Oh no it's a ....Lord of the rings type bloke. feel my wrath, oh , do ! !
Exactly so.Well before my time but nonetheless a name that rings for eternity for any football fan around the world. Frequently listed in all time top 100 greatest football lists and with a world cup and ballon d’or to his name it is rightly deserved me thinks.
Is there lots of talk about Charlton in the UK? It passed by as a fait divers in Belgium which is understandable but I imagine this is huge news on the island. After all he won the world cup and was the best player in the process… Geoff Hurst is the only one of the squad still alive I heard.Exactly so.
From manutd.com:
"Nobody embodied the values of Manchester United better than Sir Bobby Charlton. Having survived the trauma of the Munich Air Disaster when aged just 20, he played as if every game was for his fallen colleagues, recovering from his injuries to reach the pinnacle for both club and country. In a 17-year playing career with the Reds, he played 758 games and scored 249 goals - both of which were longstanding records until, respectively, Ryan Giggs in 2008 and Wayne Rooney in 2017 surpassed his feats."
oh no not this
Seriously? Mate, the papers only just managed to refrain from putting a black border all around the front pages. Lots of talk? Man, this is going to run for days. And days. The man is a legend. Munich. 1966. His Man U record. Is there lots of talk about Charlton in the UK?
Yeah, Geoff is the last man standing. Must be weird for him. god, when he goes, god knows what it'll be like. Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton are more important but Geoff is the last one now so that means a lot.It passed by as a fait divers in Belgium which is understandable but I imagine this is huge news on the island. After all he won the world cup and was the best player in the process… Geoff Hurst is the only one of the squad still alive I heard.
I know what you mean. It's in my lifetime but it feels like a million years ago. I mean, I wasn't that bothered, tbh. Not into football, it didn't register in our family or in our neighbourhood. Cassius Clay was our thing. But there are certain moments or people that end up burnt into the culture and 1966 is one of them and so is Bobby Charlton. It’s crazy how time flies, 1966 it doesn’t sound that long ago but these guys are/were all well in their 80s…
And George was so good looking, he had the Irish gift of the gab and all that charm, the fancy Miss World girlfriends. Plus that awesome quote from the waiter guy. Or whatever he was. Point is, George's life was like a film.Purely in terms of statistics Charlton is our greatest ever player. I remember the passing of George Best got a lot more media attention here but he was quite the figure and a true entertainer on the field. They’re always more celebrated.
OK, but you might wanna keep quiet about that until people have had time to recover a little bit from the Bobby Charlton news. This is going to run and run.My pick for the king is Eric Cantona
