Is this not competence of the executors?

I do not know as yet not from whom TMZ has the documents....
Definitely not from Mr. Branca.
He had to give them to the court for the Murray process.

Also Michael's mother is in the possession of these sealed documents.
It is possible that they were stolen by her for short time, to make copies.

Probate documents are a matter of public records. Anyone can obtain them.

I don't think TMZ is the one that did the calculations. They refer to "documents filed", there was a probate hearing today - I posted probate notes from it, some financial information was filed yesterday. So I think that TMZ was reporting from those.

Of course TMZ didn't do the calculations. They are using the figures from the court filings and trying (badly) to analyze them.

I wouldn't also blame Estate for using a simplistic approach to valuation.

I am talking about TMZ here. The estate is only filing documents as required by probate. It is TMZ that has taken the figures and proclaimed that they mean the catalog was worthless. That's kind of silly when market forces could have netted Michael far more than $300 million had he chosen to sell the catalog, but that's TMZ's kind of drama.

It's reminiscent of the trial, when the prosecution tried to make Michael out as a flight risk because of his supposedly overwhelming debt load. They did this by using the purchase prices of his assets, from up to 15 years before, when the assets in question had doubled or even tripled in that time. They were real figures, but the interpretation was a joke.

It's reminiscent of the trial, when the prosecution tried to make Michael out as a flight risk because of his supposedly overwhelming debt load. They did this by using the purchase prices of his assets, from up to 15 years before, when the assets in question had doubled or even tripled in that time. They were real figures, but the interpretation was a joke.
