Last time I checked, Michael Jackson is the single greatest artist to have contributed to charity and humanitarian causes. It's even listed in the Guinness book of records. And "He makes it a point to visit hospitals on his tour for every country he's performing " says Tom Mesereau.

Music wise, Bono's only so so.

Justin Timberlake: i don't mind some songs, but a majority of them are annoying.
T-Pain: a 5 year old can write better lyrics than him. no creativity there.
Britney: i like her performances, but her music is laughable.
50 Cent: liked his first album, but his last 2 are garbage and unoriginal.
Soulja Boy: another one hit wonder on the scene.

Oh and while this thread has been bumped up, lol there is one artist in particular who I'm finding really irritating and corny: Enrique Igelaiease (sp?) He's so fricking boring; his songs and music videos all have the same theme: being in love or lusting after a girl and he has no personality what so ever! Just a pretty boy with little to no substance in his artistic talents!

I think Amy Whinehouse is vastly overrated. Many would disagree with me, because I hear about her massive talent constantly, but I simply don't see or hear it. At least, not to the same extent.

I am not a fan but I can't deny her talent. And I like her songs more than 80% of the mainstream music.

I don't understand what all the hype is about Beyonce. I never could. She can't sing to save her life, she can't dance/she looks awkward when she dances, her songs are crap, and truth be told, other than having killer legs and hips, she's okay/average looking, not drop dead gorgeous like the media claim she is. IMO

T-Pain is a great producer, plain and simple. He may even be overrated, but he's not just some "singer" or "rapper". He's a producer, and his songs are kick a**, for the most part. The beats and the melodies, at least. Some of the content is just freaking retarded, but he knows how to make music that people want to hear. All of his songs have basically been hits.

But yeah, anyway, my two cents....

Corny/Overrated:

I'd have to say the Beatles, Elvis, Prince (he's a fantastic technical musician at piano and guitar, and has great energy on stage, but his songs suck for the most part), Madonna (eeeew), Britney Spears (corny, but not overrated--no one takes her seriously), Mariah Carey (nowadays she's really cheesy and played out), Chris Brown (joke), Rihanna (joke), Timbaland (it's getting old--his sh*** all sounds the same and he needs to stop stealing obscure classical arabic songs and turning them into hip-hop beats), Alicia Keys (she bores me now, her songs are cliche and uncreative), Justin TimberFake, 50 Cent, Eminem, .

Man I could go on all day so I'd better stop here lol. I've probably pissed some people off too lol.

Kanye West - If he's the best rapper ever then Hip Hop is dead. If Kanye was around during the golden age of Hip Hop he would have been laughed off stage

Timberland - I know that alot of people love him but his music really bores me. That apologise song makes me wanna go to sleep

Uggh, I HATE that song, "Apologise".

But yeah, Kanye sucks. The fact that he's so arrogant is actually a part of why he gets on my nerves. He's trying to brainwash everyone (including himself) into believing that he's "the best", when no, he isn't. And never will be.
 
I don't agree that Mariah is overrated. Her music lately sucks, that's just being honest, because I'm a fan. But her voice really is as good as it's made out to be. The music she's been doing lately just doesn't allow her to showcase it, at all. But if you wanna see how good she really is, check out Mariah Carey on the Fantasy tour and Mariah Carey Live from 1993. Whitney Housten is overrated, imo. Now I'm gonna go run and hide while I get pelted with rocks from the surley crowd.

The rest of your guys' answers I agree with though, lol. And the way you're describing some of these "artists" is hilarious, lol.

You're right, Mariah was great.... I've seen recent publicity performances she's done for the new album [GMA, etc] and she struggles with every note. That's not to take away from her former greatness, but the voice isn't there anymore. It's nearly as raspy as her speaking voice.

IMHO Mariah, even at her peak, couldn't touch Whitney at hers. The power, the technique, Whitney Houston is truly one of, if not the greatest vocalist of all time.

The only artist today that truly annoys me and lord knows i wish Madge had not worked with that ass is Justin. I couldn't care less about him not acknowledging Michael I have never dranked the Justin juice period. I'd take Brian of the BackstreetBoys and JC of N'synce over that dorky looking MF!
 
Whitney is far from the greatest vocalist of all time. She makes the top 20 of the last 20 years. Her technique isn't as good as Mariah's, and her voice isn't as technically good, and in my opinion, she has less soul.
