatles’ publisher. The Workshop was quite nervous about it — and understandably so. We also had [1982’s] “Hey Food,” a parody of “Hey Jude,” in which Cookie Monster sang. Eventually, Michael Jackson bought the catalog and settled the case for $50. Somewhere, I have that $50 canceled check with Michael’s endorsement.

:clapping:

:lmao: @ Letter B and Hey Food. Fortunately both can be found on youtube. :D

$5 million lawsuit
...
settled the case for $50

Suing a kid's program for doing a parody of a song (obviously out of appreciation) seems going a bit overboard even in show business, I think MJ did the right thing, and in what a clever and funny way! :D

Actually I can understand if some artists aren't too happy with parodies, but I'm glad MJ took them lightly (and with a big laugh I guess. I assume the Beatles members didn't mind these performances either).

BTW I didn't know about this story, and as it turns out MJ did quite a lot of similar things we rarely hear about, but stories are resurfacing here and there. Obviously he also had this shrewd businessman side at the same time, but it would be nice if more stories of this lighter "behind the scenes" side of him started to appear in MSM.

Michael had a sense of humor when it came to somethings. i'm glad he let it go. i think that also what i miss about it him. may he rest in peace.

The history of the Muppets & Sesame Street and their Beatles parodies goes way back to Michael’s childhood. For example this one which first aired in 1969 – just a year or so after the original Beatles song was released. :D

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hEq8vwikXps" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

So, I&#8217;m sure Michael has seen and enjoyed this when it came out, and I can only imagine how absurd it later seemed to him that someone would sue for millions over things like these which do nobody any harm. If anything, more Beatles records were being sold because of Sesame Street and the Muppets.

I know that when I was very little, I was convinced that the Beatles had sung this Sesame Street song, not the other way round, which is one of the reasons I started listening to the Beatles. Couldn&#8217;t go wrong with a band that loved Sesame Street just like I did, right? ;)

This is also never mentioned by the people who claim that MJ had handled the Beatles catalogue poorly.

the beatles should of been happy. if wasn't for this. more and more artists wouldn't have parodies to their songs and guest stars to the show. but Michael knew. ;)

 Come to think about it, maybe my love for Diana Ross was already determined in my childhood, watching her being kind to Fozzie Bear unlike the others who were always making fun of him? :D

 I so wish he did more acting.

Oh, I totally forgot about that! Time to re-watch all that old stuff, I guess. :D

Yeah, I read in a very old interview &#8211; from around 1971, I think &#8211; that he wanted to be an actor even back then. How frustrating it must have been to not get a real chance to explore this field more.

Michael want it to act more sadly due to his music career and tours he didn't have enough time to act. he did want it to do movies the last years of his life.

Who’s bad?

Love this so much. He covered more MJ songs but Bad is the absolute best IMO.

Pretty sure The Beatles could not have cared less. It was the publishing company who sued, not the band.

LOL - I like its 80s vibe

I'm strangely thorn about this version, haha, I like the 80s vibe too, and especially the part from 3:20, not sure about the key changes, and sort of offended it's done to SIM. Thanks for the mixed feelings! :D

Thanks! I think I&#8217;ve seen some of his videos before. He&#8217;s amazing. :)

It&#8217;s worth noting that Steinway & Sons explicitly hashtagged their tweet with #MichaelJackson. :)

Brand new heavy metal cover of We Are The World. :punk:

Sounds really good! Lots of amazing voices too and overall committed performances (first I thought it would be a "genre bending exercise", but it's a serious take on the message).

I really enjoy these multi-collaborations. :)

Yup, the metal community has a lot of respect for MJ & his work. At least from my experience. I have never met anyone who talked BS about him. :)

In other news, here&#8217;s something to watch on YouTube tonight. :)

Oh I didn't mean the "gender bending thing" in a bad sense (maybe I chose the wrong expression), it can be very clever, funny, sometimes even educational (the 80's style SIM mix was sort of like that). I just expected something like that initially but it quickly turned out to be a gathering of a lot of singers who gave their all (very heavy metal characteristic :D). I think their song choice is more about its message than MJ specifically, but that's even better as it proves it's universal.

Today's Katherine Jacksons 90th birthday. Happy Birthday Mrs. Jackson!

This is just too good to be buried in the Coronavirus thread. Please share the hell out of this on all your social media accounts.

The reason why some threads are like they are is for reasons. I don't think nothing wrong sharing it also here as well.
