Exclusive Liner Notes from Bad 25 / Mystery About Unreleased Michael Jackson Songs from Bad 25

I'm quite curious about "Abortion Papers". The little tidbit from the lyrics make it sound like it might be an anti-abortion song.

Here comes controversy...

Michael courted controversy. In the short term, it never harmed his records.

Shall we censor Michael? Since when didnt he have controversy in his albums.

I dont think it will be anti or pro. Im thinking he may be writing from a view that it is a very perplexing or sad situation to be in without judging. Maybe from a mans point of view who doesnt want his child aborted or is questioning what is the right decision to make. Roger stated it was the oposite of BJ So maybe he is claiming it is his child in this song .. everyone has there own personal convictions on abortion. You can have that without judging others choices - Knowing MJ he doesnt judge. Just tells a story. Now from what angle/point of view shall be very intersting.

Michael Jackson: Exclusive Liner Notes from “Bad25″

Exclusive: Here’s some more info from the boxed set of Michael Jackson’s “Bad 25″ anniversary project coming on September 18th. Jackson fans should be ears up on this since we get some explanations for how the estate put the project together after Frank DiLeo unexpectedly and tragically passed away. Here’ an excerpt, plus a description of some of the unreleased songs I wrote about this morning. I’m telling you, “I’m So Blue” is one I cannot get out of my head. Very annoying, in a good way.

Excerpt: “A lot of time was spent listening to all of the recordings in the archives from the BAD era… Some tracks we found were very early recordings. They had no lyrics except possibly the chorus but more complete music tracks. Some were actually so complete that any other artist but Michael Jackson – who worked tirelessly to make sure his songs reflected his vision – might consider them finished tracks… As such, we have given a little information for each recording. As Michael wrote in a note at the time, he was determined to get exactly what he wanted on the recordings of his songs… In addition to the demo recordings, also on the “bonus” disc are the three recordings that were included in the 2001 re-release of the BAD album – “Fly Away,” “Streetwalker” and the Spanish version of “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You.” In addition, a French version of “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” is included along with the earlier mentioned remixes.”

DON’T BE MESSIN’ ROUND
It is well-known that Michael might start a song for one album, and then choose not to use it. The song would later be pulled from his vaults for possible use on a subsequent album project. “Don’t Be Messin’ Round” is an example of one such song, and how it took shape at the time of BAD. Indeed, Bruce Swedien has called it one of his favorites.

I’M SO BLUE
For Michael, creating a demo is how he let someone (in this case Quincy and Bruce) know what he wanted to hear in the finished recording. It also was a vehicle for writing both the lyrics and the music (since he didn’t actually write leadsheets). And because he was such a perfectionist, this really meant giving them a demo that, to most people, would be considered a finished “record” and not a demo at all as Bruce Swedien, among others, have noted. This is an example of one of those “demos.”

SONG GROOVE (A/K/A ABORTION PAPERS)
As noted earlier, this is a song that Michael knew could be controversial and, as a result, he spent a lot of time thinking about the story for the song and the voice through which the song should be told. The song is
about a girl whose father is a priest; she was raised in the Church and on the Bible. She gets married in the Church but decides, against the Bible, to have an abortion and she wants “Abortion Papers.” As Michael indicated in his notes, “I have to do it in a way so I don’t offend girls who have gotten abortions or bring back guilt trips so it has to be done carefully… I have to really think about it.“ This is an early example of a song with a controversial subject.

FREE
Generally, Michael’s process for creating a song would start with the chorus and harmonies first and it would build from there to include melodies and the lyrics for the verses. This piece shows a song that is clearly still a “work in progress” but with a full, finished chorus and harmonies.

PRICE OF FAME
Sometimes a song is written with a story in mind. In Michael’s work notes we found the story for this song – blind obsession. He described the story as “the girls who are over-obsessed with me, who follow me, who almost make me kill myself in my car, who just give their lives to do anything with me, to see me – they’ll do anything and it’s breaking my heart. It’s running me crazy. It’s breaking up my relationship with my girl, with my family. That’s the ‘Price of Fame’.”

AL CAPONE
When you listen to some early demos of songs, you can tell instantly what song it is. This is NOT one of those songs. It is an example of how different a song can be during its early stages of development from its later, finished polished version. If it were not a well known fact that “Smooth Criminal” was developed out of “Al Capone,” it would be hard to know that it had its roots in the material based on listening to this early recording.

