"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

The best way to remember this kind of thing is "If the shooting for a film takes 6 months, everything else will take at least another year."
I'm familiar with the timescale of a film production so this post production phase that we're in just now is not surprising to me at all.

Accepting this helps you relax, and keep your more extreme expectations at a healthy level.
I think something got 'lost in translation', lol. :)

I don't have any extreme expectations about the biopic. Of all the people in this thread my expectations are probably the lowest bc I'm not planning on watching this thing. I'm interested in the project bc anything to do with Michael is interesting to me. I do want to watch Colman Domingo - I think he's amazing - but since the scenes involving him are likely to be upsetting I probably won't. I'll probably watch the trailer. After that, I'll just have to see how I feel about it.

I think the film will do very well. It doesn't matter whether I see it or not. I just want it to be a good product.

Whether you like the movie or not, you will surely agree it will be magic to hear Michael´s music out loud on the big screen, woun´t it? And with the movie being longer than an average movie, this will be a treat wi will most likely never experience again.

I went to the cinema a few times over the summer and heard Smooth Criminal several times. Ngl, it was freakin' awesome hearing it blasting out that loud. 😲

No trailer! Just a promo event in China. Presumably this is the same type of event as CinemaCon back in April.

🤨huh?

I posted that stuff from the promo event in China bc I remember there was a convo a while back suggesting that China probably wouldn't be interested in the film. I might be misremembering but I'm pretty sure there was a suggestion that maybe the biopic wouldn't find an audience in China. So I posted this bc it shows that Lionsgate are clearly trying to sell the thing over there. Which is cool. I'm assuming it will only play in the big urban centres but that's normal. I wouldn't expect it to get the same distribution it will get in the US.

In a ceremony worthy of the big stars, Universal Pictures unveiled in China its ambitious campaign for " Michael ", the biopic of the legendary Michael Jackson . With a world premiere scheduled for April 18, 2024, the event held in Beijing marks the beginning of one of Hollywood's biggest bets on the Chinese market.
The studio promises a millionaire campaign, with unprecedented investments and promotions, aiming for a return that can exceed the billions. China, which already counts Jackson among its icons, is more than prepared to receive the King of Pop with all the fervor.
Michael Jackson's appeal in China is a cultural phenomenon. Among legends and symbols, the artist immortalized himself in statues and murals across the country, consolidating his image as the greatest foreign star of all time for the Chinese public. Today, there are more than nine monuments in honor of the King of Pop in Chinese cities, confirming the importance and affection dedicated to him.
Universal Pictures plans a campaign to match the Michael Jackson phenomenon. Marketing strategies include exclusive releases on Chinese platforms, such as behind-the-scenes videos, interviews, and special appearances by the film's crew. The entire effort aims not only to reach veteran fans, but also to attract a new generation curious to find out who was the man behind the eternal hits. For the studio, the biopic represents more than a potential success: it is a celebration of the power of music and spectacle.
With this millionaire bet, the studio aims at the untapped potential of the Chinese market, where Michael Jackson is as popular as national icons. According to film analysts, the public's familiarity with the figure of Jackson, widely worshipped in the country, could result in an extraordinary box office.
Under the direction of Antoine Fuqua , the feature promises a deep and detailed look at the life of the King of Pop. Jaafar Jackson , Michael's nephew and son of Jermaine Jackson, a member of The Jacksons 5, will be responsible for playing the protagonist.

oh, this is what I'm talking about! 🥳

I've said this before but I'll say it again—this movie is THE release I'm looking forward to most next year. There's a lot of cool stuff coming out (more so on the gaming and television front) but this is still the thing that I'm excited for the most, and that's not even talking about the possibiity of new music coming out as well. Next year is gonna be insane for MJ fans.

Off topic but I think it’s happening because the movie is coming up soon. I have noticed the NFL is using MJ’s music while breaking to commercial
Here is Salif Gueye and Victoria Dauberville. They did this MJ/PYT performance several times at the Olympics this summer. Now they are doing it at the Ballon D'Or ceremony (mind you, the football fans are complaining, lol).

With the press conference in China, that first trailer/teaser MUST be dropping over the coming days/weeks, right?

The wrong thread for sure but how good does the Thriller sign look at the Palace Theatre.

Did anyone on here attend? Looks like it was a fantastic night.

Wonder if MJfangirl is ever on here? Also love German in Venice.
