They'd be pure if they weren't bombarded with this stuff but yeah, like you said, this kind of corruption is nothing new.
But at the same time, parents that try to shield their children doesn't usually work. They tend to be the kids who are bullied and teased by the other kids. They generally don't function as well when they go out in the world. Joe kept his kids working or moving bricks to keep them from joining gangs and getting into trouble, but when they became adults, other "worldly" or streetwise people took advantage of them and used them. Sheltered kids get hustled more easily. I know this from my own life.
This is OT but I too was very sheltered, maybe still am in some cases. But at the same time I've seen examples of people who were way out there and how they tragically end up and although I may have hated the sheltering and the embarrassment of it when I was younger, I thank my parents so much, and I'm pretty sure Joe's children appreciated it too later in life, just look at how far they came. Yes, from time to time they may do something crazy but out of consideration unlike many other self righteous celebrities, they come out and explain and apologize,i.e., Janet's superbowl incident.They are diamonds in the rough, really. Because you don't find special people like MJ around here alot. There's nothing wrong with a little innocence in this senseless and decadent world.
But Janet started out as a little girl imitating Mae West, and Mae's image was nympho and proud of it. Mae was always trying to get by the censors of her day with her one liners and double entendres in movies. The J5 played in strip clubs and later they were around other acts like James Brown & Jackie Wilson and after signing to Motown hung around the label's other acts, many of whom weren't exactly clean living. Richard Pryor was also a family friend and he was definitely wild. So the siblings weren't that sheltered. I always used to wonder why Mike used to go to Studio 54 in the late 70s, because people just went there to snort cocaine and participate in orgies. That didn't seem like the kind of environment he would like, going by the image he always tried to present, lol.
She's an actress from the 1920s & 1930s. Well she acted after that, but these years are when she was most popular.
