Madonna Appreciation thread - For fans

Thanks for all those pics and clips from the Roseball event. She looks gorgeous from head to toe. Love the hair and outfit and her entrance was so grand! Very few entertainers can stand still and make people go ape #$%^ (MJ was of course best at it). I'm just SO looking forward to Madonna making her musical comeback so that it can be like - Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna who??? LOL! Bow down to the queen!

P.S. For those who don't like the leaked demo,. keep in mind it is indeed a demo. Madonna's demos tend to sound incredibly different once they make the album.

Madonna at the Roseland Ballroom in New York, November 12 - this was a big event from the Smirnoff Night Life Exchange (this project she's taking part in) and she chose the final dancer there for her upcoming tour :

She didn't really perform, but she entered the event on a stage:

And she even was dancing on a DJ booth:

And here she chanted this "L-U-V, Madonna!" part from her upcoming single (Give Me All Your Love):

For anyone who missed it, here's the full leak of the song:

However, this is only the demo version of the song, so we don't know yet how the final product will sound like!

Beautiful!!!! :wild: More:

Madonna, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. Collabo Confirmed

M.I.A. and Minaj will appear on Madge's next album, due in 2012.

By Jocelyn Vena

Madonna fans have something to be thankful for. After much speculation, rapper M.I.A. has confirmed that she, along with Nicki Minaj, will work with Madonna on the Queen of Pop's new album. The rapper took to Twitter over the Thanksgiving holiday to confirm the rumors.

"Summond to NYC by b***hesses > MADONNA and NICKIMINAJ," M.I.A. tweeted on Saturday. "cofffffiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee it iz a good day to get me tho trustttt b***hes."

Rumors of M.I.A. and Nicki's involvement on Madonna's album first surfaced last month on a Madonna fan site.

The track they reportedly will all appear on, "Give Me All Your Love," leaked earlier this month. The sample featured Nicki but not M.I.A., leading fans to wonder if the rumors that she would appear on Madge's album were true.

The leak may have pleased fans, but it left Madonna and her camp pretty unhappy. Shortly after the track hit the Web, Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, took to Twitter to address the leak. "The plan was for new music to come out in the new year," he said. "I'm very happy with the positive reaction to the demo, but we are very upset with whoever leaked the song!!!!!!!! we are asking that the fans please help us police any more leaks. we have a lot in store for you. but please respect the process."

Madonna, via Oseary, also expressed her feelings about the leak. "Madonna told me this morning 'my true fans wouldn't do this,' " he wrote. "Whoever is responsible for this leak, we ask that you please stop!"

The as-yet-untitled new album is expected to drop in the spring of 2012 and will feature production from Ray of Light producer William Orbit. Madonna will also perform at the Super Bowl in February, which coincides with the release of her film "W.E."

Liz Smith: New York Swoons for Madonna and 'W.E.'

www.wowowow.com/liz-smith

And more from our Liz: the star presents her film at the Museum of Modern Art

'I’ve shown this movie at festivals in France, Canada and England. And each time I’ve taken something different away from the movie, and recognized the different ways audiences react.'

'Now, I am so thrilled to be here with the movie at the Museum of Modern Art. As a child, museums were my escape and they formed the idea that I would grow up and become an artist - of some kind.'

'However, unlike my experiences in Venice, London or Toronto, nobody here has yet offered me a glass of champagne. So I’m going to see this movie sober. I hope I still like it!'

That was part of Madonna’s charming speech as she introduced her film, 'W.E.' and one of her stars Andrea Riseborough (who plays Wallis, the Duchess of Windsor) to a fashionable crowd Sunday. (It was a 'hot event night' in NYC. Over at the Ziegfeld Theater, Steven Spielberg’s 'War Horse' was having its premiere.)

This was supposed to be a 'small' screening, but what with Madonna could ever be small? Hosted by The Cinema Society and Piaget, it ended up with a lot of media, and mobs, outside MOMA, behind barricades, screaming for the icon. She was late, of course, which only increased the tension and hysteria when she finally slid glamorously out of her car. (After an aide adjusted her skin-tight pants and glittering top. She looked delicate and petite even in her towering heels.)
Madonna gave the red-carpet reporters and photographers inside as much as she could - if they had their way, she’d still be posing.

