Manu Dibango, an african singer, named his song after Makossa and altered the word into "Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Ma Coo Sa". Michael sampled the chant from Dibango's song, it has alot more meaning than just being gibberish.

Also if you put the ma, and se together, sema means something similar to "she said" in Swahili. Although that could just be coincidence.
