Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Exactly, this is our concern. I think renaming the song would be enough to be honest but as I've said before I can see why some of you would want some lyrics altered/removed.

But for anyone to change that into this is actually quite sick and perverted by these people, not MJ. The song clearly isn't about that and when the lyrics are presented hopefully they would see this.

Oh yes, I certainly agree that the people who change it into that are the ones who are sick and perverted, but at the end of the day, if the song's nature is twisted into something completely BS, it will still reflect badly on MJ. Many people will not even bother to properly listen to the song, they might just read the title ('New W.acko J.acko song details children being sexually abused! 'Do You Know Where Your Children Are?') and/or skim through the article that twists the lyrics of the song, believing it's lies to be true. Of course, a number of people will recognise the crap the tabloid is spewing out and call it out on it's BS, but a good number will believe this crap and spread these lies even further.

That is why we want the song title to be changed at least, so the likelihood of this happening is reduced as much as possible and I personally believe the title being changed to something like "Do You Know (12 O'Clock)" will dramatically reduce the chances of some idiotic tabloid twisting it into something it's not. By the time you start hearing about the sexual abuse of underage person's in the song, it's quite late into it so hopefully everyone will recognise the true serious nature of the song. I too hope that, if released, people will actually listen to the song lyrics and recognise what it's truly about.

Idk, I'm just worried that, with a title like 'Do You Know Where Your Children Are', some stupid-ass critic will try and twist the song's nature and title into something related to his allegations of pedophilia/child molestation and like everyone else here, I don't want that.

Well, if some journalists were able to turn TDCAU into an "anti-semitic" song then obviously they'd also attempt to turn this into something controversial. And like we saw with TDCAU many people just follow what the media tells them like sheep without even checking out for themselves and thinking for themselves. It's sad but it's what it is.

On the other hand I don't like when people tamper with Michael's work - change lyrics, change the story etc. The same way I did not like the fact Hollywood Tonight was changed. I mean you do not tamper with great artists' work, you do not change Romeo and Juliet just because you do not like something in it. So IMO Michael's work should be approached with the same respect. If the Estate feels DYWYCA could be twisted by the media then just leave it in the vault until this hysteria around MJ dies down and release it at a later time.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Let's not forget that the estate advised Teddy Riley to edit out the "she's only fifteen" line on Hollywood Tonight because it would have turned a few heads. I love DYKWYCA, I listen to it regularly, but is it worth it to have yet another reason for anti-MJ folks to make fun of him?

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Stuff changing the name of any song title. As a Mum my first thoughts were purely about - do you really know where your children are - as in who are they out with - do you know for a fact they are where they say they are and are they safe - you need to keep a closer eye on them. Do you really think Michael would have changed the name - absolutely not. It takes away the integrity of the song.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

If they change the name of the song, or alter any of the lyrics it won't be the same in my opinion. No one should have to hide one of Mike's masterpieces because of some crappy tabloids and some sick people. It's obvious what Michael meant in the song--it gives a good message. And I think that's just what we need

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

It's like Rolf Harris telling Picasso he's used too much paint. It's stupid, either let this gem rot for the sake of a few 'opinions' or put a great, fairly modern sounding MJ track out there.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I really do NOT like the idea of changing the lyrics!

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

sick of companies changing his music, he has always been innocent & proven so by a jury. even though the court case should have never happened. -_-

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I think changing the name would be okay. If they went with 'Do You Know (12 Oclock)' and released the song on an anniversary edition of Dangerous would be okay.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I Am A Loser should be renamed Loser so the press don't come up with some 'Jack.o self-loathed' crap right? I fail to see what changing the name will do. Either put it on there or ignore it completely.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Hmmm well you guys do raise some interesting points, and I no longer think they should alter the lyrics now because as I said, any mention of sexual abuse that the critics would use against Michael is quite late into the song, at which point anyone with half a brain would realize what he's actually singing about (and I think it does tamper TOO much with the song). Ruin the impact of the song too when you come to think of it. Changing the name probably won't do much either but I'm still fine with the idea of just changing the name and wouldn't mind if they did it. If they do, they do. If they don't, they don't. The tabloids will probably find a way to twist the song anyway regardless of the song name tbh.

Just out of curiosity, while we're on the topic, do we actually know that Michael called the song 'Do You Know Where Your Children Are', or are we just assuming that's the name because he repeats it in the chorus? I think that DYKWYCA is likely the name of the song but I was just wondering if fans know of another possible title he called it by or if it's just simply DYKWYCA?

It could be called something else possibly but I think it is DYKWYCA.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Anyone with brain can listen to DYKWYCA right now on Youtube or when and if it's officially released and realize MJ is talking about a real issue and raising awareness about it and only that! So screw the media and those with a dirty mind if they happen to twist what he is tryin to say! Though if u pay attention to the lyrics it's quite obvious he only cares! So don't need to change MJs lyrics for fear of a bunch of mindless fools! Censoring MJ would be a major no, no! Let's not fall into their trap! I would be pissed if they do this! Now changing the title I wouldn't mind, simply because 12' Clock just sounds cooler! But, would be fine too if they just let it be as well!

It was referenced under that name during Michael's 1993 Mexico court deposition, so I'm pretty sure that's the only lasting title for it.

Ooh ok, thanks! :)

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

If I was a movie director I would use DYKWYCA in a movie about the sexindustry in the US.

Definitely agree. I mean, despite the media's ridiculous reaction to TDCAU it lives on because it is a great song with an important message. Didn't I just read on here the other day that this is Michael's short film with the most views on YouTube? Clearly it still speaks to a LOT of people, almost 20 years later! THAT is what is important right? Is it really worth sacrificing this for some disposable tabloid garbage? Personally, I don't really think so.