Among the throng - Kim Cattrall, Anderson Cooper, Donna Karan, Jeffrey Donovan, Jeremy Piven, Sandy Gallin, Nina Garcia, Hamish Bowles, Julian Schnabel, Barry Diller, Jacob Bernstein, Patti Smith. And but of course, Harvey Weinstein who is distributing 'W.E.' He greeted Madonna affectionately as she strode in, surrounded by her security, her press rep, her personal assistants and others who try to smooth out the bumps for one of the world’s most famous women.

Harvey introduced Madonna, praising her as a 'renaissance woman' with whom he has worked happily since 1990 - they first collaborated on her documentary 'Truth or Dare.' He also remarked that if 'W.E.' had been 'made by, you know...Joe Smith, well...' He was attempting to comment on the bad rap Madonna often receives for anything she does in film, whether acting or in this case, directing. When Madonna got to the podium she joked, 'By the way, Harvey, I don’t want to be Joe Smith' (I’m sure she would have preferred Scorsese or Polanski as a comparative reference point.)

Madonna also commented ruefully that now the movie is set in stone, 'I can’t change anything!' Nothing is ever perfect, nothing is ever easy for Madonna, and she has worked tirelessly on the editing of 'W.E.' melding her two onscreen tales - one, the real-life legendary sensation of a king abdicating his throne for 'the woman I love' - Edward VIII for divorcee Wallis Simpson. There is also the story of a contemporary young woman named Wally, suffering through an abusive marriage, who is obsessed with the story of Wallis and the man who became, briefly, King Edward VIII.

Both of these are compelling concepts. Either would have made a splendid film. It has been Madonna’s job to weave Wallis and Wally. 'Every little girl loves a fairy tale, a happy ending,' Wally declares, explaining her fascination with the Duke and Duchess. Having co-written the script with Alex Keshishian, those are Madonna’s words for sure. At heart, Madonna is a romantic and she does believe in happy endings, though she has yet to find one. (She has not stopped looking, however. Madonna genuinely respects romance.)

The crowd appeared fascinated by 'W.E.' which is a long movie, but there was no sense of restlessness - they loved the clothes (exquisite designs by Arianne Phillips)...they loved the eclectic score, which includes a new song by Madonna, sung over the closing credits...they loved the romance and the tragedy, too. (The Duchess was an unhappy woman, who felt she had ruined the King and trapped herself forever, 'playing out the world’s greatest romance - and now I can never leave him.')

Abbie Cornish as Wally, James D’Arcy as Edward VIII, Richard Coyle as Wally’s husband, Oscar Isaac as Wally’s charming savior, David Harbour as Ernest Simpson, James Fox as Bertie - who would step in as king after Edward abdicates - and Natalie Dormer, the future Queen Mother, are all splendid. Madonna certainly knows how to get the best out of actors. (Miss Dormer is especially delicious in her brief but telling scenes.)
And Miss Riseborough is simply brilliant as Wallis; brittle, poignant, imprisoned.

There was a party after, at a place called Crown. Madonna attended, and so too, it appeared, had everybody in the MOMA audience. It was one of those events where you had to just get over the embarrassment of being jammed up intimately against total strangers. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few pregnancies resulted from the 'W.E.' party. Yeah - it was that close. Madonna was at a corner table, ringed by bodyguards. People kept reaching in frantically, attempting to touch her or get her attention. It was kind of like a well-dressed zombie movie. But she was cool with the crush. This is her life.

Madonna’s 'W.E' opens in L.A. on Dec 9th for a week. (For Academy consideration.) It goes wide on Feb 3rd. Of course she is still a great pop star and concert attraction. She is scheduled to perform at halftime at the upcoming Super Bowl. Her new album will soon be upon us. But if Madonna wanted to devote herself only to filmmaking, she could. She is a fine director, and she made a beautiful, complex and moving work of art. And one that, despite its vintage subject matter, reflects this most modern woman in every frame.

Madonna Confirms Interscope Deal, New Single (& Grammy Nomination Details!)

December 15th, 2011

After rumors hit the Net on Wednesday that Madonna had signed with Interscope, fans waited to see if the ink had really dried on the contract. On Thursday (December 15), a rep for the singer confirmed the industry chatter to MTV News. In addition to signing with the label, Madge will drop her still-untitled album by the end of March.

Madonna has already completed work on the LP and her single “Gimme All Your Luvin” will be released by the end of January, according to a press release. A demo version of the song, featuring rappers M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj, leaked back in November. The three ladies recently shot a video for the track and made headlines when Nicki tweeted about a kiss she shared with Madonna on set.

