Lady Gaga's meat dress angers animal rights groups

I'm fed up of Lady Gaga. She will do anything for attention and I'm so bored by her now. I really dont care what stunt she pulls, she should let her talent do the talking, not her dress sense.

You read my mind.

This is worse than wearing fur. Seriously. The most sickening bit? Walking about is real meat "shoes". Yikes. How disrespect of God's creatures. I know it's hypocritical to say that when I and others wear leather but there is something just worse about it.

I liked one part of her lyrics when she sang a bit of her song : "cause baby God makes no mistakes and I was born that way" (or something of the like). I hope the new album has a positive message.

I like her music.
But this is really so stupid and pointless.... no respect for herself so why taking her so seriously?

As someone pointed out before in the thread, this is just a new way to abuse animals. Such a shame!!!

Whatever, Grace Jones used to eat the indoor plants at a TV show when she visited our country AGES ago... so things just repeat every now and then, I guess

the girl doesn't trust her music, so, eventually, her music will pay her back, and not give much to her..

why does she feel the need to go to such extremes?

i just feel like there are better ways to get her message across than wearing a controversial meat dress. if she really believes in her message and her music, why doesn't she send her message across through her songs?

i just don't get it. she claimed her video "alejandro" is about military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, how so?

what is she trying to say in her "telephone" video? again, i just don't get it. she always tries to provoke and create controversy. her outrageous behaviors drive people away from her music. people's focus is not her songs or her performances, but what she'll wear?

i just found it sad that she's attracting people not by her talents, but by the controversies she creates.

So what is her message with the meat dress? Is she pro-meat or anti-meat?

Was the dress made of real meat? In the photos I've seen it looks like fabric with a meat pattern on it. LOL I'm sorry I haven't read the details about this. The hat looked real.

This is Gaga going through LAX airport today. I guess comfort during travel isn't a priority for her...

I'm a vegan, but all of the people here complaining about this "dress", aren't griping about leather, silk, feather fill pillows/coats, alligator boots, cosmetics, dissection animals in schools, and many other products made from animals. What's the difference? There is none. You're just being selective just like PETA, who just want to save the "cute" animals. And this wasting food comments? What a joke. Restaurants, factories, schools, and stores throw out tons of food everyday.

There is a HUGE difference. I do agree using leather of an endangered species ( or any species for that matter) is not only inhumane, but barbaric as well. But using the actual meat for fashion in a time where people can barely find leftovers to survive is insulting. As harsh as it is, skinning a perfectly edible animal for the sake of fashion is about as bad as it can get.

For instance, I also find "chocolate fashion", even food fights to be a disgusting habit. Food is scarce, IT IS NOT AN UNLIMITED RESOURCE!

And media dares to call her "the new Michael Jackson", how could they!
No offense to Gaga fans but that woman is not taleted at all, someone who trully is doesn't need to dra attention in such a extreme and idiotic way as 144,000 was saying.

Killing an animal is killing an animal. It doesn't matter if you eat it, use them as an ingredient in makeup & photographic film, make them into a meat "dress", a leather purse, a fur coat, a candle, inject them with diseases and drugs, hang their head on a wall or have the body stuffed. The end use is irrelevant, the process is the same. It's no different than if you robbed a bank. If you get caught, do you think that the police will care if you want to give the money to starving children in Africa or just want to buy some bling? No, they're still gonna take you to to jail. You can't say that it's ok to kill for a particular use, or it's ok to eat a cow, but not ok to eat a dog or cat. It's either you're for killing an animal or against killing an animal. People have also killed many animals or made them extinct by indirect means like introducing non-native animals & insects to areas that wound up killing off the native animals. That's what killed off the dodo bird. People hunted them, but also brought rats that would eat the dodo eggs. Rats reproduce rapidly, and the dodo didn't. So they became extinct. As I said before, restaurants, stores, and other places throw out tons of food everyday. I'm also pretty sure you can find plenty of discarded food in the average trashcan in the city. I know because I see homeless people eating the fast food that people didn't finish eating and threw away. Look at Hollywood movies and TV shows, they have food in scenes and most of it is thrown out when the scene is finished filming. So I don't know what difference this meat dress makes as far as a food shortage goes. Animals fight and kill themselves for no reason and not for food, like a male lion will kill his cubs, monkeys fight and kill for territory, dolphins kill just for fun. Some male animals fight and sometimes kill for female mating purposes or alpha male status. Are they wasting food too?

