Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Remember, not everyone heard the leak that is why the standard is being released. Estate/Sony did not change it back to original title. Let us see what the demo is titled when the track list is published.

This is true, but as far as the intent fan community is concerned, that's how we were introduced to the song. In any case, I don't think it necessarily matters. Michael has numerous songs in his catalog that were purposely misspelled or replaced letters with numbers.

Rodney Jerkins said it has always been Xscape. That was the original title.

Source, if you will?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

A friend sent me a picture of a tweet he sent out on March 31st, confirming the title had always been Xscape. And not Escape.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Just checked his Twitter. If he did indeed send that tweet out, he took it down.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Why then everywhere in every book and source including Joe Vogel's book it is named as "Escape" and mentioned that it was only leaked like "Xscape", but it's real original title IS "Escape"?

????

I agree with you. I am interested in seeing if Estate/Sony will list the demo as Xscape and not the rightful title of Escape. I believe the title is continuing as Xscape because of the phone and that was not Michael's intent.

For me it matters because I do not appreciate Michael's concepts being changed for unimportant reasons like advertising a phone.

It was not changed to advertise a phone. Check the above post by memefan for proof (thanks for finding this one for us!)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

NEWS (mainly just confirmation of old information)

Listening to Journalists in Germany (
translated from: https://twitter.com/das_Janchen)

- 8 Tracks, first 3 songs are not that great as the next 4 tracks are (They are TOP)!
- Slightly overproduced
- Song "Xscape" is one of weaker tracks on the Album

- Sony doesn't give any title-list to the journalists
- Journalists are not allowed to write about the album until few days before release-date
- Radio-Journalists are not allowed to say anything about how the new Tracks sound
- The total duration of the Tracks is about half an hour (8 Tracks)
- There are NO Featurings within this 8 newly produced Tracks! All SOLO MJ!

The bombs are in the middle of the Disc:
- Slave to the Rhythm is #5
- Blue Gangster #6

- XScape is the last Track #8

EDIT: I see its just a double-post

It seems that the first three tracks (included LNFSG) are not AS great as the next four, and maybe Xscape is the weaker out of the TOP ones?

Anyway, to me it is a pretty good review, imo.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Thanks for the confirmation from Rodney that the original title was indeed Xscape and has not been changed. It's always been known as Xscape.

I'm glad it's Xscape, because I'm so used to it. I think it gives it an edge and it kinda fits with the futuristic cover art. ?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Don't believe something just because Vogel says it, he's been wrong about many things.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

But he's been right about many more. He isn't 100% reliable but he's pretty damn good.

I am confused.

Madmijack said the original title was Escape and a fan who illegally leaked it named it Xscape. Now, it is believed the title was originally Xscape because Jerkins tweeted it?

If the title was originally Escape, the erroneous title Xscape was serendipity for Sony’s phone. It is similar to “I Never Heard” being changed to “This Is It” for obvious reasons. When the cd is released the demo version will be titled Xscape to match the contemporized version and cd title. If the title was truly Escape, it is not going to be corrected.

Xscape means Escape just like 2 Bad means Too Bad.

On the other hand Chicago does not mean She Was Loving Me.

Michael always called This Is It This Is It (there was even copyright registration made by Michael in 1984). It was Anka who called the song I Never Heard.

Also Rodney Jerkins co-wrote the song with MJ so I think he is more trustworthy than some fan who leaked it.

I don't see why you're still confused about this. Rodney Jerkins, the man who cowrote and coproduced the song with Michael Jackson, confirmed that the song was recorded under the title Xscape and was always considered as such. Whatever fan told Madmijack otherwise misled him/her. I personally wouldn't take the word of an unknown fan over the word of the producer himself.

Also, This Is It was chosen because that was the title on the cassette tape John McClain found. They didn't rename it from I Never Heard; Michael did.

OnirMJ, AlwaysThere: Thank you both for your responses.

AlwaysThere, I said before I was learning alot from this discussion. This is the first time I am hearing about the true titles of those songs.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Oh no, it's totally fine! Additionally, I apologize if any of my responses may seem cross or rude; it is wholly not my intention. I know what it's like to learn things and to have people like me get impatient and write things that may seem a bit off colored :p

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

well glad thats settled. the song has always been known as Xscape to me and glad that it always will be. i just hope now that i like the new direction of the updated version, but at least i always have the original leak. maybe the untouched version on the disc will differ from the version we all have.

i remember a story from 2003 ish that he was still working on xscape
