The Last Person to Post in This Thread Wins

I found the Celine Dion thread. Didn't know there was one. Anyway, I posted the clip over there as well. It's from the 1999 Oscars. Her outfit is horrible (the back of it), imo, but the hat is great and she wears it well.

Beautiful analysis! It echoes my thoughts quite accurately. And just like you, I found that major twist hard to digest. In fact, you put it perfectly: “unnecessary.”

It’s interesting that I, for some odd reason, show interest in—even actively seek out!—these kind of movies where dizzling heights is either the primary focal point or a major ingredient. I’ve mentioned that installment of Mission Impossible upthread; another is a documentary on Disney+ about an American rock climber. That one is painful to watch if you have even the slightest hint of acrophobia! Its title is Free Solo, and it’s presented by Disney like so:

😱

So why expose oneself to this? I’ve grown increasingly afraid of heights through adulthood, so cannot help but find it puzzling. Is it self-torture?
Well this paradox applies to anyone who likes scary movies.)))) If you keep doing it, then there must be some positive side to it. I mean, it's unrealistic torment, and such a "fear game". Maybe it's soothing in the long run.... 🤷‍♀️
I probably watch such an uncomfortable movie when I want strong emotions, but that's very rare. Today I did))))

The birds (vultures) were indeed great! A breath of fresh air, too, that they weren’t the usual awfully looking computer generated type, but actual creatures!
Oh, yeah! They were good. I know what you mean.
Also, I feel as though there’s some analogy to be had from that dead deer that they encountered prior to the climb, but I’m not sure what it is.
I'd say the girl who thought it was funny and filmed it on her phone then found herself in the deer's shoes....
The father’s role was small, but important.

Fritillary butterflies:

"One of our favorite butterfly families, the Fritillary offers much color and geographic distribution. Their name is derived from the Latin word, fritillus, meaning chessboard; it is also the name of a flower featuring a checkered pattern.

There are fourteen species of the greater fritillaries (genus Speyeria) and sixteen lesser fritillaries (genus Bolloria).

Most are orange and black with various checkered designs. Many are similar, and difficult to identify. Here are some common ones seen around the USA"

This isn’t in Bluemoon’s tongue!
I didn't say it was.

She's multilingual - unlike me, the monolingual heathen, lol. In any case, I was merely getting excited over the appearance on the page, so to speak, of the vocab. I did provide the translation. :)

Lovely words!

Rank languages!

Mine

1. Latin
2. Greek

Then it get very very hard!

3. German/Russian/English get to share this!

And then it gets somewhat easier.

4. French
5. Chinese
6. Icelandic
7. Finnish
8. Swedish

Not sure after that. But my least favourites is probably Italian followed by—dead last—Spanish.

(This is not a rascist post in any way, by the way.)

Das geht runter wie Öl 😄 (very flattering)

Tbh, I only started English when I was around 10 years old, and I am not really fluent in Plattdeutsch. I can speak some French , it used to be wayyyy better.

That sounds so much worse than it is (well, it isn´t a bad thing at all lol) :ROFLMAO:

It makes an awsome movie title, though:

Since I'm monolingual I can't do justice to this question. Although I did study Latin, French and Spanish at school. French for 10 years, ye gods!

Are we going by languages that we know / can speak? That's me disqualified, lol. Or are we going by how much we like the sound? In which case ...

German
Spanish
Scottish Gaelic
Russian
Swahili
Italian
French
