Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]
i think they should follow the trend set by beyonce and release the album completely unexpected on iTunes with the last photoshoots as a bonus! that'd be immense, and then when it's out they can advertise it EVERYWHERE & they'll have more of a chance to reach number one, especially having no leaks of the other song's to be featured! i would LOVE that, i know other people will also
should also get it promoted on the itunes home page with a video montage and a snippet of a brand new never before heard song!
NONONONONONONONO - VERY FEW artists could properly pull that off, and almost no-one could pull that off to the success Beyonce did (430,000+ sales in the first day alone!). Almost every other big artist this year (Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga) has struggled to move that amount in a WEEK. If they, or pretty much any other star, tried this, they would get EATEN ALIVE and at this point in time, I feel Michael would fit in that category. Yes, Michael Jackson is an incredibly successful artist, but his ability to shift albums at the moment is not as powerful as Beyonce's atm and honestly, I don't see the MJ album being that successful if it comes out suddenly unannounced. Success aside, he will also be branded a copycat. I can't really explain my reasons for doing so, I just have a strong feeling that this Beyonce album no-hype sudden release was pretty much a one-time only thing and it's pretty much unprecedented, especially to this scale, that every single album after it that attempts the same thing will be compared to it. Honestly, I would so love to be proven wrong and I would LOVE to see MJ pull that off too, but I'm just being honest. Posthumous releases don't tend to have the same force as releases by current artists,
And it's because of that I agree with you on the last point: the upcoming Michael Jackson album needs
A LOT of promotion. We're already at a disadvantage because Michael isn't here! It would be very beneficial for The Estate to do a deal with iTunes and prominently feature the new Michael Jackson in the weeks leading UP to the release and AFTER the release with a video montage and snippets on the Store homepage to help promote it. The second you announce the album, give us a song! When they announced the 20/20 Experience (the most successful album this year with a prior-to-release marketing campaign), they immediately gave us a song from JT that helped build up a hype! You got the hype of a new album PLUS a new song! I remember seeing banners for Bad 25 BEFORE the release, but none after. Like come on, really? That's ****ing STUPID! The iTunes Store is a forefront for music advertising these days and it gets MILLIONS of unique hits every day. If you advertise prominently, and offer new material right away, PEOPLE WILL NOTICE - especially with the name of
MICHAEL JACKSON! Sure, these days he might not be able to push a new unannounced album like Beyonce has, but his name still means something and commands respect! He still has an AMAZING chance to be successful in the first week if the Estate play their cards right!
If they can take advertising serious for once and advertise it with a STRONG and POWERFUL marketing campaign, then I have a good feeling this upcoming album has the potential to do well. If they can come up with a unique way to advertise this album too (that will actually turn people's heads, like what Beyonce did), that would be very beneficial too.
