Who Has The Bigger Impact Overall The Jackson 5/Jacksons or Janet?

To be honest, as a Madonna and Janet fan anyone who says Janet is more successful is delusional, but Madonna isn't as imitated in today's chart music as much as Janet is. Madonna has Gaga copying everything she has already done, but Janet has Bey, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Gaga, Britney and so many more copying what she has already done, Madonna is without a doubt the most successful female artist and while being a fan, that doesn't make her the most imitated, I think a few are more imitated than her.

Janet the most imitated? I am not even a fan of either of them but i disagree. I am talking about the most influential. Madonna has her foot print on virtually all female artists today. she continues to inspire generations of female artists in a way that no other female artist has ever done before. be it fashion, business acumen, and music. Yes, Janet has had some influence on a few thanks to her rhythm of nation dancing. but that was in the late 80s and people have moved on. Madonna on the other hand continues to be hip and there lies her enduring influence to this day.

I think a lot of people dismiss heavily Janet's influence because she is no longer as popular as she once was, popularity doesn't equate influence. Most if not all female artists today are doing Janet-esque moves, are striding for that singer/dancer trait that Janet brought to the table, her career in the 80's and 90's was astonishing, all you have to do is watch Janet's ICON award show, which she was the first to win, to see how much she has had an impact on music:

This is HIGHLY debatable. Madonna is by far (as in light years) the most influential and successful female artist in history. Janet does NOT even come close.

Madonna is more successful ? NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT .... Most influential ? CHILD PLEASE .... Janet influence is greater than madonna .....Just look no further than today's landscape ..Janet like michael was the first woman who really brought dance /choreography and video drivent era to the front of pop mainstream ..and nobody can dispute that

REALly HOW IS MADONNA more influential ??? yes madonna is the smartest business woman in the biz no doubt about that ...but really artisitcally /musically ///image wise ..Janet is miles ahead ..chill ...Popularity doesnt equate to INFLUENCE MY FRIEND

Both Madonna and Janet have been influential, in their own way. Madonna started first, in terms of popularity, and talked about a lot of delicate issues no one wanted to hear about in the early 80's. She changed a lot of things, socially. Janet added others things, maybe more artistically, in the dancing parts.

IMHO, and without being a prude, they both turned to exaggerated eroticism to the great expense of the artistic side of their careers. It was the easy way, but not the brightest idea. On this too, they had an influence on the world of music.

I agree that the J5 has had the bigger impact, for all the reasons stated already. Janet is probably inspirational to girls today because of her musical, dancing and acting talent. Especially acting.

It's obvious by your post that you know very little about Madonna artistry and chef-oeuvre. Madonna's music videos have been consistently rated higher than Janet even by critics alike. That's a fact. Of the two, Madonna is by lights years the most decorated female artist, having won more awards in practically any given category than Janet. That's a fact. While artistically, she pales in comparison to the likes of Withney Houston, Aretha Franklyn, Diana Ross and so on, she's far better than Janet. That is a fact.
Madonna's contribution to pop culture and music by far outweighs Janet. That's a fact. and this is evident by her influence which too outweights Janet. it's very rare these days to see a female artist regardless of the music genre not having been inspired/influenced by Madonna in any form. I can't say the same thing about Janet. her influence in comparison is rather scant.
