What is the story behind Michael's driving?

Hearing these stories makes me not want to get into a car with Mike. LOL! The second I saw the ticket on EBay, my mind went straight to Moonwalker. "Mike, Mike, Michael Jackson!" I'm 22 and I still don't have my license. Driving scares the heck outta me :)

"Black, 1976 Rolls Royce, which didn't have a current registration tag, it showed expired in Jan 1983. I also noticed that the right rear tail light was inoperative. I pulled the car over to issue the driver a citation for the violations. While I was writing him the ticket I checked his drivers license status and was informed that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, which was for a previous ticket that he had received and failed to take care of. I arrested him for the outstanding warrant and transported him to the police station. While he was at the police station he posted bail and was processed and released."

*shakes head at Michael* :) :) :)

Is that serious - Michael was actually arrested for it and had a criminal record?
lol I don't understand your system in the US so forgive me :)

It's okay, I don't live in the US either.
That photo is rad! I can picture Applehead on a bike riding around. Ha-ha. My friend and I want to get mountain bikes and race down the mountains in Neverland ET style. Neverland is perfect for mountain biking.

Pam Grier like from The L Word Pam Grier? Was in the Mod Squad I think? Or Shaft? Lol. I only know her from The L Word. Oh man, mental picture of Applehead sitting down watching that show. Ha-ha!
Forget MJ watching the L-word, imagine MJ watching Foxy Brown or Coffy...lol:hysterical:. Does anyone know more about the book with MJ blushing over Pam Grier?

I saw this ticket for sale on eBay and then I remember Speed Demon was about his driving skills? or not. Did Michael drive around on his own or ?

I know he said he used to drive around at night looking for someone to talk to. I would love to hear your stories...

Actually Speed Demon wasn't about him. It was about Bruce Swdien. He(Bruce) said that he was running late early in the morning to go work on the BAD album with Michael and Quincy. Then he was speeding and got a ticket. When he told Michael and Quincy what had happened,Michael came up with an idea, with the song "Speed Demon". Even Bruce says, "Only Michael can do that":D meaning bring fantasy to what happened in reality.

YEPP...Thats our Michael alright...:D

OMG...mee too...(I mean the driving part) i'm 21 lolz... but age doesnt matter. but driving scares the hell outta me!:cheeky:

Here is the Pam Grier story.

It comes from from Bobby Colomby who was then (in 1977) Epic's head of West Coast artist relations and ex drummer for Blood Sweat and Tears. The backgournd is that the Jacksons at the time were slated to be dumped from Epic after a less than successful start at the label. Here is the story:

Michael was utterly infatuated with the woman whom Colomby was then living with, actress Pam Grier. “When he found out I was living with her, he just flipped out, Bobby said. “She’d walk into the studio and he’d squeal and run out and hide. When Grier called, Michael felt tongue tied. I’d say ‘Hey Michael. It’s Pam’ and I’d hand him the phone. He couldn’t handle it. It’d just drop in his lap and he’d stare at it. He wouldn’t even talk”.

I don't think cars liked him either. Didn't he break down in the middle of Sunset (or somewhere) Blvd. and that's how he met the Chandlers?

Bit like the time he expected Eddie Murphy to change the microphone hight for him while presenting at an awards ceremony. So funny.

that was sooo funny.. but eddie didn't have to play him like that. he had the award in one hand and couldn't change the stand.... but it was hilarious. i watch it all the time.

That was funny, the look on Michael's face was priceless.

Here is a story that LaToya tells about Michael’s driving. The background is that Michael was feeling very stifled on the Victory tour, he couldn't go anywhere. On a brief trip home this is what happened:

"Michael ran out of the house shouting 'That's it! I don't want any security. I'm going for a ride.' Then he jumped into my black Mercedes 450 SL and speed out the driveway.

"Girls" giggles LaToya, "Michael was followed by two cars of girls. Then the car ran out of gas and they blocked him in the middle of the street. He didn't know what to do. Since he was out of gas he left the car right there and ran to Quincy's house".

Here is just a part:

I guess I should mention at this point that Michael is an awful driver. He hit everyone's car in the studio lot at least once, including mine. One time, he rear-ended a guy on the 101 freeway, and just left the scene because the guy got out of his car and started screaming at him. Eventually, he gave up and got someone to drive him in to work every day.