The three-album deal with Interscope marks the latest chapter in the Queen of Pop’s career. She’ll now be labelmates with the likes of Lady Gaga and Eminem. She’ll also stay in her 10-year 360 deal, signed back in 2007, with Live Nation for all merchandising and tour-related matters.

“We couldn’t be happier to work with [Interscope's] Jimmy Iovine, [Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group] Lucian Grainge and the entire Interscope team,” Madonna’s longtime manager Guy Oseary said in a statement. “We anticipate a very bright future at our new home.”

On Thursday, the newly signed Interscope Records artist became a Golden Globe nominee for her “W.E” track “Masterpiece.” “W.E” is Madonna’s directorial effort, and her tune made the cut for Best Original Song — Motion Picture.

My take - I hope this means that Madonna will FINALLY get proper album and single promotion.

I think the title of her album is a bit strange. But if the music is on the level of "Ray Of Light", "Confessions On A Dancefloor", "True Blue" and all her great albums, then I won't care about the album title.

[h=1]Madonna not totally sharing the love with Lady Gaga?[/h]
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Lady Gaga has been up front about her admiration for Madonna. But does Madonna share the love?

The "Material Girl" sounded lukewarm in U.S. interviews released on Friday, calling her influence on Gaga's music "interesting" and "amusing." Sometimes.

"I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well done," Madonna, 53, told ABC News in a television interview.

"There's a lot of ways to look at it. I can't really be annoyed by it...because obviously, I've influenced her," the pop star told ABC.

The comparisons between the two divas, both known for combining provocative stunts with catchy dance-pop hits, came to a head when Gaga released her "Born This Way" single last February.

The song was instantly likened to Madonna's 1989 hit "Express Yourself".

"When I heard it on the radio .I said that sounds very familiar," Madonna said. Asked if that felt annoying, Madonna responded, "It felt reductive."

Pressed by ABC interviewer Cynthia McFadden whether that was a good or bad thing, Madonna replied "look it up".

In a separate interview in the upcoming issue of Newsweek, Madonna described "Born This Way" as "a wonderful way to redo my song."

"I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was... interesting," she added.

"Born This Way" became an instant hit for Lady Gaga, 25, topping the charts in 19 countries and becoming the fastest selling song in iTunes history.

The Grammy-winning singer told U.S. talk show host Jay Leno in February that she was Madonna's "hugest fan personally and professionally."

As for "Born This Way", Gaga told Leno; "The good news is that I got an e-mail from her (Madonna's) people, and her sending me their love and complete support on behalf of the single."

Madonna's 'Masterpiece' Wins The Golden Globe
Song is featured in 'W.E.,' which Madge wrote and directed.
By Jocelyn Vena

Madonna has a huge year ahead of her, and she's already getting some shine. At the Golden Globes on Sunday night (January 15), the pop star-turned-film director nabbed the Best Original Song prize for "Masterpiece," which was featured in "W.E.," which she wrote and directed.

Taking the stage in her glittering Reem Acra-designed dress, Madge thanked the many collaborators who helped her write the song featured in her first feature film, which opens in wide release next month.

"This is a surprise," she told the room, clutching her prize. "Thank you so much to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this acknowledgement. I need to thank my co-writers, Jimmy Harry and Julie Frost, my co-producer William Orbit, who's not here, whom I adore."

As her speech went on, she opened up a bit about the creation of the award-winning track, ignoring her exit music altogether.

"I would also like to thank my manager, Guy Oseary, who I spend most of my time beating up on," she said. "But seriously, he harangued me for the entire time I was filming and editing my movie to write a song. And I said, 'Please, Guy, I'm trying to focus on being a director and I want people to pay attention to the film and I don't have time.' So then I finished the film and I started making my record and somehow magically and miraculously the song emerged, 'Masterpiece,' so thank you, Guy Oseary, for being so irritating."

As her speech wrapped up, she thanked her leading lady in the film, Andrea Riseborough, and producer Harvey Weinstein, whom she called the Punisher.

This is hardly Madonna's first Golden Globe. She previously won Best Actress in Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for playing Eva Peron in "Evita." "Masterpiece" is expected to appear on Madonna's forthcoming new record, M.D.N.A.

