I think you are right on the mark. Some of the comments of people just smack of *censored*. It is not only annoying, but it is sad at the level of self serving haughtiness and total lack of regard for what Mj did go through in the 00's.
Oh, BTW, Invincible came out in 01. So MJ did release new music in 00's.
People make some stupid and very lazy comments about Michael's career in the 2000's. Also it is a fact that even though Michael's career became "inactive" as opposed to the media's view if his career in free-fall. Michael did still find time to write and record.
I visited the fan forum on the official Janet Jackson web site some years ago. And I was shocked how much hatred her fans had for Michael. I think her fans have more dislike for Michael than any other fans from what I saw. And I'm surprised because I don't think Janet would like or approve of the unfair and lazy comments her fans have said about Michael who is her older brother !
As well as Invincible in 2001. Michael did release some unreleased newly recorded songs from 1999-2004 on the Ultimate Collection Box Set in 2004.
I don't like to put Janet down. But I'm sure Michael's 10 million sales of Invincible sold more than all of Janets 4 album releases that decade combined. Because her music stock went down a lot on the 2000's because of a new bread of starts like Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Britney Spears and Pink. Janet wasn't doing anything different to what they were doing, even though she's influenced them as a female artist some of them caught up to her when she should have been ahead of them. Janet was never super huge in the UK, popular but not huge.
benscarr you hit the nail on the head, plus i don't think he would of done a tour while the kids were so young, hense him waiting all that time for TII. Janet has had it hard this past decade with the whole superbowl thing, but michael had to deal with that on a daily bases.
I'm not too sure if Michael would have toured with Invincible or not. From what I see Michael didn't look very healthy, especially around 2001 and early 2002. And he seemed zapped of energy at his 30th Anniversary concerts at MSG in 2001.
Michael also looked very troubled around the time of the release of Invincible. Stories about Michael being broke started, and all the financial lawsuits by ex accounts and tour promoters etc started. Stories started to appear in the media that the 1993 false abuse claims were to be re-investigated. Tommy Mottolla sabotaging Invincible (I wouldn't be surprised if he leaked false stories in the media). I think Michael knew something very bad was going to happen to him when before Invincible was even released. Because when I saw him at a fan event in 2001, and he briefly spoke about Invincible, he appeared troubled and distracted, and didn't seem to have much enthusiasm for the album. I wouldn't be surprised if he had found out that he was being watched by the FB, and had been so since 1994 etc.
So with all those things, I think Michael might have liked the idea of touring, as he toured with all his solo albums (the Victory Tour was kind a Thriller Tour as it's from the same era). But I think it's most likely the case that due to the dark things happening in his life he it would be impossible to tour with Invincible in 2001-03.
I don't think Michael ever expected the false 2003 allegations would lead him to being charged. Michael was released his Number Ones greatest hits album in November 2003, and he was coming to the UK to promote it and allegedly perform a secret concert in a small nightclub. The "rumor" at the time was that Michael was going to announce some tour dates for 2004 during his stay in the UK. It was said to have been a greatest his tour like the This It It concerts were going to be.
I think the SuperBowl thing did Janet a lot of damage in the USA but her new music was in demand like it once was even before that controversy. I personally think the public just weren't as in to her music as it once was, because of new younger female stars. Otherwise her music would have remained as popular in Europe as it had in the mid 1980's and 90's. There have been far more revealing video still footage (video is online and it's real)of Janet printed in European magazines of her sunbathing in her birthday suit with everything on show, than that mild nipple slip.
I doubt Janet will have a hit album or single anytime soon. But I do hope she has success touring. I'm not really a fan of hers like I said. But I own 3 of her albums, and I saw her Velvet Rope Tour as Wembley Arena in 1998. It was very HIStory Tour - Lite to me. But I was very impressed concert and Janet's performance. She looked great, and I was impressed with her live vocals and think he has a much better singing voice than she's given credit for
