Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here? (Non-debate thread for believers only)

I think I know where you got this crazy idea about me thinking the Catholic Faith is secular. The secular song I was referring to was "Live Like We're Dying" by Kris Allen, which was the second link I put up, if you looked at the links. As far as I know that hasn't been on any Christian or Catholic radio stations, so I assume it was a secular song with a Christian message. I certainly hope that clears things up for you. PM me if you need any more clarification of what I meant.

I jumped on the word secular,my bad

You don't know how much I love the Catholic Faith. And again I've only heard "Live Like We're Dying" only on secular radio stations. There are other songs like that that are secular, so that's what I meant by these songs. Anyway we understand each other then??

Only if you stop using the word in exchange for the word exclusivity.MJ songs are on secular stations all the time.

Live a little

Are You devout or something?

Stop using what word?? I don't get it.
I love our Lord and I love to worship Him by being Catholic. So I hope I answered your question.

Thank you, earthy, and I say the same about you as well. :) I'm glad you liked the links.

So you're obviously Catholic. That's great. Actually I think I remember you introducing yourself on here before. Thank you for your post as well. God forgives us because He is all good and all loving, and of course we can only do good by cooperating with His grace. Although I remembered yesterday was the Feast of St. Joseph, I forgot about Joseph being Michael's middle name and his father's first name. I'm glad you liked the links I provided. I love Shepard Me O God. I really do love that song. And I love the second song as well. It's nice to have secular songs that give such good messages. Anyway, good to see you posting.

Thanks you for your kind words Michelle :) Yeah, it's true - i introduced myself a long time ago; hopefully, i won't be missing for as many months the next time i depart lol. I totally agree with you, it's wonderful to hear positive messages in all music. As any other form of art, music is very powerful because it captures the heart and minds of people, especially young ones, so it is of utmost importance that they be 'exposed' to positive thinking expressed in art. I think the good Lord doesn't mind it, no matter the musical genre or the artist.

Btw of art, i would now like to share with you all one of my favorite moments from Mel Gibson's masterpiece The Passion of the Christ. It is actually connected to the wikipedia link Earth_Song so graciously provided. It is the 'I make all things new' scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOYQzoOz1go - the parallel between the childhood memory and Mary and Jesus' encounter on the Via Crucis is an emotionally devastating moment for anyone watching, really pulling at the heart strings, a stroke of genius on Mr. Gibson's part.

Beyond the controversy associated with it, i gotta say i was sooo glad to see ALL Christian denominations embrace this movie back in 2004 when it was released; a true show of unity, as we should always give the world as true witnesses of Christ.

I remember when I first saw The Passion Of The Christ. It opened on Ash Wednesday and I went with a senior's bible study, as they asked me to go.

That movie moved me to tears, especially the flogging scenes and the crucifixion.

I remember when I first saw The Passion Of The Christ. It opened on Ash Wednesday and I went with a senior's bible study, as they asked me to go.

That movie moved me to tears, especially the flogging scenes and the crucifixion.

I remember watching the movie for the first time on a Sunday; i actually saw it twice at the movie theater, with different people and when the dvd was released i bought it on the first day, unfortunately it broke in the meantime; now they use to give the movie on the tv every Easter season.

I too cried a lot during it - both during that scene i linked and what you said - the flogging and the crucifixion. Unfortunately, those were the realities and no matter how much it pains us, it is always helpful to understand what the Lord went through for each and every single one of us. I believe this is the best movie by far about the last days of Jesus and for a comprehensive look at His entire life i've always loved Jesus of Nazareth from Franco Zefirelli.

From those quotes in Isaiah at the beginning, the menacing music and the full moon to the last shot with Jesus walking triumphantly out of the tomb - the entire movie is a masterpiece. I was actually curious to see how the resurrection would be presented and the shroud losing weight and form was an amazingly brilliant manner to solve that. Jim Kaviezel seems to have been born for this role, he was great, but then again he was great in the Count of Montecristo as well.

I've always thought it was very interesting how they portrayed the enemy (Rosalinda Celentano - one of wonderful Adriano's daughters was great in it) and the relationships to Jesus, Mary and Judas. Also amazing are the scenes with the tear of the Father falling down from the sky starting the quake after Jesus had breathed His last breath and the enemy screaming helpless from an almost empty hell - best believe that scream did take place at 3 p.m. on the day Jesus died and hell could very well be empty one day. The fact that they used Aramaic made it all real and could help you not only see, but hear what it must have been like.

And yeah, i'll try not to be a stranger :), try being the operative word, but i won't make promises i can't keep. God bless you everyone.

Please pray for my mom. She is in the hospital to see what's wrong with her stomach. Please pray that it's nothing serious.

Thanks!

Newbie here. I am a traditional Lutheran who doesn't subscribe to all the reforms in our church. Read between the lines if you can. This has forced me to switch congregations several times with still no satisfaction. I pretty much worship on my own these days. My girls are frankly apathetic. It's frustrating.

I worship on my own too. I can relate. I read my bible and pray at home.

Welcome to the thread.

Welcome! It's nice to have other Lutherans here too. :)

I think there is not huge changes between these? Maybe services have the hugest differences...

My grandpa had knee surgery today and he got through it just fine. I knew he was going to have it done, but no one told me that it was today until I talked to my mom...I wish they'd remind me of such things.

Guys, i wanted to share with you some Bible commentary.

In Your hand is power and might (1 Chronicles 25:12)

The sovereign God of the universe has committed Himself to write the history of earth. But He has willed to do it through people and He invites you and me to respond with chapters of bold accomplishments done in His name. You probably think..."What can i do? It's too much for me". But wait. Remember, the power is HIS! He is the Publisher. He's simply looking for writers. For people who will trust the power of His Holy Spirit to work in the common, ordinary affairs of their daily lives...God offers a blank book of possibilities and asks what are we going to write.

Taken from "Moments with majesty" by Jack Hayford.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2)

People think they can scratch their inner itches by changing their image...changing their wardrobe...changing their cars...changing their careers...or even changing their wives or husbands. But the Word of God warns us against looking for inner peace and satisfaction by making external changes.Only the Lord can bring about a true change or genuine fulfillment and He does it from the inside out, He alone can satisfy a restless heart.

MJJluv, glad to hear your granpa's operation went fine.

Today is the day the ineffable descended into our sin-stricken world to bring us salvation. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Romance 8 - Saint John of the Cross

1. Then He called

The Angel Gabriel

And sent him to

The Virgin Mary,

2. At whose consent

The mystery was wrought,

In whom the Trinity

Clothed the Word with flesh.

3. And though Three work this,

It is wrought in the One:

And the Word lived incarnate

In the womb of Mary.

4. And He who had only a Father

Now had a Mother too,

But she was not like others

Who conceive by man.

5. From her own flesh

He received His flesh,

So He is called

Son of God and of man.
