Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

1. My opinion. I'm 100% sure that is the case here.

2. Vocals. Not the song. Demo vocals.

1) I know it's your opinion, and I'm offering my view of it.
2) The vocals on Best of Joy are less complete than on Love Never Felt So Good. On the latter, Michael is giving his all and does well enough to make the lyrics sound partially complete. On the former, he is giving about 70%.

1. Timbaland is the main producer just on the paper. John McClain is the one in charge.
2. Best Of Joy wasn't the first single from the album.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Heard LNFSG for the first time in years today. How can anyone hate that!?! I've been singing it all day! Hopefully the whole world will be soon too! MJ will be on top once more - Xscape is the album that should've been 4 years ago! :)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Majority of hardcore fanbase heard the leaked versions. Not even the whole fanbase! And that is like 5% of the people that will buy the album. The rest of the world deserves to hear those songs.

Also I don't know why you are disappointed. Those songs are not officially released, they were stolen from Sony servers and other places and illegally posted on the internet. Also you didn't have to listen the leaks.

Another thing MJ is dead so he can not record new music or finish unfinished demos (mojority of unreleased songs are in that form). Other songs that are mostly finished are in the hands of greedy producers like will.i.am and RedOne who refuse to release them.. so that leaves the Estate with limited resources. They picked the best they had that is almost finished and releasable.

Also you heard 6/9 songs BUT 4/17 tracks!

1. Love Never Felt So Good - UNHEARD
2. Chicago - UNHEARD
3. Lovin' You - UNHEARD
4. A Place With No Name - UNHEARD
5. Do You Know Where Your Children Are - UNHEARD
6. Slave To The Rhythm - UNHEARD
7. Blue Gangsta - UNHEARD
8. Xscape - UNHEARD
9. Love Never Felt So Good (Original Demo) - HEARD
10. Chicago (Original Version) - UNHEARD
11. Lovin' You (Original Version) - UNHEARD
12. A Place With No Name (Original Version) - HEARD
13. Do You Know Where Your Children Are (Original Version) - UNHEARD (2010 Work In Progress Version leaked)
14. Slave To The Rhythm (Original Version) - UNHEARD (2010 Album Candidate leaked)
15. Blue Gangsta (Original Version) - HEARD
16. Xscape (Original Version) - HEARD
17. Hot Fun In The Summertime - UNHEARD

All in all that is pretty amazing compared to MICHAEL album where you had 7 songs:

1. Hold My Hand (Original Version leaked in 2008)
2. Hollywood Tonight - UNLEAKED
3. The Way You Love Me (Original Version released in 2004)
4. Best Of Joy - UNLEAKED
5. Another Day (Original Version partially leaked in 2010)
6. Behind The Mask - UNLEAKED
7. Much Too Soon (2010 Work In Progress Version leaked before the album was released)

Ah yes that is true, i forgot about the originals. But they are only on the deluxe edition, right? So the normal edition just has 8 songs? And what is Hot fun in the summertime? Only on the deluxe?

1) John McClain is a coexecutor of the estate. Obviously he's in charge.
2) Neither was Behind the Mask, another McClain reproduction.

Do any pictures exist of this 'John Mcclain'? I can't find any.

Yeah, only on Deluxe Edition. Standard Edition has only 8 tracks.

Hot Fun In The Summertime is Sly And The Family Stone cover:

They had incomplete MJ vocals so they finished the song with vocals from D'Angelo & Mary J Blige. D'Angelo is the producer. We don't know when MJ recorded his vocals but he did work on the song in 2008 with Michael Durham Prince & Neff-U.

Exactly! Why wasn't he on making of MICHAEL album video? I'm sure he won't be on this new one either.

1. That's what I'm saying. He decided that his song will be the first single and it is.
2. Maybe because of that. Branca was in charge of MICHAEL - inclusion of C. tracks, Breaking News stream. Now it's McClain's turn.

Ok, one question for you. If Thriller is unreleased. And you are releasing it now in 2014. Would you pick The Girl Is Mine (let's say it's not a duet with Paul McCartney) as a lead single?

You have a point that first single shouldn't always be the best song on the album (even though Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough was a smash hit and is the best song from that album). But it definitely shouldn't be the worst! That happened with Thriller and the worst song from the album became #2 hit. That won't happen again. I guarantee it. And again I'm not saying it is a bad song (neither is The Girl Is Mine) but it is the worst song from the album (vocally - and that is the most important part, at least it should be for Michael Jackson's fans). Not because it is bad, but because all other songs are much better and more complete.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

My friend asked me today about the album. She loves Michael and her kids are fans too. She said her son heard the new song and I am assuming it was the Xscape leaked version from a long time ago that was going around. I told her that isn't new it was leaked version from years ago. I told her to tell them to wait to hear the actual album and hopefully something will come on the radio too. I said no one has heard the songs that are new the final versions. Did I say it right to her? I am just wondering. That's what I am doing waiting to hear the album and hopefully on the radio we get a single too.

