For someone who wasn't alive then, you put together a really good list. I agree with all of your choices. My very first concert was Aerosmith.

I totally agree with you. Especially since I am a child of the 80s. Michael and Madonna was definitely 2 of the most biggest stars of the 80s. Especially Michael during that whole Michael Jackson mania thing. I only remember very little of it. Since I was born in 1980. But from what I do remember it really was the most greatest time to be a Michael Jackson fan. Michael and Madonna was definitely my 2 number one singers back then. And I do agree about those other singers that were mention. But I also think these singers were just as big:

Bon Jovi
John Mellencamp
Phil Collins/Genesis
Journey
Bananarama
The Bangles
Twisted Sister
Sting/The Police
Donna Summer
The Pointer Sisters
Blondie
Annie Lennox/The Eurythmics
Tears for Fears
R.E.M.
The Thompson Twins
Pet Shop Boys (I just totally love their West End Girls song)

I can probably just go on forever. I really do have such a huge L.O.V.E. for the 80s. It really is the best decade ever. Especially when it came to the music. Its a shame that the music of today isn't anything like the music of the 80s.

what about paul mcartney? wasn't he a big 80's star?

Great lists. I miss the 80's..

Here is more: Boy George, Cyndi Lauper, Depeche Mode, Modern Talking, Alphaville, Roxette, Prince, Lionel Richie..

Maybe the very early 80s, but his popularity as far as records are concerned started to die off around 1985. But he remained successful in touring. Interestingly, George Harrison, who wasn't that successful as a solo act after the early 70s and was reclusive, became more popular than Paul with his Cloud Nine album and with the Traveling Wilburys.

GOD I wish I was born in the 80's, I missed out on the best decade of music, EVER :(
My Favourite 80's:
**Michael (obviously)
**Stevie Wonder
**Lionel Richie
**Janet
**Luther Vandross
**Queen
**Whitney Houston
**Wham/George Michael
**Madonna

don't forget New Kids on the Block
The odd thing about them is that the only reason they existed is because New Edition fired Maurice Starr. NE sued Maurice because they weren't getting paid. So Maurice decided to create another group. The New Kids were from Boston like NE was, and that is why they were called New Kids On The Block. But they caught on in a way that New Edition couldn't and way surpassed NE in popularity and exposure.

I love the 80s I wish I had gotten a chance to experience this decade, unfortunately I didn't exist then.

LOVE r.e.m. :D good choice :) although i didn't really think they had that much of a following in the 80s, it was the 90s when they shot to stardom with there "Out Of Time" album which i really recommend people listen to.

Michael Jackson was the biggest male, - Madonna the biggest female artist in the 80s. Apart of those two, Boy George /Culture Club, Duran Duran, Wham!, Bananarama, Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, Bronski Beat, Whitney Houston and Kim Wilde were very trendy!