You should have noticed that I used "chocolate fashion" to prove that I am not against killing animals if it was for food ( We are an omnivore species after all) But it's the extravagance of such resources that kill me every time. Lavish hunting, introduction of foreign animals , etc. All fall into this category as well. I lost a lot of respect to spain when I heard about their tomato festival, I'm also very disturbed by any kind of food fights, regardless of the content. I would have been just as disturbed if Lady GaGa wore a cheese outfit for the event.

^^^^People aren't designed to be flesh eaters. Carnivores have a different digestive system and also equiped to kill their prey. Humans can't kill an animal naturally, only artificially. A true meat eater doesn't need a gun, a spear, or anything else. Also if a food can't be eaten raw, it's not edible. If you need to cook it to eat it, then it's not meant to be eaten.

The point is not whether we were designed to eat either flesh or plant (I know we are naturally herbivore). But it's about people who need meat in order to survive. Instead it's on Lady GaGa for one night.. :/

I agree with your concern against the use/abuse of animals in so many different ways.
However, the fact people are not complaining against some of the issues you pointed (and we have no evidence they are not complaining in real life, so I won't point anyone on that), doesn't mean people should say nothing about what Gaga did.

I never had to kill an animal at school. I don't see how that can be "educational" in no single way  But there must have been a point in time when they decided start doing that stupidity. I have no idea of anyone complained back in the day, but if anyone did, s/he didn't do it strong enough.

If this meat dress gets so much attention, you can bet you will have to add dresses and many more things to your original list. This is not the first time Gaga has done this, for she made it before for Vouge Japan (see here http://www.faridnetworks.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ladygaga-vogue-japon.jpg) and she is not the first to do this (I remember a US reality of models when they had to take pics wearing meat too :puke:).

So I hope people will make enough noise to make Gaga apologize for her stupid dress. Is anyone talking about the cause she is supposedly supporting? Not at all. It's all about a dress and getting attention for HER, not the cause she says she supports.

I'm still trying to figure out what the cause is.

Oh yeah, self promotion. That's the cause.

This is so unnecessary, she wants to be different but this is too much. her goal is to gain press and she has achieved that, soon she will run out of idead, maybe she will set her hair on fire or wear broken glass since she is heading in that direction, looks at her at the airport.

I don't think any non famous person would be allowed to walk through the siport like this, the rules shouldn't be different for her.

She looks like a total moron, and just keeps losing credibility to me....:puke: Is it ever about the music anymore?

*SIGH* It's disturbing to know that she was wearing real meat during the function. What's more disturbing is that it can potentially start off a bad trend of wearing gowns and hats made of flesh given the number of headlines the dress is generating.

And if you think people don't imitate ugly things like that, think again.

Remember the Journalist of Middle-East who threw shoes at Bush ? After that crazy incident, at more than 20 occasions worldwide, people have reportedly thrown shoes at Politicians or Local power-wielders visiting their region.

:scratch:Just to let you know - thankfully none of the shoes have hit their target as of now

Totally distasteful imo.... as was America's Top Model when they got the models to wear meat for a photo shoot.

Take a look at this advert;

If she was making a point like wearing leather and fur is just as bad as wearing a full dead animal/raw meat, then her meat dress would have had a far more powerful effect and she would have been respected more for making a valid point.
But to wear the meat dress simply to "shock" and make herself seem "outrageous" and "controversial" is stupid. A) because nothing is shocking with Lady Gaga anymore, she could've walked on stage completely naked and I wouldn't have been remotely shocked, and B) People are losing respect for her because these "shocking" and "controversial" stunts are wearing thin.

I actually like her music, but I am getting sick of her as an "artist". And this constant need to be in the headlines is getting boring.

Lady Gaga should work on getting some meat of her own on her body.
That girl (I guess it's a girl?) is skinnyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

It's horrid. I must comment the labels marketing plan though, she's the biggest thing around right now. Good or bad, publicity is publicity.

She's only going to get more popular, unless a plan of hers backfires with the general public - something I hope happens, she doesn't deserve what she has in my honest opinion.
