Austin Brown has a NEW single

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

Austin is not using Michael's name, being related or having any relation to Michael Jackson will cause the media to link the two. Michael was an inspiration to millions and that included members of his family. If people actually watched the video they'd see Austin also Mentioned his super star Aunt Janet as well, she gave him advice the day he was shooting his video and I'm sure he looks up to her as well. If people have an issue with Janet or Rebbie or whomever you shouldn't take it out on Austin. Bitterness is unappealing.

Listening to Mike's siblings I don't think he inspired them to do anything

Michael Jackson's Nephew Austin Brown Releases First Single
'I can't help where I come from, but I love where I come from, so I just do music and I create,' Austin Brown says.
By Steven Roberts

The name Austin Brown may not ring any bells, but he is the youngest son of Rebbie "Centipede" Jackson, and, of course, the nephew of the late Michael Jackson. Brown, a talented and versatile singer, songwriter, producer and dancer, is ready to carry on the Jackson family business for the next generation. But he isn't necessarily looking to live off the family's fame.

"Music is in my heart," Brown said. "It's what I love to do. I can't help where I come from, but I love where I come from, so I just do music and I create."

Brown said he grew up listening to everything from Boyz II Men and George Michael to the Beatles. And while such a diverse musical taste isn't uncommon with the iPod generation of today, the singer said he loved to sit around and dissect what makes each artist special. He'd listen and wonder what about the Beatles inspired Brian Wilson's (of the Beach Boys) work, which in turn inspired the Beatles.

Brown also loves to perform, which he said started when his mom first took him onstage. "She was doing a show in Japan and I was about 3," said Brown. "When I first looked up, there was all of these things onstage — gargoyles and all this weird stuff at the club. And I got scared and kind of ran off, but I paused when I ran off. So my mom tried it again the next day, and I danced my heart off after that."

Some 20 years later, Brown has teamed up with super-producer Rodney Jerkins and is set to release his debut album, 85. The title represents what Brown has learned from music throughout his life.

"He had the vision," explained Jerkins. "He said, 'It's going to be called 85.' Why 85? 'Because that was the year I was born and in '85 this artist came out, and the music sounded like this. We've got to be inspired by this.' The whole thing we kept trying to do was create a sound that makes you want to dance and feel good."

The album's first single, "Target Practice," debuted Monday on Brown's website, and the video will follow. Brown said it doesn't look anything short of stunning.

"It was directed by a man by the name of Tom DeSanto, who is the producer of 'Transformers' and 'X-Men,' and it was such a blessing to get him for my first video," he said.

"He's downplaying it for me," Jerkins said. "Your first video and you've got the producer of 'Transformers'? How did you get him from the movie world? Most people go from making music videos to the movie world. He's coming from the movie world to the video world."

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

for me personally, no Jackson has the special umph x factor of Michael. but that's just me. i mean, when i heard the Austin song, i forgot it, and then, in my head, i heard 'We Are Here To Change The World'...and i suddenly got..that 'feeling' that i love so much. and that's for every one of the songs Michael ever sang, no matter what technical things people may say about them.
but technically speaking, the Target Practice song made me tap my feet, anyway. it is different from the norm, in a good way, outside of Michael i.m.o.

in fact, from now on i'll just put Mike on a shelf, because he's in a special class of his own, so when i say 'outside the norm', i mean, for everybody else, outside Michael.

I agree. I heard the Austin Brown clip a few times, but it really did nothing for me. There's nothing special or unique about this kid (in my opinion) so other then having Jackson blood, I don't think he'll be a mega star or anything.

I think Michael had a gift from the heaven's that can't be duplicated. Like Liz said "Memorize this to yourself; I have witnessed genius in my lifetime". Michael was special. The end. Not even Janet Jackson (who I actually like and did succeed) doesn't have that special gift. None of them do. Not even 3T.

I hope Austin Brown is successful anyway.

Just watched the Access Hollywood interview. He's good, but what's amazing is that his mother Rebbie is 60!!!! Those Jackson genes should be bottled.

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

Woah, I didn't know he could dance like that!
The video looks cool, he has the producer of 'Transformers' and 'X-Men'?!
I look forward to seeing the whole thing.

I think the song is a grower. I do like it, but it has to grow on me more.
I like the instruments at the beginning, and the song is structured nicely, it's kinda different to a lot of what is out there.

Guys, come on, Auggie is not using MJ's name.

If you read and listen to interviews he hardly mentions him at all, it is the media. He talks more about his mother.

It's going to be a bit difficult to avoid having MJ's name mentioned when your his nephew and he is such a giant in the industry. If MJ's name wasn't mentioned, there would be something wrong.

In fact, I want him to talk about MJ more, so the general public can see a side to MJ that the media doesn't show, you know, as a loving uncle. People don't actually realise MJ had nephews and nieces, and the love they shared.

Those mentioning Janet..actually on AOL homepage the other day the headline used to click to the story said:

'JANET JACKSON'S NEPHEW'

...not Michael Jackson's.

He is aware what people may say, hence the comment: 'I can't help where I come from, but I love where I come from, so I just do music and I create,'.

in fact, from now on i'll just put Mike on a shelf, because he's in a special class of his own, so when i say 'outside the norm', i mean, for everybody else, outside Michael.

Of course. I've done that for a long time. Trying to compare anyone to the TOTALITY of what 'Michael Jackson' was and is, is not possible.. other than to say 'they do not compare'.

With that said, I wish Austin every success. I want to hear more, definitely. I see him competing with Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, and the like..they better watch out 'cause this is someone with authentic Jackson flavour!

He's so cute! The song is ok+, lets see the new album..maybe there will be better songs!

This is the one massive problem Austin will face as a musician... he will always be compared to Michael. He's hardly even set foot into the music scene and already people are putting his efforts down by comparisons. There will never be another Michael and I'm sure Austin knows that but that is no reason why he should not try and be successful in is own right. I actually really like the song... I don't like it because he's related to Michael, I just think its a decent song and for that reason I would probably buy his album.

I don't think Austin needs to try and compete with Michael's success and it would be foolish if he did. He should just do his own thing and people will like him for his talent and not for who he is related to.

^^^^

Well, Austin is being promoted as "MJ's nephew". What did you expect? And I'm not talking only about the press. It is the strategy to promote him.

I don't like Rebbie but I wish Austin success. But unfortunately he lost the opportunity to be recognized by your own efforts --- the name is Austin Brown, not Austin Jackson.

LOL

If people exploit their "Jackson" link/surname, you get upset. If people don't do it, you get suspicous. So... what is the point in this? Let's hope the guy will do good if he's got the right stuff. I am certain MJ has the biggest influence on him, but, c'mon!! His surname is Brown, not Jackson, and I guess he will not change his father for his uncle, as much as he loves him. Why would he do that? Just to profit on the "Jackson" link, so what's wrong with him not using Jackson?

Seriously.... I really don't understand some complains, people . If they do, we complain, but if they don't, we complain too. It's always a No-win situation. Always!

Let they guy to their thing. He IS a Jackson. Period. The rest is up to him.

it's just the media dubbing him as mj's nephew but anyway wish him best of luck

Aint nothing wrong with that lol, honestly...MICHAEL F**KING JACKSON is his uncle, his BLOOD relative...why shouldn't they use it? (And hell HE should use it as well) I mean come on...it's MJ. If MJ was YOUR uncle, I'm sure you would be proud to claim it too.

i know, his uncle was an incredible teacher to him musically and as a person, but you know the media will always try to comapre talents just like that did with janet, who had a great career i remember she was in japan promothing discipline and just called by king of pop little sister it's just how they media are i mean she is his little sister lol, but she made a name for herself concering the music industry

What are you talking about? Who is complaining here?
I know some of you are allergic to opinions, but try to understand what we write. I wish success to Austin. I do not see a problem with him using the name Jackson.