And Elton John's Face when she won the award :rollin: :

He was nominated in the same category, but lost against her...However, he dissed her a bit too before the show, he said that there wouldn't be a way Madonna would win the award.

BTW, for anyone who missed it, here's the song for which she won the award:

The song isn't officially available yet, but it will be released on the soundtrack for W.E. (which will be released next month) and her new album M.D.N.A (which will be released in March)

Exciting times ahead: Super Bowl, new single, new music video, new album, new tour....:wild:
I can't wait!

LMAO @Elton! That's what you get for opening your big mouth. I didn't know he had dissed her (yet again) before the show. He's so clearly bothered by her continued success over the past 30 years (you'd think his own success would be enough). Anyway, Madonna looked so beautiful at the Golden Globes. I was honestly surprised that she won the award (I figured Mary would take it) but of course am thrilled that she did. Madonna's interview for Nightline with Cynthia McFadden drew big ratings (drew in younger viewers for an older skewing late night news program) and is generating great buzz in general. She's really hot in the press whether it be her thoughts on Gaga's "rip-off" song Born This Way or her Superbowl performance - it's Madonna Madonna MADONNA! I'll say it now, 2012 is the year of Madonna. She's going to show all the current poptarts how it's done and I for one can't wait. I'm so excited!:woohoo:

So true, 2012 will be HER year! :wild:

In relation to the interview on Nightline:
I don't think Madonna really dissed Gaga in the interview, that's just how the media wants to make a story out of nothing. The reporter asked her what she thought about the Born This Way Song (because it extremely sounds like Madonna's Express Yourself) and Madonna answered that it felt 'reductive'. Then the interviewer asked what 'reductive' means and she said 'Look it up!" - Well, and 'reductive' means 'crude' or 'minimal', so basically Madonna said Born This Way sounded like some of kind of a cheap copy...However, this was the only negative thing Madonna said about Gaga. She also said she's an interesting artist (or something like that) and it's flattering that Gaga sometimes references her. So overall her reception was, as people here already pointed out, lukewarm.

BTW, I can't forget how she says 'Look it up" in the interview, soooo bitchy and yet so cool :woohoo:

At 7:05 minutes :D

There's also that great gif, I love it! :D

Oh, and I don't know it it's been posted yet, but Madonna also did an interview on the Graham Norton Show in the UK last week:

Great interview! I watched it from beginning to end!

Oh, I love that gif so much

I like Elton John. But he's acting ridiculous with this thing about Madonna, in my opinion. He has enough talent where he shouldn't be making snarky comments about her like that. He can just write another song, get some publicity for the song and see what happens the next time the awards are announced. He is a grown man. There's no need for all that bitterness because she won something that he wanted to win. I think that both Madonna and Elton John are talented and can stand on their own artistic merits without the childish fighting. I will continue to be a fan of both Madonna and Elton John. But I still think that this nasty bicker-fest going on between them is just shameful, disgusting and totally unnecessary. This is just my opinion.

Well, aside from that, I look forward to a very Madonna year for 2012. I'm look forward to what she has in store for us this year.

Elton's partner took to Facebook and posted this:
“Madonna. Best song??? F*** off!!!!

“Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit.

“Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.”

Yes, that's right Elton and David. Madonna ignoring your antics and simply giving her vague thoughts on a question asked of her in an interview is desperate. Really? Two grown ass men having a hissy fit and attacking a woman because they lost an award to her isn't desperate or narcissistic?

And her "reductive" comment wasn't even bad. It's how you choose to interpret it, which is why Madonna chose that word. It has several meanings. She's a master manipulator of the media and knew exactly how to play the questions to her favor. It's part of why I love her. Never the victim.

I don't watch the award shows but I caught that part by accident and I just knew Elton wasn't happy. I think the sad thing is that you used to hear songs from movies on the radio etc. all the time. The songs now that win or in the category I never hear on the radio. Maybe it's just me. It feels like it's not important as it used to be. I didn't know what reductive means either lol.

I don't mean to offend Gaga fans but born this way is a like a copy of Express Yourself. If she had gone to Madonna and said I would like to use that song and try something new I think she would have been fine. A lot of people use older songs into new songs. I think it's too much now a days. I think people should come up with their own material but anyways. I heard that Gaga is Elton John's son's godmother so clearly he supports her. I really don't know what Madonna is suppose to say when it comes to Gaga.

Elton and his husband shouldn't say anything. It makes them look bad and it won't bother Madonna at all.
