Dame Elizabeth Taylor has been hospitalized due to a heart condition.

A rep for the iconic actress tells ET, "Elizabeth Taylor was hospitalized earlier this week when she was taken to Cedars Sinai suffering from symptoms caused by congestive heart failure, an ongoing condition. This issue is being addressed. She is currently being kept in the hospital for monitoring.

"Her family and close friends are appreciative of the warm support and interest of her loyal fans but have asked that people respect her privacy and allow her medical team the time and space to focus on restoring her back to health."

The actress underwent heart surgery involving repairing a "leaky valve" back in 2009, and tweeted after that procedure, "Dear Friends, My heart procedure went off perfectly. It's like having a brand new ticker. Thank you for your prayers and good wishes."

Elizabeth Taylor Treated in Hospital for Heart Failure

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, the eight-times married screen legend, is being treated in hospital in Los Angeles for congestive heart failure.

The actress was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in America earlier in the week but her latest medical setback was only reported on Friday evening.

London-born Dame Elizabeth, 78, has been in bad health and wheelchair-bound for several years.

"Elizabeth Taylor was hospitalised earlier this week ... suffering from symptoms caused by congestive heart failure, an ongoing condition," her spokeswoman Sam Morrison said in a statement. "This issue is being addressed. She is currently being kept in the hospital for monitoring."

The statement continued: "Her family and close friends are appreciative of the warm support and interest of her loyal fans but have asked that people respect her privacy and allow her medical team the time and space to focus on restoring her back to health."

Dame Elizabeth had heart surgery in 2009 to replace a leaky valve and has a long history of health problems.

She was too frail to attend a celebration of her work with her long-standing Aids charity in New York on Wednesday evening. A special award honouring her achievements was presented in her absence.

The actress won two Oscars in the 1960s, for her roles in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Butterfield 8.

But she is now as well known for a colourful personal life that included two tempestuous marriages to Welsh film star Richard Burton as her screen career.

I've just tweeted her, I'm guessing that would be the easiest way to show support for her, wishing her a comfortable and speedy recovery. I think we'll always love her for her friendship with Michael nevermind her career as an actress and all her work for AIDs charities. It's so sad to see her struggling with her health when she has so much she wants to do and say.

I woke from sleep and the tv was still on msnbc and I saw the report of Dame Elizabeth..my thoughts flashed to this thread when it's earlier status was 'tabloid report'..but I see this is now true...

I pray for her I truely hope she's doing better.
