"As went to press, we have been reliably informed that Gambians have started sending messages to Jermaine Jackson’s website: www.starpulse.com/Music/Jackson,_Jermaine/Links/ and we encourage our readers to follow suite. O-M-G...please Lord save MJ's legacy from these horrible people. I don't want western press to get on this...

It's pretty clear why Michael kept distance between himself and family when it
came to work. Certain people are not going to change.

The Gambia Echo was shamed and embarrassed when our State House operative, Kissy Kissy Mansa, informed us last year, of President Jammeh’ sending of a letter of condolence to President Barrack Obama on the death of Michael Jackson. Upon learning of this, we contacted the Gambian Embassy in Washington, DC, but the official who picked the phone, hung up on us. So we then contacted the State Department and lo and behold, it was true, but the laughter we received from the State Department was not only palpable but humiliating. “We have never seen anything like this, Michael Jackson even though a remarkable human being was not a Federal employee and whoever advised your president, lacks grounding in protocol” a highly placed source in the Department of State told this reporter and went on to laugh continuously.

This is...I can't even...
PP&B run kids run very fast!!

For real I wish Jerms and folks like him would have a name and legacy of their own to destroy and tarnish instead of Michaels. -_-

i don't even wonder about this ,for some reason i think jerm always manages to find bad guys same quality as his dad.remember he introduce thome to Michael.i think he is already in Africa right now.

Jermaine, just go home and raise your kids and then do some charity work instead of this. Your "beloved" brother will be much more grateful.

(Seriously, Jermaine is Michael's BROTHER, he shouldn't put THIS much emphasis on the music. Michael, the person, is more important.)

So this shindig is still on......lord.

BTW....And is'nt it interesting to see that the nephews who are on Twitter all seem to use a photo of MJ as there background photo....

The Gambia-Michael Jackson Tribute

The Gambia gears up for musical concert in tribute to Michael Jackson

http://www.apanews.net/apa.php?page=show_article_eng&id_article=125271
APA=Banjul (The Gambia) The grand musical performance, dubbed as "a tribute to Michael Jackson" to be performed by the late king of pop’s elder brother, Jermaine Jackson and other family members, is fully set to roll off Saturday evening at Gambia’s Independence Stadium in Bakau, some 11 kilometres outside of Banjul, the capital.

As part of the on-going 5th Kanilai International Cultural Festival, this is the first of its kind since Michael Jackson’s sudden death.

Jermaine Jackson, who seems to have developed a special relationship with the Gambian leader Yahya Jammeh, has jetted into Banjul from the United States with some 60 family members, members of his band as well as staff and fans. He promises to devote the proceeds from the performance to the many charitable bodies President Jammeh has created for women’s emancipation and girl’s education as well as for child welfare.

The concert is expected to be graced by the presence of President Jammeh, cabinet ministers, diplomats, other distinguished guests as well as thousands of adoring fans comprising mainly of young people, for many of whom this is a once in a life time occasion not to be missed.

Since early on Saturday morning, a swelling number of young fans have been finding their way to the stadium in Bakau.

First, I hope none of MJ's kids are part of this "tribute".

Second, who are these fans he flew in with?

And third, what birthday gift do you offer a dictator?

Re: The Gambia-Michael Jackson Tribute

oh my goodness, so it is happening. and Jermaine even brought the fans? Ok, lol

Well he's only flown with 60 family members the other six thousand are still in the States.. let's hope MJ3 were not dragged along. I wonder why he's got to bring his own fans along.... Michael never had to bring fans along no matter where he flew to...

Nothing shocks me anymore when it comes to the family stuff. That belt incident last week solidified it for me. I just hope Michaels kids are safe and he is watching over them.

President of Gambia threatens rights defenders with death

PUBLISHED JANUARY 26, 2010

In September, lawyers and rights activists called on the African Union’s human rights body to move its headquarters out of Gambia after President Yahya Jammeh on national television threatened human rights defenders and said he would kill anyone collaborating with them.

“African leaders must stand up and draw a line and say this is unacceptable,” Chidi Odinkalu, legal adviser with the Africa Open Society Justice Initiative, said. “We cannot defend human rights internationally if our leaders are going around threatening people with death.”
In a speech televised on 21 September President Jammeh said: “If you think you can collaborate with so-called human rights defenders and get away with it, you must be living in a dream world. I will kill you and nothing will come of it.” He continued: “We are not going to condone people posing as human rights defenders to the detriment of our country. If you are affiliated with any human rights group, rest assured your security and personal safety will not be guaranteed by my government. We are ready to kill saboteurs.” Gambia hosts the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, which hears cases brought by human rights defenders from across the continent.
“It is extraordinary,” Odinkalu told IRIN. “When presidents begin to threaten death and killing on people who defend human life and human rights it reflects a system with a total absence of accountability.” “Tis is not the first, second or third time he has issued threats, but there is a chilling dimension to this threat. It is indiscriminate and it is directed at the whole world. The human rights situation in Gambia is intolerable.”

THe Commission, charged with promoting and protecting human rights throughout the continent, was established in 1986 by the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights and set up its headquarters in Gambia in 1989.

WTF?!

Jermaine you idiot.

This could turn out to be such an embarassment for him......again, people need to do their homework!

Jermaine has no idea who this jammeh really is.

He should have checked it before he started praising the fool.

Jermaine is ok but he makes me do this >

If he doesn't know about this guy then someone needs to tell him. Does Jermaine not have a manager or something? This is what I thought when I read about the recent LaToya thing. I would have thought whoever books them for these things should do their research before passing the offer onto them. If they don't have a manager/agent/assistant to do this and instead organise their own affairs then it is down to themselves to research.

Yes... you are correct.

21 May 2010

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) is calling on Jermaine Jackson, an American singer, leader of the renowned Jackson Five and senior brother of the late revered Michael Jackson, to call off his intended trip to the Gambia to perform on the occasion of President Yahya Jammeh's birthday.
