Re: Any Believers in Jesus Christ Here?
We're supposed to get some snow, but I don't know how much. I wanna go sledding!!!
The last time a friend called me to go sledding, I had the stomach flu and was stuck in bed. I wanna sled, darn it!
The leaders of The Navigators, a Christian college group that I'm in, challenged us to memorize a list of different Scripture passages over break. I hope I can memorize some of them, maybe all. Pray for me as I try doing this and that it leads me closer to the Lord.
personally, i always found that waiting till i'm compelled to open the Bible worked wonders for me, as opposed to trying to read it like studying for finals. being 'compelled' to read it has a certain ring to it. then, later in life, things would happen to me, and appropriate scriptures would come to mind. there's a full-of-life feeling that comes from waiting to be compelled..even though there may not be a set pattern to when i opened the Bible. it felt like God was not into 'practicing' but into 'randomness'. no way am i suggesting that you ignore your study instructions that your teachers gave you...i'm just saying that, somewhere in leisure time..IF you are compelled,...you never know..IDK..
if not compelled..i don't think of it as laziness, though i felt lazy at times, because i stopped studying according to patterns that teachers and preachers used to tell me about doing. it's just that, the Bible didn't really start applying to my life, till i left the church and naturally lost interest in the Bible. that's when it hit me, and i started getting interested, for real. and that's when the Bible came alive for me. and that 'new form' of studying became acquainted with me.(as opposed to me becoming acquainted with it)(yes, it was like the Bible was now coming to me, instead of me trying to come to the Bible.) i imagine i'm trying to say, that i had a hard time treating the Bible like a regular book.
now, when scriptures come to my mind, the number and book of the Bible does not come to my mind. just the words of the scripture. so, i started using key words and googling, and that's how i found the books and the numbers of those scriptures. for me, typed in 'autorized king james bible simple searches' every time a key phrase or entire scripture came to mind. and that's how i find scriptures, today. for me, personally, i became dissolussioned (sp) with how people were treating each other in churches i was in, so i left. but then, it became easier to keep my relationship with Christ, after i left, too.