DYKWYCA is an awesome song with lyrics that mean something (especially in today's world), it really shouldn't be altered or hidden or given less attention than it deserves out of fear of some sick media speculation. I don't think Michael would want the artistic integrity of his music to be dictated by what the media may or may not say about it. Of course no one wants sensationalist headlines attached to it, but I don't really think its worth giving in to some weird form of censorship. Tabloids will ultimately be forgotten in a few weeks, months, whatever but the music itself can live on forever.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Really hope that we get at least 12 songs. 5-6 leaked which are already known by the hardcore fans, 4-5 tracks which we know that they exist and 1-2 songs we never heard anything. And it would be great when we get 2 demos as bonustracks. Especially Hollywood tonight and the Escape demo. The 5 second snippet from Escape makes me noisy for more. It sounded so dark and much more powerful.

I havent heard the demo clip of escape but im gonna go look now. I do enjoy the version that was released though.

That clip is fake. :notworking:
I would want a 16-track album (mmm... maybe I am exaggerating, let's say 12), just like „Invincible”, with the majority of the songs unleaked and 2-3 of them never heard-about-them before. This is the CD 1, with the remixed songs. CD 2 is with the original versions

Yeah, 16 is too long to be honest. I think it's best if we stick to 10-12, that way the album is not too long, and we have more material for next time :)

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

When do you guys think will be the most likely time they will make an official announcement? next month?

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I'm thinking it will come in April/May, ready for a June release.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

For some reason i have a strong feeling the album will be released either in March or April in which case we should get an announcement either January or February.

I have a feeling it'll come out around then too. I've noticed they tend to announce albums ~3 months before so yeah, it's likely to be announced around the times you suggested.

Wouldn't it be cool if around Christmas Day they announced it as a surprise to fans?

I mean I doubt that'll happen and I'm certainly not letting my hopes up, but if it did happen it'd be a nice little christmas present to MJ fans hehe.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

i think they should follow the trend set by beyonce and release the album completely unexpected on iTunes with the last photoshoots as a bonus! that'd be immense, and then when it's out they can advertise it EVERYWHERE & they'll have more of a chance to reach number one, especially having no leaks of the other song's to be featured! i would LOVE that, i know other people will also :D should also get it promoted on the itunes home page with a video montage and a snippet of a brand new never before heard song!

i agree with you, tabloids and bad people will twist anything and publish lies for profit.

NONONONONONONONO - VERY FEW artists could properly pull that off, and almost no-one could pull that off to the success Beyonce did (430,000+ sales in the first day alone!). Almost every other big artist this year (Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga) has struggled to move that amount in a WEEK. If they, or pretty much any other star, tried this, they would get EATEN ALIVE and at this point in time, I feel Michael would fit in that category. Yes, Michael Jackson is an incredibly successful artist, but his ability to shift albums at the moment is not as powerful as Beyonce's atm and honestly, I don't see the MJ album being that successful if it comes out suddenly unannounced. Success aside, he will also be branded a copycat. I can't really explain my reasons for doing so, I just have a strong feeling that this Beyonce album no-hype sudden release was pretty much a one-time only thing and it's pretty much unprecedented, especially to this scale, that every single album after it that attempts the same thing will be compared to it. Honestly, I would so love to be proven wrong and I would LOVE to see MJ pull that off too, but I'm just being honest. Posthumous releases don't tend to have the same force as releases by current artists,

And it's because of that I agree with you on the last point: the upcoming Michael Jackson album needs A LOT of promotion. We're already at a disadvantage because Michael isn't here! It would be very beneficial for The Estate to do a deal with iTunes and prominently feature the new Michael Jackson in the weeks leading UP to the release and AFTER the release with a video montage and snippets on the Store homepage to help promote it. The second you announce the album, give us a song! When they announced the 20/20 Experience (the most successful album this year with a prior-to-release marketing campaign), they immediately gave us a song from JT that helped build up a hype! You got the hype of a new album PLUS a new song! I remember seeing banners for Bad 25 BEFORE the release, but none after. Like come on, really? That's ****ing STUPID! The iTunes Store is a forefront for music advertising these days and it gets MILLIONS of unique hits every day. If you advertise prominently, and offer new material right away, PEOPLE WILL NOTICE - especially with the name of MICHAEL JACKSON! Sure, these days he might not be able to push a new unannounced album like Beyonce has, but his name still means something and commands respect! He still has an AMAZING chance to be successful in the first week if the Estate play their cards right!

If they can take advertising serious for once and advertise it with a STRONG and POWERFUL marketing campaign, then I have a good feeling this upcoming album has the potential to do well. If they can come up with a unique way to advertise this album too (that will actually turn people's heads, like what Beyonce did), that would be very beneficial too.

The impact of Beyoncé's move has been so big because it was something no one pulled before. I think this hype and buzz also helped to carry the album, but for the second time someone doing this would not be this successful. Simply because it would not be anything new any more. Secondly, let's wait and see the final sales before we declare this strategy a success. Because of the surprise effect it sold well in its first days, and also because there were no leaks and they also could avoid negative previews this ways. It will go Nr 1, but the downside is that once the hype is over then everything about this album is all over at once, because everything is already out - all songs, all videos.

And the sales dynamics for a dead artist are completely different to someone who's alive. To be honest, I think fans should not obsess about being Nr 1. The days when it was natural for a MJ record to go Nr 1 are over. He's not alive any more, he's not here to create new stuff, he's not here to promote. If there will be songs/mixes on it which appeal to the general public it could go to Nr 1. but let's not be surprised if it doesn't.
