I think Madonna is for the moment, but think Beyonce will take over eventually. Beyonce is pretty damned huge and has been performing since she was a child, spent years in a band with destiny's child, and is now doing her own thing and doing it damned well! Hmmm...remind you of anyone? ;)

Those usually credited for songwriting usually come up with the melody or write the lyrics. In Janet's case Janet comes up with the lyrics and J&L comes up with the melody. And I disagree. Janet is MJ's female counterpart as far as talent goes. Which Madonna lacks. Yes, Madonna is far more popular but musically I would hand it to Janet. She's far more versatile and talented. Also how do you know if fans are just voting for Janet to support anything MJ related :huh: Maybe they're more of a fan of Janet's than MJ such as myself.

I'm pretty sure he is as serious as I am. We all have our own minds and ears. No, she's not Whitney Houston but that doesn't mean she can't sing. To each their own. :smilerolleyes:

And as much as I adore Janet I don't think she is as versatile as Madonna. Talented, yes, but she's been stuck in the same musical rut for over a decade now. She's done the same thing over and over and as much as fans like to blame her downfall on nipplegate, I think the fact that she's been releasing the same album again and again plays a bigger part.

It seems most here base it on whether you can belt it like Whitney or Mariah and if not then you "can't sing".

A great singer is:

1) Someone with a sound of his or her own.
2) Someone who is able to communicate the lyrical and emotional content of a song to the listener.
3) Someone who puts his or her voice at the service of the song and not vice versa.

Whether the singer in question has a huge or small voice is relatively unimportant. There are singers with small voices such as Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee who are great singers in the opinion of most sane people and on the other hand singers with huge voices who are in poor taste because they get themselves involved in vocal acrobatics just to show that they can.

Christina Aguilera comes to mind. The girl can sang but she goes so overboard. There's a time and place for everything. It feels like she is trying to prove she can sing with every single performance.

Also, for those who often say Madonna can't sing........

Um... Yes. I am. Obviously, you didn't understand the post. EVERYBODY has their own personal tastes and preferences on what voice reflections/types are appealing to their ear. So :lol: all you want... it's the truth. :smilerolleyes: I don't see what's so funny about a fact. My statement you quoted was pretty clear and neutral (besides me saying Madonna's voice is appealing to my ear). :unsure:

Her last two albums are lackluster and that's about it but Madonna's Hard Candy was nothing stellar either :lol: I think Madonna is more versatile by changing her style and hair color but musically she has been doing Electronica for years now. And Janet has covered just about every genre in music ;)

I've read some of Madonna's autobiographies. She's definitely a mezzo-soprano... and can go down to alto notes. The little box underneath her photo on wiki -- "Mezzo-soprano." So do some better research before you post next time. :smilerolleyes: Also, like I said, I was a Choir Geek and spent my last 2 years as a mezzo-soprano myself. I have no interest in debating with you anymore. So just "Beat It." :rofl:

Oh please. To claim Janet is musically more versatile in her albums than Madonna is leaning towards lunacy. Madonna hasn't been doing electronica for years. Music, American Life, Confessions on a Dance Floor and Hard Candy are all very different from one another and also even harder to classify as to what type of albums they are. Someone who has heard these albums from beginning to end would know that. Most likely, you haven't actually listened to Madonna's albums while I own them all as well as Janets and therefore actually know what I'm talking about. Madonna has been doing the same thing since "All For You". I still enjoy her albums but I can't deny they aren't versatile. Only Discipline is a slight departure from the Janet formula that stopped working years ago.

And if you think Madonna's performance of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" sounds like squealing, you really need to get your ears checked. Having an opinion is one thing but trying to irritate and disrespect is a whole other story. You clearly DID NOT listen to that clip. It's so often the case that people go around speaking on things which they really don't have any knowledge of. Many of the people who bash Madonna haven't even heard her albums and know nothing of her outside of her singles (if even that) and what they hear others say in the media.

Madonna is The Queen - period. Anyone who feels differently, feel free to do so. I'm not trying to change anyone's opinions in here. I have mine and you have yours. At the end of the day it is to each their own.

Okay, so here's my all-time favorite song from my Madonna. I have been singing this song karaoke-style for years and years... and it has helped me SO much SO many times with whatever hardships, heartaches, or pain I am going through in my life at the time. :pray: I truly love her for this beautiful and meaningful song, and she sounds just perfect. :cry:

She worked hard and improved quite a bit as a singer over the years. You'll probably feel differently, but I disliked her singing on earlier records such as Holiday or Like a Virgin. The first Madonna vocal I liked was Papa Don't Preach. Her best albums for me are Like a Prayer and Ray of Light. Overall I like the mature Madonna more than the younger version.

I know what you are saying. I don't disagree with you at all. I can appreciate the raw vocals of yesteryear but I too prefer the mature Madonna of today.

My favorite Madonna album of all time is Like a Prayer but it's really hard to say what my favorite modern Madonna album is. It depends on the mood I'm in.

I'm not disrespecting her! I actually saw that clip and had to stop it midway because it was absolutely godawful!
 
If I felt my favorite artist was the Queen of Pop, I wouldn't waste my time creating threads about it just so others could validate my opinion.
 
People can be so childish and rude. No manners at all. I created the thread so OTHERS could voice their opinions in a mature and friendly manner. Just because it didn't go your way doesn't mean you have to lash out like a 5 year old. It wasn't about who agrees with me. I'm sorry if some missed the point but that's not my problem and shame on you for being so nasty about it.

P.S. Some should be banned from using :lol: and ;). It's not meant to antagonize, provoke, belittle, disrespect or demean. This seems more appropriate in the given situation -> :smilerolleyes:
