^^ Cool! He's got a great voice! You can hear that classic Jackson sound in some parts...When he used a falsetto, I could hear Michael  I love the beat of the song! Thanks for posting :flowers:

I like this song. Austin has good harmonies and his falsetto is very Michael-esque.

Austin Brown, 'Target Practice' -- Song Premiere

Twenty-four year-old Austin Brown describes his debut single, the Rodney Jerkins-produced 'Target Practice,' as having a "Gloria Gaynor-inspired melody, kind of disco-y, but new age." He also says the track was influenced by the Daft Punk, Ed Banger sound, "and the energy that those songs bring."

That diversity is normal for Brown, who cites influences such as the Beach Boys, Eddie Kendricks, Frankie Lymon, George Michael, Prince and many more. So, where does a 24-year-old develop that sense of music history?

"My mom really would always sit with me and show me what inspired her, so if it was watching 'That's Entertainment' and watching Cyd Charisse, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, that's what she grew up on and that's what she showed me, early Elvis videos," Brown tells PopEater. "My mom always knew and always made sure to make it very important that I had a knowledge of where things came from. That's where my whole interest in music really started from -- my mom really schooling me on the basics."

Brown's mom is Rebbie Jackson, eldest sister of the legendary Jackson clan, so he had some of the best teachers in music. "When I was 12 years old my uncle Michael bought me a portable DVD player when they just came out and bought me 'Purple Rain,'" Brown recalls. "That's how much of a Prince fan I was. The DVD player, I thought that was cool, but when I saw 'Purple Rain' I freaked out and screamed."

As Brown steps into the spotlight, he knows he'll be closely watched by Jackson's fervent fans. "They're amazing. They're loving, heartfelt, loyal and they just support anything and everything that's his. It's one of the most amazing, loving things and he was so devoted to his fans," Brown says. "It's something I grew up seeing my whole life, so it's just how it's been."

"My uncle's the greatest to ever do it, period, and he did it for everyone who's in music," Brown adds. "He's influenced everyone, including myself, and I'm just a new artist who loves making songs and is stepping into this like anybody else."

I like the voice of Austin. :wild: He's talented. I wish much success to him. :punk:

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

lol..i don't see why some people worry about the continuation of MJ music selling and his continuous legacy with or without radio, with all the media mentionings of MJ's nephew first before saying Austin is Rebbie's son, or Janet's nephew, etc...but..passion is what it is..

some might call it brave or whatever for him to step out now, but, certainly the song sounds nice...i hope nobody tries to remix it, before it has a chance to get out.

ironically, to me, he sounds, vocally, like Chris Brown, but the music is stronger than anything Brown ever put out.

Nice song! I like his falsetto! Can't wait for his video and he is good looking too!;) He got those Jackson eyes!

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

The video at Access Hollywood is gone. :(

Oh well, I will have to listen to the songs a few more times. I do not know if I like it. But everyone doesn't have to like it. I can definitely end on a positive note and say' "Good for him. I hope he does well."

lol...i think there may be mixed messages sent about how to treat a Jackson..lol...

personally, if a person doesn't like a song, they don't like a song. period. if that is the note you end on...

well..that isn't wrong in this case, is it?

if i'm wrong, i'm all for hearing about it...lol.

i mean, i always wondered about this notion that if a person doesn't like a song, or if it doesn't hit them, the first time, they must feel obligated to take a second listen.

shooot..if i'm a and r, and the song don't hit me the first time, that's it. that's all she wrote. lol

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

Well, there have been many times where I heard a song for the first time and I didn't really like it. But, I heard it at a later time and I started to really love it. I figure, if I don't hate a song, I will give it a few more hearings to see if maybe my feelings change.
It is not because he is a Jackson, but it is just how I approach music.
Many things affect my mood (I'm a moody person. Can't you tell? Although I really try to work on it :ninja:). And so many things can affect why I don't like something at a particular time that I just like to be sure before I say conclusively that I don't like something.

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

yeah..i get what you're saying. many things can affect that. a song speaks to us on a different level that a person speaking to us, or something..
and..whether or not people think it's logical or fair, or whatever, any given thing at any given moment, certainly can have an affect on how someone approaches a song. anything from general rebellion, to biased like, to what a person had for breakfast.

yes..ur right.. i do understand.

for me personally, no Jackson has the special umph x factor of Michael. but that's just me. i mean, when i heard the Austin song, i forgot it, and then, in my head, i heard 'We Are Here To Change The World'...and i suddenly got..that 'feeling' that i love so much. and that's for every one of the songs Michael ever sang, no matter what technical things people may say about them.
but technically speaking, the Target Practice song made me tap my feet, anyway. it is different from the norm, in a good way, outside of Michael i.m.o.

in fact, from now on i'll just put Mike on a shelf, because he's in a special class of his own, so when i say 'outside the norm', i mean, for everybody else, outside Michael.

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

Well I got inspiration to make up dance routine to his song for my class! If I get that feeling off the bat! Then the song is off da hook! What me wrote on FB earlier when I heard the song! lol!
Instantaneous chills from a good groove! Something that actually has a nice Beat, melody, Bridge & Chorus all in the right syncopation! And I get tummy butterflies from the chords! There are only a few artist who can do that :)

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

looks like Austin is on his way

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

I have to say I hate it when people uses Michael's name to promote someone/something, but that's totally inevitable in this case.

It will be terribly difficult for him to avoid comparison, for watching the video and his looks there, you can't but think of... well... MJ. And they're family! I hope he will make his own way. I liked the song very much and the video looks great.

He is MJ's nephew and that's part of him and that is great, but also, a heavy burden when it comes to a constan comparison.

If he is a great artist, if he works hard enough, if he has the right stuff and if he is willing to give his best, then this should work.
All the best to Mr. Brown.
I hope we will get to know / ear more about him for himself, not only for Michael

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

Why doesn't he use his megastar auntie's name too? :dunno:

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

i wonder if he's going the indie route cus of how the labels treated his uncle..or, just cus he just wants to go the indie route..or somn..

LOL...I hope you are joking. Austin was with a major label and was close to releasing his 1st album when the second circus rolled into MJtown.

I love Austin. I am rooting for him. But the song is average at best..I am hoping this is a "I just can't stop loving you" or "The girl is mine" situation, and the other singles are better.

Looking forward to the album.

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

well i just watched that video of cambio, and he was being interviewed, and i heard them mention about him going indie.

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

I don't think he's using Michael's name but if Michael was yo uncle and he inspired you..wouldn't you let people know MJ was your family too? That man is working hard on his music, doing the video's and dancing. Maybe Rebbie did not inspire him for what he is doing at this particular moment. Michael did.

Just as Michael was influenced by Fred Astaire and James Brown but he made those styles/influence his own and I can see Austin doing that. If he did not mention MJ and say he want to make it on his own then folks would say something. Give the brother a chance.

I wish Austin Much success! His heart is humble and he loves Music. We need that in today's Music Biz.

I think people should peep this and see how MJ was also inspired! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKanPsUjP7w

Re: Austin Brown will be on AH 9/27/2010 & has a new single

Austin is not using Michael's name, being related or having any relation to Michael Jackson will cause the media to link the two. Michael was an inspiration to millions and that included members of his family. If people actually watched the video they'd see Austin also Mentioned his super star Aunt Janet as well, she gave him advice the day he was shooting his video and I'm sure he looks up to her as well. If people have an issue with Janet or Rebbie or whomever you shouldn't take it out on Austin. Bitterness is unappealing.