I think he missed a great opportunity. Because his name is Austin Brown, not Jackson, he could have tried the success without using the name Jackson. But I'm not complaining.

lol. comes with the territory in the real world. comes with following such a legendary genius. and, is a deserved compliment to that legendary genius, Michael Jackson. people have their thoughts. that's just the way it is. the media started this and fans are just following. and thinking what they truly feel in their hearts. and frankly, it's appreciated. we don't want nonrealness. we have to make space for each others' opinions.

5 Things to Know About Michael Jackson's Nephew, Singer Austin Brown
By Jessica Herndon

Saturday October 02, 2010 02:00 PM EDT

At the age of three Austin Brown stepped on stage with mom Rebbie Jackson during her concert in Japan, took one look at the enormous crowd and hustled backstage. He certainly wasn't the spotlight-grabbing type of Jackson fans were used to.

Twenty-one years later, Brown has his stage fright in check, his dance moves polished and has released a new hand-clapping, bass heavy single "Target Practice," from his debut album 85.

A natural musician who plays guitar, keyboards, bass and drums, Brown, 24, grew up in Agoura Hills, Ca. where Uncle Michael coached him on his harmonies and Auntie Janet took him on drives and peppered him with advice.

Here are five things to know about the King of Pop's musical nephew.

1. He's a Pro at Gymnastics
With the desire to take his stage show to the next level, Brown started taking gymnastics classes about a year ago. "I told [producer] Rodney [Jerkins], 'I'm going to flip.' He was like, 'You're out of your mind.' So I started taking footage of it and I was like, 'Look I can do a back flip.' "

2. Alcohol Helps Him Hit the High Notes
His tune "All I Need" requires a heavy falsetto and to relax his pipes, Brown popped a bottle of wine. "I don't drink at all, but I'm like, "Get me some wine" and I loosened up."

3. Auntie Janet Is His Best Friend
"She is the person that I talk to the most in my family," he says. "She knows everything about me. If I couldn't tell my mom, I would tell her. She would take drives with me and talk to me like I was a normal person. When you're a kid it's cool to talk to a relative who doesn't look at you like a kid. She really took the time to spend with me and be a support system. I would call her about problems at school and she would give me sound advice. She's a great listener."

4. He Was a Bratty Little Brother
Big sisters Stacy and Yashi used to yell at him when he'd dig through their CD collection. "I would listen to their music like Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, Billy Idol and Tears for Fears, who I loved."

5. He Wants Rihanna to Remake His Mom's Hit
"I absolutely love [Centipede]," he says. "My uncle Michael wrote it and he and I talked about it years ago and he said it was one of his favorite songs that he ever worked on. I wish somebody would redo it, like Rihanna."

This is a Jackson who wants to earn money by working. I like Austin and wish him all the best! :)

if the song gets enough radio airplay, it sounds like a hit. it doesn't have the magic imo that gives it the power to sell even if there is no radio help, but it feels like it could go somewhere, if exposed enough..and with the people magazine article...that feels like a good start.

Great song! I hope that he'll get famous like other artist!
He has a nice voice!(; I wish him all the best!

Yup! and also remember he is offering this song for free download..so of course he is not gonna put out his best on the album :) He put out something that was groovy enough to capture people's attention. But I still love the song.:D Also, glad he independent..so he ain't got to worry about folks leaking his stuff and if it do get out..he can pin-point it..cause not too many people should have the master copy of the CD! lol!

Seriously..Mike came out with "Off The Wall" it did good but it was also a pre-cursor for "Thriller". Not saying Austin gonna do a Thriller...just an example. If not for Mike's "Off The Wall"..who know's how Thriller would have done. So you gotta start somewhere.

but off the wall had dstyge...i never heard anything like that in my life. that was a magic song. and i heard it through word of mouth..and not radio. only later did i hear that dstyge was a number 1 single on radio. that's the kind of song u want..one that everybody comes up with a knock off version of. and many people did. but you are right that you gotta start somewhere.