Other memorable experiences include calling Tower Records (RIP) an hour before they closed, and having them shut down early so that Michael and I could go shopping. Even thought it was just up the road, I was glad to get out of MJ's car and into the safety of the store! I think he dropped about $1500 on CDs that night.

Anyway, one day Michael shyly asked me if I could do him a special favor. I'm pretty sure this was after he stopped driving, so I guess he really didn't have any other way to get stuff during the day. Of course I agreed, which was when he told me flat-out that he had just run out of underwear.

The book I got the quote from?

rr poor Michael, even with his poor driving skills he still manges to be funny. And i personally think its rather cute.

am a poor driver i was having a lesson few weeks ago and some how managed to burst the front tyre , how i duno but i had to drive back to mine, with flat tyre and my instructor had to change it outside my house, shameful.

These days, if he did have a car and was driving, fans would track him down in a minute.

I think Michael liked driving:

But I don't think he was a good driver LOL

In this interview of the J5 days, at 1:36 Tito says to Michael:
"Well, man, the way you ride your minibike, I don't think you're going to live too long to record another record"

I love these stories!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is afraid of driving! I'll be 21 in October and I still don't have my license either!

I saw this blogpost on another thread here on MJJC.

http://williambranca.blogspot.com/2009/06/cirque-du-soleil-with-michael-jackson.html

Mid-1990's: Michael ... called my brother (John Branca) a few weeks later, invited him to Cirque du Soleil, and asked my brother to invite me to join them. I could invite a friend to come along, so I really did not have a girl in my life to take worthy enough to take, so I invited my best friend and business partner, Worthy Patterson. It was quite a trip! We met Michael in his condominium in West wood. My brother went inside to get Michael and Worthy and I waited in the car, I was thinking that Michael would ride with us to Santa Monica. My brother came outside alone and told me that Michael was getting his car, and that my brother was going to drive with Michael, and we would follow. My brother then gave me the keys to this Cornice Rolls Royce and I followed Michael Jackson, who by the way was driving a tricked out customized Van. I remember following Michael down Wilshire Blvd to Santa Monica, Ca. Let me say this, it was a hell of a ride keeping up with Michael, That boy can drive, unfortunately not very well. However, I was very impressed; it was just Michael Jackson and my brother in the Van, no security detail , with me and worthy “trying” to follow them. And keep up…I distinctly, remember pulling up back stage at Cirque du Soleil, and there was security detail waiting for Michael, they waved him through and stopped me in the Cornice Rolls Royce. Michael stopped the van and very quickly told the security “they are with me let them in” and to let us through. We parked next to Michael, an army of security escorted us into the show

Wow - Michael and I have something in common! I'm a bad driver too - I get tickets drive down roads I shouldn't, always drive far away from my destination in order to find an easy space to park in! Can't wait to tell my friends about this, they know my driving only too well - lol!

Haha, bless Michael! I love these stories. I'm 22 and still don't have my license!

so its universal. MJ couldn't drive.... AND??? For the luv of goodness......

he is MICHAEL JOSEPH JACKSON.... he can't be perfect....

i mean so we found 1 POSSIBLE FLAW.... LOL.....HAHAHAHHA....

By the way.... how can all these people say that MJ was a horrible driver.... HOW'S THEIR DRIVING???

lol.....lol..... this thread is funny.

I find it funny as Michael could turn his hand to most things ...... but apparently could not turn the wheel of a car

I watched a video last week and I heard the song was about a traffic jam Michael got stuck in. You know, Michael Jackson stories, always too many ways to be told...

But I think everyone agreed that Michael was not a good driver. There's nothing artistic or magical about driving imo. If there were such thing as Tinkerbell's magic powder, I bet Michael would learn to fly in a heartbeat! LOL

Really? Hm...I always remember hearing the story that Michael was driving to the studio when he got pulled over and received a ticket, and he was bummed over it, so Quincy Jones said "why don't you write about how it makes you feel"?, and so he wrote Speed Demon.

I'm pretty sure Quincy told this story in an interview I read recently too, I'll see if I can find it. :)

I wonder if this is the same incident that Taraborelli spoke about in Magic and the Madness. He wrote that it was an incident in the early '80s and noted the fact that the incident was racially motivated (black guy in a Rolls). He said Mike got a kick outta being in a cell.