Just love reading the fan club reviews

This is John McClain
You can also find him in a video which shows Michael toured Marvel with Stan Lee.

He is very low-key and doesn't like to show up anywhere, reportedly.

No. Why? Because on the album, that song is heavily considered the weakest of the bunch by almost all critics and fans. Conversely, Love Never Felt So Good is considered one of the best by a number of fans and critics. Slave to the Rhythm saw a number of negative reviews, as did Loving You and Blue Gangsta. I haven't read a single comment on Love that was lot overwhelmingly positive.

This is all subjective, but I personally don't find Don't Stop to be the best song on Off the Wall. For me, it's either I Can't Help It or Burn This Disco Out.

I'll say it again and again if I need to: Love Never Felt So Good is being picked as the lead single because musically, it fits the trend of disco becoming a relevant musical genre, and is majorly radio friendly. Maybe it's not the best song on the album vocally or lyrically, but it's the song that best fits what the charts are showing currently (Happy by Pharrell Williams still sits at number one, and let's not forget how huge Get Lucky, Blurred Lines and Suit & Tie were). Why, then, would they release a rock song like Chicago first? It wouldn't make sense.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I don't understand what's so suspicious about LNFSG being the first single (if it really is). I mean John McClain could have done so many things if he wanted to show off his power and I can't see how picking his song as the first single is one of them. It doesn't make anyone but the fans suspicious. Nobody's gonna be like "John McClain is such a boss". Who is he trying to impress anyway? The producers that were hired by the company he decided to cooperate with? If we don't like it as much as the people in charge do that's fine but it doesn't make it a conspiracy. And if they eventually go with Chicago, does it make Timbaland the all mighty and powerful man behind this project?

Re "people are probably just being nostalgic", "those people must be Off The Wall fans" - this argument is so unfair for many reasons. I like Michael's work in the 90's-00's better than his late 70's-early 80's work, it doesn't mean I can't enjoy Billie Jean - does it? When I play "I Can't Help It" I'm not being nostalgic. I don't even think about the era this song belongs to. I just enjoy the music. Not everything comes with hidden agendas. I think these people gave us honest reviews that you might not agree with but it's unfair to dismiss those reviews by saying "they're 70's fans. that's why they like it." - How annoying it's gonna be if people would be like "those positive reviews are from MJ fans, sure they think it's great. I bet it sucks."

You keep saying his vocals are terrible, when in all the reviews they just loved hearing his voice and it gave them chills. NOBODY has complained about his vocals BUT YOU. Geez:beee:

We have a thread about Mcclain here : http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/threads/117948-Informational-John-McClain

As far as we know he had a stroke some years back (before Michael died) and he has a small physical disability but otherwise in good health. He never liked the spotlight and he's known to not attend any event - even more so after his stroke.

and here's a bonus picture of him

I've never said they are terrible. I've said that they are the worst of all 8 tracks (at least 7). Partially incomplete, demo vocals. He would never use that vocals on the studio album.

Partially incomplete, demo vocals. He would never use that vocals on the studio album.

He did. Come Together on HIStory album. CT was also a demo.

I don't see what complaining about it is going to do. It's going to be the lead single.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Compare the vocals, please.

You have no idea what you're talking about. I don't know why you keep saying "demo" vocals. There is nothing wrong with his vocals on this song, they are great. It's silly to even compare this track to a track like Come together, this is not a song where Michael screams and shouts at the top of his lungs. Just because Michaels approach to this song is mellow doesn't make his vocals weak.

Onir, just let it go man. It's not the end of the world. You can complain all you want but you're beating a dead horse, in the end they will proceed with their single choice and there ain't nothing none of us can do about it.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I dont see why they dont just release the tracklist? Most no what it is anyway..

I don't see what complaining about it is going to do. It's going to be the lead single.

And it's not going to enter the top 40. Timbaland song could have been #1.

Can't we all just hug each other and get along? :huggy:

Of course. I'll get over it.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Good- now let's all hold hands and sing Kumbayah... :giggle:

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

23 days to go until the first release..

I imagine tracks will start leaking a few days before this so probably 2-3 weeks until we begin hearing songs from the album, not including the first single..

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

We have little bases to complain until the album is out... even in lnfsg - the words that sound mumbled in the demo cud sound crisper in the new mix. That's part of tge magic if production.. we dont know what it sounds like and it seems those who have heard it. Love it!
