Is Music Today Really THAT Bad?

The majority of music today is forcing itself to be more and more commercial, the days of artistic merit are essentially gone and instead of being exploratory many artists are restricting themselves to make sure they only create 'singles' as opposed to having an album with 4 or 5 commercial songs and the rest artistic experiments. These days it seems to be all about having hits that will make money, sound like the times and dissappear after a few years. Nobody is creating music with longevity. The music business has essentially sold out and everyone seems afraid to expand greatly further to what is the mainstream popular, catchy sounds of the times currently are.
