Madonna`s speech @ Hall of Fame *MJ related*

Re: Madonna Rock "N" Roll Hall of Fame (MJ Related)

I find the posts in this thread really disrespectful. I'm a Madonna fan, and yes, she has talent. Just because you don't appreciate an artist doesn't mean that everybody shares your opinion.

Anyway, who cares what Madonna said? They're musical rivals, just like Prince and Michael are musical rivals, and she was bound to say something like this. Give it a rest, it's not that important.

Musical rivals? are you kidding? Madonna's rival could be someone like Mariah Carey, Prince or Celine Dion but in no way Michael, he's from another level. Actually Mike's rivals are dead, it could have been The Beatles or Elvis "The Big Three" but still MJ is a little over them.

Madonna is an icon, everybody like her at some different point, it's just sometimes she says thing that doesn't make sense

Michael is an icon, too. Yes, he has loads of talent, but he's also known for wearing a white glove, donning a fedora, and doing the moonwalk. I wouldn't say that Madonna is more iconic than Michael; they both have popculture trends that apply to them.

And Madonna is Michael's rival, since they were both popular around the same era ('80s), and they've sold millions of records and are still just as popular today. Elvis and The Beatles were part of a different popculture, so they're not rivals of Michael at all.

Listen, there are celebrities, stars, supertars and then there is Michael Jackson. The guy is the best selling artist of ALL TIME he sold more than Elvis or The Beatles. Madonna is way far behind. Michael Jackson was a superstar while he was performing with the Jackson 5 two decades before Madonna and Prince. ABC song sold out Let it be song from the Billboard hot 100 !!!!

Madonna is an icon for sure but she's not legendary such as Elvis or Jackson

Frankly, I found the speech a bit boring, the attempts at humour flat, but then again, this is Madonna. She got inducted, yeah for her.....I've never been a fan of hers (there was just another artist around at that time who was the be all and end all for me artist-wise) she's done what she felt she had to do to achieve fame all these years, good and bad, but the woman is still in the game and doing her thing.

There was no need for the mocking tone she took when she said Michael's name, but whatever......it will take more than that from Madonna to upset me.

Next!.....

Ooh her accent's all American again

It's one thing recalling the past - but she's being gleeful about her drug use, her scheming. Where's the art?

I say this as someone who's been a fan of Madonna. I don't like this new re-invention - nor 4 Minutes.

(And Justin's little Britney jibe was just as distasteful. The Jackson family would never that disrespectful or vulgar).

Ok I've watched that speech and in my opinion it's all ok.
Somehow I think it was nice to mention him and I don't have a problem with how she said it, also it was a bit silly but I think the change of voice in saying Michael Jackson was just referring to that her 'inner voice' was answering.
The whole context only says: the time I started to get big Michael Jackson was the absolute top and that's where I absoluted wanted to be also one day.

That's how I got it.

To get this defensive about this tiny part of her speech... I don't know but it could leave the suspect Michael fans are kind of jealous cuz Madonna is still out there, still spoiling fans with tours and new records (whatever one thinks about her work or herself as a person).

And please no this is not an attack on anyone who posted here... but very much the way one could overinterprete what's posted here same way some overinterprete the way Madonna mentioned Michael.

actually, Mechi, i have no problem with how MJ is not spoiling his fans...it keeps him from being overexposed, as you used the word 'spoil' to describe the fans of Madonna...lol:)

lol you have to forgive me at times I'm having a hard time with finding the right words cuz I'm not an english native.
Somehow I was more thinking of a 'spoiled brat' (spelling? sorry lol) those kids who get not only what they want or need but even more.
When Madonna comes out with whatever... if it's a book, a new toy, a perfume or even music, a tour etc. well whatever it's hard to escape it. She's perfect in doing so or her mashinery is perfect in doing so when started and for her that's for sure good.

But when it's about me personally, and I do like her in some ways and I do like her music in some ways... but it's really annoying, I want to decide what I let in my life. It's nice if you get an offer! But when it's more like jumping into your face wherever you try to hide your face from it maybe... well that's a part of Madonna I just don't really like... it's too much Madonna at times.

If people were to say MJ is not still out there, I would say that he started when others were still kicking football in the park. He still has more years in his belt than they have. Also the fact that MJ isn't still out there is because he invested well, so he doesn't have to be out there to earn a living cause he owns the songs they sing.:mello:

Maybe you're right... I don't know his motives. As I said I did an overinterpretation by intention.

On the other hand please don't make this a Michael thing now only cuz I did an overinterpretation... the topic is Madonnas speech and how and maybe why she mentioned him.

well I gave already my impression!

watch for Madonna fans.. some of yall are gonna get it.... lol!

Aw, Madonna's alright. I remember how she really defended Michael after that whole Bashir fiasco happened, saying Bashir was gonna get his for doing what he did.

She isn't on Michael's level, talent wise or success wise, and I'm sure she's the first person to know that. She's just being Madonna, controversial.

the heck? Where are people getting that Madonna was being insulting to Michael?
I took it as she was complimenting him. I always thought she highly respected him.
and if she was insulting him then why in the world would she call him the most succesful artist in the business?

it seems to me that some fans try and dig deep into anything said about Michael to find an insult or a jab at him somewhere when there really isn't anything insulting about it.

Also i never thought she was mocking Mike's voice when she said his name. It just didn't occur to me until i came on here. I thought it was her "inner voice" too as someone mentioned. but who knows? maybe she was.

I just really don't think that part of the speech was an attack to Mike at all.

She slept her way to get to the top, but she is able to control her image (if shes ever in the tabloids, its because shes wants to be) and she has made some great pop tunes and music videos in her own right. But I wouldn't call myself a fan.

When I saw this thread, I thought it was silly. Madonna has always shown mad respect for MJ whenever she's been asked about him. So many times she's been baited into talking **** about him and she didn't fall for it.

The term used throughout the whole segment was "(sexual) innuendo". Some managers do manage more than one artist at a time (i.e. Johnny Wright - Justin Timberlake, Janet). She wanted those listening to assume that, in exchange for some *favors*, Fred became her manager. That was the humor in it, (for some folks). Other than the fact that he was Mike's manager, and MJ was on the brink of world domination, Mike had nothing to do with that last bit. She was just being her playful, provocative self. So sensitive... lol

for me the woman is genius as far as managing her career is concerned

once she used to be one of many, for me, similar blond vocalists and today she is considered by majority an icon
I remember the time she flopped with her album 'Erotica' (?) she told that the experience taught her a lesson a couple years later she came back with a completely new image ("Frozen") and was on top again
the way I see it is Michael's career has been full of ups and downs because he is always directed by his heart, he is sincere in his art and his life (people don't like it but this the way he is) while
his female pal in showbussiness has never let her heart rule obove her head
somehow she wins this way

my opinion... I'm not a fan by the way
