Madonna Appreciation thread - For fans

Liz Smith's statement about Madonna's next tour and dancers

ALTHOUGH SOME of Madonna’s admirers would prefer it if the pop icon didn’t run herself ragged on another world concert tour, that is exactly what she will be doing next year. M is recording songs for a new album and the concert will follow. Well, I suppose you can’t blame her. The last tour was the highest-grossing tour for a solo artist—ever. It was somewhere in the $400 millions. And a girl can never have too many millions.

Madonna has teamed with Smirnoff to hold a “global dance competition.” The winner will join the star’s troupe as they all writhe and grind their way around the world. This is the first time Madonna has chosen a dancer this way. Well, there has to be a first time for everything and everyone, even Madonna.

She’ll choose her other dancers as she always has in the past.

Madonna thanks exes for encouraging movie career

September 1, 2011 7:35 AM PDT

Pop star Madonna thanked her ex-husbands for encouraging her to take up a career in movies, as she arrived in Venice on Thursday for the world premiere of her lavish royal drama "W.E."
The 53-year-old American has been married to actor and director Sean Penn and British film maker Guy Ritchie -- and has spent much of the last few years behind the camera rather than on the stage.

W.E., her second feature film, appears at the Venice film festival outside the main competition, but the presence of one of the world's biggest celebrities inevitably dominated the attention of the world's press.

The film re-tells the story of American divorcee Wallis Simpson, whose affair with Britain's King Edward VIII led him to abdicate the throne.

It does so through the eyes of another American Wally Winthrop, played by Abbie Cornish, who lives in New York in the 1990s and becomes obsessed with the life of a woman with whom she bears an uncanny resemblance.

"I am and was attracted to very creative people which is why I married Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie, two very talented directors," Madonna told reporters after a press screening of W.E.

"They both encouraged me as a director and as a creative person to do what I did, and they were both very supportive," added the singer, who wore a short-sleeved black dress with white trim.

There was applause for the movie after the first screening and one early review, in the Daily Telegraph, gave W.E. three stars out of five.

"Her version of their (the Windsors') lives is a fantasia that will not trouble historians," wrote David Gritten. "Yet oddly, that's a relief after so many stale, plodding TV documentaries about this unlovely couple."

PARALLELS BETWEEN MADONNA, WALLIS

Madonna said she saw parallels between herself and Simpson, a woman who was vilified by many for her role in a constitutional crisis but who is sympathetically portrayed in W.E. by Andrea Riseborough.
Like Simpson, Madonna is a woman who lives her life in the public glare, and is also an American who moved to England for several years while married to Ritchie.

"I identified with her in that I think it's very common when people become celebrities or public figures or icons that we are often reduced to a soundbite and that you're given a few attributes and then you're not allowed to have anything more than that," she said.

"I did go through periods of feeling like I was an outsider when I first moved to England.

"I certainly didn't feel like that by the time I'd lived there for 10 years. And I feel, since I moved there, that I feel very welcomed by England."

Asked why she chose Simpson as a subject, Madonna replied:

"I was deeply and utterly swept up in trying to understand the reason that this man, King Edward VIII ... would relinquish this great position of power for love."

She added that she hoped the success of "The King's Speech," set at the same time and in a similar world to W.E., would help, not harm her project.

"I was a little bit nervous, because I thought, 'oh dear, if someone else is making a movie about the same time-frame, then who would be interested in my movie?'

"But then I saw the film and I saw that it was from a completely different point of view and I view the success of that film as sort of laying the groundwork for my movie.

"So there is a little bit of history and a little bit of knowledge and we are not starting with a blank slate."

It seems that the movie not received good reviews.... :(

W.E. has received good reviews from the media that has critiqued the movie and not just the director. Unfortunately, it seems the media can't separate Madonna from the megastar and just love to beat her up whether she's behind a camera or in front. I realize Madonna has had some crummy performances in film but she's also had some lovely ones (Evita) and no matter what, they always kick her. It's a shame. From what I've read, this movie has very positive buzz and even some it is Oscar buzz. Again, from the sources that aren't unfairly judging the movie.

The few articles I read were negative. :( Yes, they always kick her :perrin: and of course, she does not care with them. > :pth: :tease: I'm really crazy to watch this movie! :wild:

Madonna talks about her new album!

- Her new single will be out in February or March 2012

- The new album will be released in spring next year

- She will be in the recording studio until the end of this year

- And to the question what we can expect from William Orbit working on her new album she replies "More great music!" - so she basically confirmes that he's one of the producers!

I am looking forward to Madonna's new album with a major seriousness. That interview made me excited about this all over again. I will be playing a few of her past albums today in celebration for her new album.

and unfortunately, madonna is still rude as ever: this made me lol.

It wasn't very sweet of her, but at least she's honest and it wasn't to the persons face. It was a behind the scenes moment that was unfortunately picked up by the mic. Madonna is never going to be the type of artist that pampers her fans and treats them like lost souls who need saving ( like Lady Gaga does). She is who she is and I love her for it. Madonna is strong and knows what she wants and likes. No excuses.

I don't think what Madonna said was very smart under the circumstances. But I do think that it was an honest mistake.

This. It's just being sensationalized. No one was hurt (or rather no one would have been hurt had this video not went viral and blown out of proportion).

Exactly! And the guy who delivered the flowers (hydrangea), is probably not a fan, it's someone from the press. Madonna was about to start the press conference and I doubt very much that they allowed the presence of fans there, just the press.

I just can't believe how sensationalized this whole thing has become. It's literally all over the place. I even saw Kathy Lee and Hoda discussing it on the Today Show. Is this really news worthy? A private moment that didn't hurt anyone is being used to vilify Madonna. She's being called a bitch left and right and it's so unfair. We've all had these moments and she really did nothing wrong other than get caught on the mic. The "fan" left and she told a companion next to her that she hates that particular type of flower. That's it. Big deal. No one was hurt, but somehow this has turned in to a big deal and is being used to hurt Madonna's reputation. All that we found out is that she doesn't like hydrangeas and I'm like... so what?

Exactly! When it comes to Madonna, the press is keen to make a storm in a teacup... ALWAYS! Unfortunately. :(

I'm just going to take it for what it is and brush it off as more evidence to the power of Madonna and her legend. Who else could get so much attention for such a non-issue?

Madonna responds to the media about the hydrangea "incident" as only Madonna can.

it's 1990 again! madonna's a bitch, still has a sense a humour and is back in the news hahahahaha

new single/album promo for next yeari reckon, should be interesting!

Yep! New single and album next year in the spring and I for one am so excited. I can't wait to hear what she has in store for us. I think artists like Lady Gaga has made Madonna hungrier to show them all how it's really done.

I seriously am looking forward to Madonna's new album as well. She is at the top of my list of my favorite female music artists.
