Controversial pop star Michael Jackson wants to commemorate his 50th birthday today by sponsoring school equipment for the poorest of Poland’s children.



Michael Jackson will distribute the gifts via his Polish fans, who will celebrate their idol’s 50th birthday at the fifth annual “MJowisko” event in Lodz, central Poland, tomorrow.



“We expect about a hundred children to attend our event to commemorate the King of Pop’s birthday”, said Kinga Zaborowska, the organiser of the event, quoted on the TVP Info web site.



The festivities of *****’s fans will include a competition for the best performer of Jackson’s moonwalk dance. The fans will also cut a birthday cake and watch the film “Ghosts”, featuring their idol.



In spite of its small-scale, the Polish “MJowisko” event is one of the most respected and recognised events among Michael Jackson’s fans worldwide.



“We are usually compared to similar events in Los Angeles and London. Last year we got a special letter from Michaela, thanking us for the memory about his birthday”, admitted Zaborowska.



Michael Jackson is said to be spending his birthday at home, alone today. He will thank his fans for remembering about the special day in a press announcement to be published today.



Some years ago Jackson was said to be looking in to opening a theme park in Warsaw but the plans never came to fruition. (mj)

I wonder if someday they could write something not insulting MJ... why always make a fool of him or make fun of him? Don't get it, doesn't have any sense if not only to portray him as worse as they can...

At least it is nice he hasn't been compared to some other artist for his birthday like it has been for someone of his own age who have to be compared to him for some not so hidden motivation.

Thank you for clarifying. I was hoping a Polish fan would see it and either confirm or clarify. It seemed odd to me that if it were true we hadn't heard about it via the fans. Why do you think the paper wrote that?

MTV lost their appeal years ago. Besides, MJ said he wants to spend as much time with his children as possible. Good for you MJ. Gotta set priorities. And children ALWAYS come first. No question about it. Not too many kids are as lucky to have a Dad like MJ, willing to put his plans on hold just to spend quality time with them. Those children are truly blessed. No question about it.

Listening to those songs reminds me of why I am a fan of this great guy. They played almost all of his hits: "WBSS", "Can't Help It", "Off The Wall", "Human Nature", "Thriller", "Liberian Girl", "Butterflies", "Show Me the Way To Go", "Dancing Machine", "ABC", "Remember the Time", "I Can't Let Her Get Away", "I Want You Back", etc. Just awesome. One of the djs even wished MJ a happy birthday.

Friday was a great day for us, it felt like it was my birthday with the interview (lovely surprise) most TV channels/news outlets were quite commemerative of Michaels 50th (of course you always get the odd few) but on the whole, quite good. When Michael brings out his new Album every channel and their mama will be fighting for him :wild: I think the losers know who they are :tease:

true in a way but if you notice, the mainstream has begun going 50s/60s/70s soul retro crazy ever since Amy Winehouse's success. people are following on the trend of the Mark Ronson sound now, and it's not even neo-soul (e.g. Butterflies), it's just more rock&roll/soul-ish with a dash of jazz.

i think Mike could capitalise on this on at least a couple of tracks. Mark Ronson/Raphael Saadiq being the best picks imo. when he took this sort of risk with Invincible during the less-commercial neo-soul wave, he produced one of his best tracks ever (Butterflies).

Instead, this was ***** ***** impersonator "Navi" - though some of his thrilled fans appeared not to realise the difference.

Police had to be on hand to break up some of the chaotic scenes as Navi gave a quick "moonwalk" to mark the release of a new greatest hits album.

More than 150 Michael Jackson fans turned up to recreate his dance moves as part of a "flashmob" stunt organised online.

But London tourists caught up in the chaos looked a little baffled by the fuss.

After all, the man hasn't had a top five hit for five long years.

Batten – aka Ax Mama Guitarist - is back in San Diego as part of her 28 USA city tour promoting her solo album CD/DVD, WhatEver, coming out next week. The lady can not only play an electronica version of Rimskij-Korsokov's The Flight of the Bumble Bee, but she can also shred up strings as fast as furious as any Blackmore, Iommi, or Nugent you've ever banged your head to.
After doing three world tours with Michael Jackson, she holds the distinction of having performed for around 1.5 billion TV viewers in 80 countries, when she appeared with Jackson in a Super Bowl performance.
Her solo show at Dizzy’s on September 3 will be a one-woman performance, described as a multimedia-to-the-music event. Tickets are $15. Batten’s WhatEver CD/DVD is available at www.batten.com, and copies will be sold at the show.