Friedman is obviously getting info directly from someone within the Estate or Sony. As the above poster said, it used to be Frank Dileo. I disagree with this because he has written some very nasty articles about MJ. He has also written some incredibly inaccurate ones. The recent one about Don't Be Messin' would be a good example. I think he gets told bits of info and then makes the rest up as he goes along. If anyone is getting exclusives relating to Michael's work then it should be someone more respectable and intelligent like Joe Vogel.

he has liner notes, now?

He's obviously being used for PR if someone is giving him that stuff. Why use him is anybodys guess. He either has an early copy of the album or he has been given a draft of the liner notes.

Again no, he's not currently banned. During the Murray trial time it was decided to allow tabloids to get information faster. Friedman articles have been posted on this forum over and over in multiple different topics such as to Mijac's move to Sony/ATV, recent events surrounding Katherine Jackson's "kidnapping" and at great album debate thread over the last years. This is not the first time, this is not an exception.

Currently Friedman is the only source that has information about the upcoming release of unreleased songs. That's why his articles are posted here. I'm pretty sure people would prefer the info about the unreleased songs over banning the information.

You are all adults and can determine whether to believe everything, nothing or some of what he says. Again this is a section and thread about BAD 25. Can we keep our focus on that and not make this about Roger Friedman. Thank you.

Address a controversial subject but without being judgmental. I'm really curious of this song.

Friedman is as good a choice as anybody else. Yes he has been 'anti' MJ on occassions but he was probably the MOST supportive person in the media in the run up to, during, and since the 2005 trial. He knew it was a farce and he made his feelings very publically clear. We should all be grateful for that. Anyway, this new information from the liner notes is very interesting indeed. I can't wait for the album now!

I find this somewhat hypocritical, given that the last paragraph from the original post has been removed along with members responses to that last paragraph! I encourage people to read Roger Friedman's ACTUAL artical, be it inaccrate or truth.

Is this place a democracy that promotes freedom of speech or something else entirely? I am too old to be patronised and it was the same old story on here with regards the Michael album!

If your going to publish something, publish it in it's entirety, but please don't sugar coat or edit this and then say 'We are all adults'!

It's not any different like Stella always posting stuff from "journalist" Charles Thompson WHILE ignoring the fact Thompson actually knows NOTHING and makes stuff up on many occasions and has a history of RIDICULING/DISSING MJ during his lifetime in previous articles. He recently swapped to rather RIDICULING/DISSING fans instead.

Me too....I love the music that has a story behind it...I mean, pretty much all of Michael's songs have a story...This one definitely has me curious though....

Wow.

Sounds great!!

I just feel a bit like they are releasing this info to move focus from the DVD to the new songs! - And if they wanna move focus quality might not be as good as hoped... :(

I'd say "Go away Friedman! Nobody likes you!". Still cannot wait for Bad 25. I think I'm getting overexcited already.

Oh man, just reading the liner note snippets, damn I can't wait :D

Really excited about hearing these songs now

this reminds me of MJs notes to Little Susie where he wanted to "dig deep in child psychology to bring out her(Susie) problems"

I know! Got to admit felt a little tense when i heard about the song about abortion, didn't the press release say something about it being very personal to mj or something, as it's such a controversial topic, esp in usa where it seems to have been politiicised. If the controversy is all about the balance between a woman's right to choose v the rights of an unborn child, i did kind of assume mj would veer towards the latter. But as ever, he seems to have approached it in an ultra-sensitive way.

I find this somewhat hypocritical, given that the last paragraph from the original post has been removed along with members responses to that last paragraph! I encourage people to read Roger Friedman's ACTUAL artical, be it inaccrate or truth.

We're all aware that roger is just a sh*t stirrer and knows exactly how to rile up the fan community, so don't see why we should oblige him. He's just a nasty piece of work who has shown scant respect for mj. I really hope he got hold of this album through illicit sources rather than official, as i'm fed up having his views on all things mj because he just so happens to have good sources.

I suggest you go on to his website and search Michael Jackson in the articles section. He was consistently abusive and negative toward Michael, mocking him in the most horrid ways. It was far from an occasional thing. He was writing disparaging pieces right up until Michael's death. He's only a good source if you can accept that whatever he says will be completely wrong.
