NEW YORK (AP) — Janet Jackson is rescheduling part of her Australian tour so she can support her family during the trial of the doctor accused of involuntary manslaughter in her brother Michael's death.

Dr. Conrad Murray is on trial in Los Angeles. He is accused of being negligent in his care of the superstar, who died in 2009 of an overdose of the anesthetic propofol at age 50.

The prosecution is wrapping up its case this week, and the defense is about to present its case. The Jacksons have been a regular presence at the trial; Janet Jackson was there at the beginning.

"When I planned these shows, the schedule in California was completely different," she said in a Sunday statement to The Associated Press. "After talking with my family last night, I decided we must be together right now. .... This saddens me in so many ways."

The shows for her "Number Ones" tour were scheduled in Melbourne on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; to make them up, she'll perform one night, on Nov. 3, in Rod Laver Arena. She thanked her fans for their support and understanding.

Jackson also has the support of her promoter.

"It is important that Janet is with her family at this critical point in the hearing. While Janet and our company apologize for any inconvenience for the reschedule of the Melbourne shows, we thank Janet for the great and successful concerts in Perth and Adelaide and eagerly await her return. ... Our thoughts and prayers are with Janet and the entire Jackson family," promoter Paul Dainty said.

.....I understand her doing this, but I had a ticket to her Melbourne show. I did NOT pay to see her way up the back in a giant arena. I paid to see her in an up close and personal space.

Edit: Honestly Janet, I love you girl. But you should've made this decision sooner. You're already here in Australia. Can't it wait a few days?

maybe it cant maybe shes worried about missing the verdit t maybe her mom needs her i mean this is her brothers death after all it does suck you didnt get what you paid for though
 
I understand that completely, and I fully support her decision. However I DON'T support her grouping three, seperate dates into one big "arena" event. That's not what the tour was about. That's not what I paid for.
 
^ I am sure get a good seat the people who bought tickets first should be a able to get good seats , and the if theres any left that will be the nosebleeds , and believe weather it's too 2,000 or 15,00 it still fell pretty initamte.

^ The fact is that all I could afford was just about back row anyway, so I was only just going to be able to see her in the smaller venue to begin with. That's why I'm annoyed.
 
okay I see what your saying but you never know you just might wind up with , if people can't it make to the reschuled date you might get moved up
I think it's being moved to arena because instead of doing "three days' she'll just be doing 1 show and be able to come back sooner

^ Well yeah....that's very clear that's the reason, LOL! But the fact is that this tour is meant to be "up close and personal" and it won't be that in an arena.

well, it might not be much different ...2000- seater vs a 6000-seater. Not really a big arena

Janet Jackson is currently touring Australia with her Up Close and Personal tour. The concerts are being held in smaller, more intimate venues and target specifically to her long time fans. Unfortunately Janet has had to return home during the Melbourne leg of her tour (which is totally understandable). However the tour promoters Dainty Group are organising to have all 3 Melbourne concerts re-scheduled quickly into one concert at Rod Laver arena.

Many fans have tickets to all 3 shows as they are huge fans and want to see Miss Jackson 3 times, up close and personal, not once in a large stadium. Many fans have paid extra to guarantee that their seats are close to the stage. If all 3 events are combined into one then these up close seats cannot be guaranteed.

I'm sure most fans will be willing to wait until next year until the venue and Janet Jackson are free to re-schedule all 3 shows.

If you are a Janet fan and have tickets to the Melbourne shows, please lend your voice and show your support to stop the Dainty Group combining the 3 Janet Jackson Melbourne shows into one.

Surely Miss Jackson would understand and be willing to return at a later date to keep her fans happy.

Hmm....wonder how that discussion went down 'cause the same family members did'nt seem to think they should be together for the trial the week of that 'tribute concert'

And as for that petition, there is no reason for it, she made it clear that she will just cumulate the three shows into one, so saying it won't be 'up close and personal' now is irrelevant. Its not like she is cancelling all together. There are more important things in ones life and she has chosen to make her appearance at this trial a priority. I'm sure she understands her fans disappointment, but family should always come first.

It certainly will be interesting to see if she really chooses to go to London at the time of the verdict.
 
I'll sign the petition too, I understand Janet wanting to be at the trial but she should do three shows, but like I said in the number ones tour thread, maybe the theatre was booked on the nights she requested hence the larger arena show.
 
yea I think the theater was booked also.. If anyone wants to get mad blame the defense for having the trial delayed. As we know these schedules are made months in advance so it's hard to reschedule dates. She can try to come back much later tough. The rescheduled dates not only have to fit the venue schedule but her schedule also.
 
I understand she want sto be with her family and I belive she should be there. Best way would have been to reschedule all shows at the same venue. Maube Katherine's London trip will be cancelled as well if the case is coming close to a verdict.
 
No I just heard on tv from the CNN person that talks to katherine that she has to go to London. She signed the contract. Can someone else take her place when the verdict comes in?

Maybe the tried to reschedule the concert at the same place but they couldn't this year and didn't want people to wait and have the show the same time? I read a cirque de soleil show got postoned this year somewhere and it won't happen till august 2012. That's a long wait.
 
Katheirne is going to London during the the time of the verdict?! Is this a SICK joke?!
 
No. She has to go soon and we don't know when the verdict is but she is contractually obligated to be there. I don't know why someone else can't go for her.

See this is why mjs brothers & sisters need to look out for katerine and make sure she doesnt get involved in any deals that she may not be really wanting to be invloved in. Cuz i get the feelings that is what maybe happening etc: ppl whispering to katerine telling her to be in this deal and that deal and they most likely are using katerine for their gain. I understand katerine may have done this contract way b4 the trial but i hope janets presuades her to tell those ppl to "stuff you im going to the verdict in honur of my son!" , imo katerine should be at the verdict
 
Katherine is 81 years old.. why is she signing deals and making contracts to make appearances anyway?

why does Janet suddenly feel compelled that MJ's death trial is important enough for her to attend?

Her tour dates were already booked before the trial began and from what I heard it's tough cancelling/postponing dates. But I think Katherine leaving for the premiere, most of her siblings not attending the trial at all might have compelled her.
